Man you english speaking hypocrites. How about you spell names the way they're supposed to be pronounced? Just off the top off my head Greene (silent e), Heatley (ley is pronounced lee in this), Kane (same story as the first one). Just because those are easy to you doesn't mean mean they're easy to everyone else. So write them the way it should be pronounced then.Languages are built differently and in most of them having an E at the end of the word doesn't change the whole word (like Kane).

If the russain hockey players cared so much about they're last names being pronounced correctly, they'd put their russain name on the back, and ask people to call them by it. Alexander Ovichkin has pronounced his name russian, but he's never said to anybody "Hey, thats not how you say it"

Because they must translate it as if it was russian.

Russians do write the IOF as being IOV, but they sometimes do not use the little points over the Ё and it may be read being E.

There's a point where Russians are lazy and themselves "forget" to write it correctly.

His name is Ковалёв, but you can get lazy and write it Ковалeв. Same for Semin.

I JUST had to explain why people pronounce Ovechkin wrong and now i might as well do it for Kovalev. Its awfully simple in fact. whenever a foreign name is translated into another language the names are usually translated letter for letter. Kovalev in english, ковалев in russian but the pronunciation doesnt tranfer therefore its pronounced Kovalev in english instead of Kovaliev. Following your logic, we should pronounce the name according to english pronounciation since NHL is "supposedly" an english league (I'm not even sure english is the native language of 50% of the players). It simply does not make sense. We should pronounce according to how the name is pronounced in the player's language. It just happens that some other languages share the same alphabet as english, but not that the sounds are the same.
