Why didn't the reporter ask the young man who claimed that "saggy pants" has its origins in slavery if the young man desires to return to the days of slavery. I doubt that the young man's ancestors - if they were slaves, would be excited about his choice to wear saggy pants in public as a celebrated fashion statement.
The most logical explanation to this fashion statement's origin is people have to remove their belts when being booked in jail, and their jeans end up saggy. So either through not getting their belt back, or because they wanted to look more "gangster", as if going to jail was an honor, people in poorer neighborhoods started wearing their jeans like that.
Then the fashion has trickled out as richer people who don't understand the origins wear it like that cause they see it on TV and in pictures.
