@DaOrigTruthSeeker Mariah didn't sing live very smooth in her earlier stage because she had a stage fright, i don't know if she still has it, i've noticed in some live performances (1992 - 1993) she had to pause because her chords got tired from trembling (your muscle trembles when you're frightened). I get that a lot when singing in public, especially singing in front of people who're expecting so much from you, it's totally different singing alone or with people you know.

In recent times, Mariah's mid-range is damaged from excessive usage and depression as she said she couldn't hit high notes if she had sleep deprivation or depression (her head voice is still clear and strong as always. However, some rest will give the power back to her voice, Mariah's chords are naturally vulnerable, the only thing can ravage Whitney's voice is drug.

Hmm Whitney sang this song. She really gave it to the lord. Since folks bring up Mariah on a Whitney vid I have a suggestion. It would've been awesome if her and Mariah did this song together. Whit would deliver the emotion and power while Mariah would deliver the flow and the ornaments. They would def do this song justice together. The only edge whit has over mariah live is emotion.
I saw both Whitney and Mariah live...and i must be honest because i love them both....but WH was far better live then Mariah. She was just able to do more things with her voice and she was more in control. Like i said they are both outstanding vocalist.....but back in the day Ms. Houston had a slight edge over Mariah live. Mariah was an outstanding studio singer...but live she had a couple areas that needed improvement.

This is what you call pure singing....there is nothing fake about it. This woman's voice is indeed a rarity and only a jealous or hateful person would deny it. She was vocally what we call a "Stone Singer" vocally she was balanced in all areas of the human voice. Notice she does not use a lot of vocal gymnastics which is in most singers a way of compensating for vocal weakness. WH was the real McCoy !

Best singer ever. Beats Mariah, and Aretha even, by miles. Mariah's voice is much weaker than this and she relies on the same tired ol' runs (melisma) over and over. That's all Mariah does. Aretha had a distinctive voice at her peak in the mid- to late 60s, but her range was limited. By the 80s, her voice was way past its peak and it still is. But Whitney was a singer's singer in her prime. The tone, the control, the perfect vibrato, all of it unsurpassed.

Whitney's live performances for the first 10 years of her career this being one always surpass her studio recordings.
@MrButler124 and we all know Whitney toured heavily and all of her early albums all the way up to My Love Is Your Love. Mariah never did that hell Mariah first major tour was Daydream 96 6 years after her first recording I mean she did have a miny tour in 93 after Music Box was released but that's it everything else live was tv appearances with only 1-2 maybe 3 live performances I still can't remember or have I found one that equals this I can think of two that come close but that's it.
@lsaturn01 Mariah might have not toured as much(btw all her 90s performances were live, she started lipping in 98), but her tours(DD was not the only major one she did), her songs are vocally very difficult, they require much more from her. And I meant that Mariah's control, tone, support, stamina, power(mariah surpasses whit in the upper belts), etc are equal to whit if not better in some aspects. But I don't like comparing them, they're both 2 of the greatest singers we have.
@MrButler124 ALL Whitney fans secretly know that Mariah is superior to Whitney. That is why they're so intimidated by Mariah and her greatness. Whitney's voice has a powerful component to it which can't be copied, but, technically, her songs are not very difficult. Mariah's songs, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to sing. Like you said, MC surpasses Whitney in all those areas and then some. But these Whitney fans are too delusional to admit that. I don't care what Oprah called Whitney.

On a musical level Mariah is a better musician(But Whit ain't no slouch either), but on a technical aspect Mariah and Whitney are evenly matched. the only thing Vocally that MC would have on Whit is her range and versitiliy and textures, but at the end of the day both of these women are friends and respect each others gift. Plus Had they been in their prime & did a singing battle, it'd be a stalemate.

I agree with you though you saw even in 1999 when Whitney and Mariah sang When You Believe at the Oscars her voice was way more powerful and she had way more control vocally then Mariah which is sad because we know Whitney by her own admission was messing with drugs.

If that had been Whitney 28 vs Mariah 28, Mariah would not have been heard that is unless Whitney wanted her too which is exactly what happen on that performance and Whitney was 35 or 36 at the time and lets face her voice started showing effects of drug use, heavy touring and of course her cigarette smoking habit. That is why I love the women to this day she can blow most female singers.

This is what you call pure singing....there is nothing fake about it. This woman's voice is indeed a rarity and only a jealous or hateful person would deny it. She was vocally what we call a "Stone Singer" vocally she was balanced in all areas of the human voice. Notice she does not use a lot of vocal gymnastics which is in most singers a way of compensating for vocal weakness. WH was the real McCoy !

Best singer ever. Beats Mariah, and Aretha even, by miles. Mariah's voice is much weaker than this and she relies on the same tired ol' runs (melisma) over and over. That's all Mariah does. Aretha had a distinctive voice at her peak in the mid- to late 60s, but her range was limited. By the 80s, her voice was way past its peak and it still is. But Whitney was a singer's singer in her prime. The tone, the control, the perfect vibrato, all of it unsurpassed.

Mariah never did that hell Mariah first major tour was Daydream 96 6 years after her first recording I mean she did have a miny tour in 93 after Music Box was released but that's it everything else live was tv appearances with only 1-2 maybe 3 live performances I still can't remember or have I found one that equals this I can think of two that come close but that's it.

And I meant that Mariah's control, tone, support, stamina, power(mariah surpasses whit in the upper belts), etc are equal to whit if not better in some aspects. But I don't like comparing them, they're both 2 of the greatest singers we have.
