I hired a fellow in Delhi to drive me up to Manali back in 1979 and can still remember these sights. When we got close to Manali a flight of three Indian MiG 17s flew past us in a valley about 1/4 mile away. A spectacular sight, especially for an American who had never seen MiG aircraft before exept in movies. Back then Manali was just a small village, not a ski destination. Accomodations along the way were at power company "guest houses". Great trip.
