Eu penso que o Michel Legrand deveria ter traduzido a ela a conversa que ocorria em francês, porque, ela ficou perdida e mostrou isso em sua face. Mas, como maravilhosa que é, deu conta do recado.
She seemed to encourage it instead of fight it. I don't think she was upset at all. Streisand always makes her displeasure very clear. There was none of that here.
She did what she had to do, but she should have been prepared to sing something...anything. It could not have been a complete surprise that she, the world's most famous female singer who is promoting her latest movie, a musical, would perhaps be asked to sing a song. Real life cannot be rehearsed. She was too rigid @ this time in her life. I hope she has learned to relax, enjoy the surprises in life and make some mistakes. They can be fun too.
When a performer is going to perform on a live television show it is ALWAYS prepared for and rehearsed beforehand; especially for someone of Barbra's caliber. Everything was being spoken in French and it was completely unfair to put her in a spot like that. I think she did fine and played it off well.
Pourquoi n'a t'elle pas un interprète pour lui traduire ce qui est dis pour qu'elle réagisse, on la sent piégée mais c'est toujours la même chose quand un Anglophone vient en france.... Pourquoi viendraient-ils en france...!!!!
The impromptu, unrehearsed nature of this ambush makes it even more fascinating to watch. Barbras perturb reaction and the miraculous way she musters up those angelic tones are priceless!
you know he didn't even translate one single thing to her. and worse he didn't tell her what key to sing the song in either and he made it way to high. and he needed to shut up during the song he did enough bad things to her he didn't have to sing and make it sound 10 times worse than if she would have sang it by herself even if she forgot the words
What they did was rude. I understand what she means by not knowing the lyrics. If a friend of mine told me to sing the song "If I light just one candle" randomly I wouldn't know the words even though I'd sung it live before, and sung it often. I just think if they wanted her to sing they should have planned it first instead of just laying it on her like that. Or they should have at least let her say no instead of forcing her to.
Omg, this was total bull!!! She shouldn't have sang if she didn't want to, how dare they make her do that right on the spot. Clearly theyre all immature morons who don't understand she's a real human being, not a toy to play with for their own amusement!
Barbra's voice shounds great. But I can't undertand why they didn't do a song from Yentl? The Way He Makes Me Feel, perhaps. Surely they'd know the music and lyrics.
This had happened in italy too but she did not sing, she was never happy with unplanned performances but she obviously expect people to ask her to sing, well she is the greatest singer in the world, I would ask her to sing too!! Never the less she should have been more relax (I guess she is now!!)when performing live, she can surely manage to sing a bloody song...
A professional singer who is afraid to sing without a rehearsal??? Pick a song and sing. It's easy. You just give a little back to people that support you. Try not to be so selfish.
And she whispered in his ear: "Wait 'til I get you backstage; you'll pay for this!" Poor Barbra; she was sweating bullets throughout the whole thing!!! But she was a trouper — good for her!
Thanks for posting, this was great! I'm surprised, though, that with all the experience they both have in show business, it was so difficult to come up with a song. Michel Legrand is usually great but here, he should have just played piano and let her do the singing, that would have worked much better I think. Thanks again for posting!
She and Legrand were put on the spot, but her voice still sounded great. No harm in a bit of spontaneity, we do not get enough of it these days (this would have been unimaginable in the US).
this is normally 'not done' and what i do know ; is that the two men can not even sniff on the heels of barbra and that in such an embarasing situation for her, but you even can hear now that she is the best of the world and the others are losers , greetz
legrand allegedly detests her, and it is obvious he's putting her on the spot here. this entire program is so awkward. between the live format and the language barrier, she is totally at their mercy, and they take full advantage of the situation. she comes out looking incredibly gracious and elegant nonetheless. this is fantastic.
I would be surpised if they do, she has continued to record Legrand songs, and her, Legrand and the Bergmans are a close trio. But I suspect with egos the size of all them there would be problems, but few singers could do the intensity of Legrand's songs the justice Streisand can.
Hi, from Spain!..She seems so uncomfortable with singing live! Listen to her staring at Legrand and saying "I told you". And then he choses a higher key than the original (too high), she realises soon and demands the end right away. Legrand´s harmonies are disturbing... beside all this they are two GENIUS
although it wasn't fair that she sang, she still sounds amazing!

What song was that she was performing in the beginning?

Would have been better if she sang it by herself. His harmony just gets in the way of her amazing voice.

allegedly you just don't know what you talk about. legrands loves barbra and they both remain close friends after all these years working together.

They really created an embarrasing situation for her, totally unrehearsed...not good at all.
..And didn't even translate all their French yapping.

I LOVE Barbra's hair up. I think it was brilliant of her to wear it up at her wedding to Jim.
