Hey i am thinking about getting an accordion but Im not sure what kind to get. What would you think would be good for Germanic/Scandinavian Folk styled music or doesn't it matter?
Depends on the button accordion, the kind I have is Chromatic so it makes the same note on each key when you push and pull, it was very easy to pick up. A Diatonic however works differently and would probably take more time.
Thank you! It is and it isn't, hard to explain. I'm using really easy music right now on it until I get used to it more but so far its been fairly easy to learn.
Just stared playing a button box. Since its chromatic it works like a piano one in that the white keys are naturals and black are sharp/flat and it makes the same noise on the push and pull. Its pretty fun to mess with, playing some songs seem a lil easier on it but I haven't tried anything superhard yet.
wow cool accordion! you play it very well for only have it one day! i am still struggling to learn songs on a piano accordion i couldn't imagine using a button accordion. congrats on your new accordion! :)
Thank you! Having played the piano accordion really helped with figuring this one, I used a chart off a wikipedia to figure out where A was and then learned buttons around that on the right hand.
I still could never play a button accordion! I'm so used to my piano accordion! Who can tune accordions these days? I only know of a few people. It's a very tedious task!
are you hinting that its outta tune? because it is. surprising when I did a search I found out theres alot of people south of me that tune accordions.
Well, if you ever want to get it tuned, there is a fellow in Marietta, GA who tunes and builds his own accordions. He was from LA before Katrina. If I were you, I'd not get it tuned to 440, but give it some tasteful dissonance. :-)
Theres alot of people in the Dallas area that tune these. I check on craigslist and found a few business. Guilletti is in Houston and they probably would as well. I probably won't get it tuned anytime soon, using it more for learning on to play one, I'll probably get a nicer one if I really want a better sound.

K, got that down, what about right hand fingering? Is that just a make up your own or is there any guidelines I need to follow?
