You can also draw with CRAYOLA ERASEABLE PENCILS in a matching color to the watercolor pencils that you will be painting with. The eraseable pencils are very forgiving and erase completely.
Fabulous tutorial. I have learnt so much from your videos Bob and have been really enjoying learning how to use my watercolour pencils. Thanks so much!! :-)
@animeguitarfreak Depends how big you want it and the quality of it, generally it's not that much more than normal paper. It's not too expensive though :)
Hi i love your videos they really help! there is one issue though but thats not your fault, i know how to use the watercolours but i tried to draw the mallard but it completely failed and i would like to create a sketchbook of my watercolour drawings for display so i was wondering if you could either point me to a video that can teach me how to draw one of your objects such as the duck or maybe you could make a video on how to draw your mallard like in this video. please help...thanks:)
Thank you for those incredible tutorials. I bought a watercolors and I was having problems with the paper and the pencils, but thanks to you know I know how to work with them :)
Thank you so much. My sister gave me a box of watercolour pencils for my birthday years ago and I only use it to outline my paintings. Now I know the right way of using watercolour pencils and how wonderful they are. Many thanks.
Nice demonstration! Watercolour pencils are also great for going out and doing quick studies on location. I mostly work in my studio, but frequently will go out and so some quick landscape studies to do a final painting from later in my studio. However, bringing a whole set of watercolours also necessitates bringing a big jug of water, half a dozen brushes, a roll of paper towels, etc. With pencils, one only needs a small brush and an ounce or two of water (as you have here). Much easier!
Wow! I got some watercolor pencils (may have more in an artist's kit I haven't thoroughly explored)... now I'm really pumped! This seems so much cleaner than using regular watercolors... the difference in approach is very convincing... especially when one doesn't really have a studio area to work in. Amazed at what you can do with this approach. This is probably my gateway into serious painting!

HOLY SHIT!!! I NEED TO BUY SOME WATERCOLOR PENCILS!!! :D IT WOULD MAKE MY ANIME DRAWING LOOK EPIC! CAUSE THE DUAL LIKE COLOR PENCILS ARE NOTHING TO THESE WATERCOLOR PENCILS!!! :D WHERE CAN YOU FIND THEM AND HOW MUCH DO THEY COST?! :D
What type of paper are you using? I have to start on my own piece soon due in about a month and you seem to know your water colors so thanks for the advice :)
give derwent a try. I've been using the same set for 10 years. my folks bought me a 72 set when i was 10 and in the past 5 years ive been using them extensivly and they are still going strong. derwents have a stronger case to the pencil which helps if u drop the pencil the colour inside will not break. their colours are also more vibrant. they blend very well. and i strongly recomend derwent to anyone interested in water colours
Thanks very much for this. Accidentally I've bought a set of watercolour pencils and I didn't know they give such nice effects to a painting Time to put my watercolour pencils to use :)
This is fate!!! Just I have to draw ducks because my sister has to speak about "The ugly duckling" and she ask me to draw for her =D, your video will be very useful to me =D
I love your teaching style especially the sound of your voice. Your lessons build up by technique from start to finish so at the end I feel I can do this too. I just need to buy paper and some water soluble pencils. Thank you so much for posting these videos.
I literally sat down with this video, a piece of paper and a soluble pencil and created something I thought I'd never be able to do. - I only used a black pencil, because I don't have any colours on hand and the effect, whilst not realistic - looks quite nice. I'll have to get some colours in future! Thanks for the video!
I've just joined your website and am looking forward to going back to painting, something I haven't really done for the past 25 years. Many, MANY thanks for your easily understood tutorials.
Not sure if you have a "painting fabrics" video on the website but I'd like to learn how to do that. Thanks.
Thank you Bob, I could watch you create all day long, I never knew you could color with a watercolor pencil then add water.. You inspire me.. Best Wishes, John
