  • What a cool arcade game

  • CABALLE

  • This game looks like it is incredibly annoying to play. But that is just my opinion. But I also hated the play style of Sonic 3D Blast too. So I am glad I never got the misfortune of playing this game.

  • Where'd you get the ROM? All of the Segasonic ROMs i got didn't work.

  • Plays good using a wired X360 pad. Set these settings in "Input (this game)" in MAME menu: Track X Analog: Joy 1 X Axis Track X Dec: Joy 1 Left Track X Inc: Joy 1 Right Track Y Analog: Joy 1 Y Axis Track Y Dec: Joy 1 Up Track Y Inc: Joy 1 Down In Analog controls on MAME menu: Track X Digital Speed: 20 Track X Reverse: On Track X Sensitivity: 20 Track Y Digital Speed: 20 Track Y Reverse: off Track Y Sensitivity: 20
  • is that so? I guess that would work with any pad with analogue sticks?

  • probably would, tho not got another pad to try it with. When I originally tried the 360 pad it was unplayable, but then I messed about the mame controller settings and slowly but surely it became perfectly playable with the settings above - just like controlling Sonic in Sonic 3D Blast.

The control is accurate enough to the point that if I move the stick a little he will walk, then tilt it a bit more and he'll jog, then a bit more and he'll sprint.

  • Though I never played this game in the arcade with a trackball, so I don't know how the joypad control compares...It is perfectly playable though

  • I definitely played this in an airport arcade in the US. Drove myself crazy trying to find it anywhere else, but ultimately failed.

  • You can find this game all over the place in the U.S. Practically every arcade his it.

LOL just kidding. This is probably the rarest and most obscure out of all the Sonic games.

  • Fun Fact: This is the first Sonic the Hedgehog where Sonic talked.

  • This had a trackball sadly it couldnt make it to sonic gems

  • thanks for trying to be helpful but try reading the description next time x.x

  • i dont get, how hard would it of been to re program it to a gamcube controller!

  • because game cube controllers arn't pressure sensative, well not like analogue sticks anyway =P

  • how did you do to asign a speed value on the direction keys? with the joystick i could hardly go left or right and for some reason the arrow keys in the keyboard wouldn't work...

  • I know this is pretty late but, I found a way,

If you using a laptop, it might have a blue thing in the middle, I use it and saved my life!

  • why this was never on the mega drive (with a traack ball) IS beyond me

  • They outta remake this for DS or something.

  • this game should have went to the genisis

  • People don't get one thing about arcade games. They were made to look friggin awesome, to feel really good, and to be a big challange, to loose coins. Thats what a gamer can ever dream about. Remember your days, when walking near a cabinet and omfg how cool this is, effect hit your head. While console games are just made to play a little on your tv while your parents are out of the house.

  • shinkosai how come on the second level u can get pass it on mame32. When I play it on part of the second level it crashes. If your not using mame 32 what are you using

  • I'm 100% sure this was run in mame I'm just unsure of the version (bear in mind this video is 2 years old now) but it's not the most up to date version, because after further testing with a more up to date version I was able to get the full game from the same rom file x.x weird huh?

  • Sega ticked me off with this one when they said it was coming for 32X and it never showed up.

  • if this game is an emulator can u send it plz i really want to play this game

  • Looks a hundred times more fun that Sonic 3D Blast. Doesn't hurt that there was a trackball instead of trying to used the d-pad with an isometric view.

The only thing I don't get it the lava, grinding gears and such. Will they ever actually catch up and hurt you, or do they just make it feel more urgent?

  • I can confirm they do hurt, but only a little of my time was played in the arcade however so I only got a little of the effect of using a trackball.

Having to roll the track ball like crazy on the running parts is both weird for the person playing since doing an emergency stop is much harder than it ever would be with a joypad, but at the same time to people watching you play you probably look silly XD. This video isn't the best example though there are plenty of others on youtube =)

  • My cousin had it before

Nobody can play as Mighty because there weren't any controls for P3

  • Go to service and change the cabinet type to P3. Also, Hit left or right on the character select screen to change character.

Of course, if the cabinet only has two controllers...

  • the recorded sound for the desert zone is probabally the most annoying out of them all. but i got a sumthin to say for the maker of the demo: drugs are bad.

  • Tell me about it I played this before I got the full game emulated, so my first reaction was pretty much wtf

  • I love the ending. so epic.

  • 3:53 Nice trick eggman XD

  • Can you play through it as Ray and Mighty?

  • i could but someone else has videos already uploaded of it so there wouldn't be much point unless I was trying to be faster then him XP

  • yes

  • could somone send me a link to the emulator and the rom to this game?

  • It sounds like they got one of the programmers hopped up on cocaine, recorded his insane yammering, and used it as the sound effects for the game.

  • lol that's a beta for ya much lolz

  • I want to play this game so badly!~

    It does look fun. ^w^

  • i thing the sound it his the voice of eggman

  • yeah I found that out later too only it sounds higher pitch

  • something makes me think the sound was bugged to hell in this game.

  • well that would be why this is the beta demo =P

  • any beta or demo will not have glaring defects like this. I'd rather think it's just not properly emulated.

  • whats with the sound?

  • the game aslo has mightuy and ray mighty is a Armadillo and ray is a Flying Squirrel look for the game on wiki

  • It really reminds me of Sonic and the Secret Rings. I'm surprised no one's mentioned that yet.

  • eh? I fail to see the connection beyond being both games with sonic in it and this games from the early 90s mate XD

  • do you even know how to play this. using the mouse is almost impossible cuz he keeps turning around, and i dont think you can use the keyboard. can you tell me how to control this on mame. PLEASE???

  • it's tricky because it's on a trackball you either need to get a trackball or set a value for each x and y direction (I forget exactly because did it long time ago now) I had to increase the speed value since they would only walk then set the directions on the keyboard how you normally would, here's no true replacement to the trackball though you either walk everywhere which is too slow or move too fast like I did which makes it harder to control

  • how do i get a TB for the PC

  • seeing this now, it looks alnost like a pre cursor to sonic 3d blast

  • It pretty much was ya, it's just s shame that apart from the bosses this was better then 3D blast at least imo

  • 2:32 - "where's the crack, huh? where's the crack? you promised me crack...I want mah muthafuppn' crack!" >>tremble, tremble

he sounds mad weird, but that's a damn good emulation right there. too bad u had to use cursor keys to make sonic move. real nice video, i should get it soon

  • wow now I know what its like. I wish sega put this game on gems collection. can you please tell me where you found this game because the version I have dosent work. Thanks for posting this

  • Man this game looks a bit hard to control sonic, and i noticed that there was two push start keys was this a 3 player?

  • yep although 3 player on this is pretty rare most emulators don't really support it and you'd have to be nuts to play it in the arcade if you think you're going to win with only a little money because of how much you need to keep your wits about you. I know this from personal experience as soon as I started playing you were running from boulders and running accross breaking bridges and crap @_@

  • Ya i noticed that =P

  • yeah right

  • It looks rubbish.

  • Well you gotta bare in mind 3 things with this game

    1. It's designed for the arcades using the trackball so it's not exactly on par with something like sonic 3D blast

    2. This game is OLD now! It's older then sonic 3 and possibly sonic 2 I'm not entirely sure, all I do know is this is the first time they tried 3D in a sonic game.

    3. This is only a demo work in progress version, if you want to see more what the final game looks like check out some of betaman123's videos

  • Huh, what's happened to the sound and Robotnik's voice?

  • who knows being a demo/early version of the game they may have not been added when this was originally made ^^;

  • You are probably using an older mame version?
