As a Liverpool supporter, Schmeichel is one of the few United players i have utmost respsect for. An absolute legend of a goalkeeper. I can't say whether he's the best there has ever been, but he's the best goalkeeper i've personally ever seen.

You're in a dream land if you think that. Peter Schmeichel clearly had the best mind of a goal keeper. He challenged attackers and he commanded his deffence better than any modern day goal keeper. Buffon is a great keeper. Schmeichel has a more competitive edge to Buffon. That's just my point of view clearly, and people do have their own opinion on things.

Both goalies are awesome but there are a few differences between the 2 that make Schmeichel come out on top imo.

1) Buffon is boss in the 6-yard box while Schmeichel ruled the 18-yard box.

2) Schmeichel had much more offensive values. He could launch a succesful counter attack with one incredibly accurate throw out.

3) Schmeichel had more charisma, or presence, or whatever you want to call it.
