@088Cole : You got it! I've cut down on my trapping these days. But, if ever I happen to end up with a Pine Marten, I try to make the most of the event by showing local people ~ children especially. For the kids, I figure the enduring memory will simply be that 'The Man' explained they were harmless enough creatures. And let it go.
Please dont kill minks either. They are voracious predators but trapping them might make you one of them in the next life - and you dont want to end up being skinned.
Most of it is bull, i lamped 1 at least 3 miles from a forest and n the same vicinty 2 got caught n fox snares a 1 n a fenn trap all within 12 months.. I even c them dead on the roads up our way. The best i c'n so far was 1 dead outside the sligo park hotel n sligo town and there anit no forestry round there!!!
Pine Martens are awesome! They are protected here, but I had the chance to see one live trapped and they are beautiful!

I'd suggest a domestic Ferret might be more suited to that purpose, MrOnionRing ;-)

Lots of pine martins in sligo 2!! Have even lamped them far away from forestries!!
malone087 3 years ago
Exactly, Malone! Isn't all the book stuff about their living exclusively in pine trees a load of bull? I find they'll run where ever a mink will.
And there's loads in Roscommon to ;-) Doing alright for themselves.
