  • I'm very green re Subaltern studies - I'm constantly coming across the word 'Subject' for instance in the phrase 'Subject formation exceeds the borders of the intending Subect'. What is meant exactly by the word subject? Very basically I understand it to be an ideological group/political entity that can influence/be influenced? I'd really really appreciate help on this.

  • Please watch my video Husserl's Phenomenology In His Own Words -- "Rey Ty", as it might give you an answer.

  • We share the common concern for human liberation. Anytime I can help an ally, I do what I can.

    peace.

  • brotherwise, yeah, we share the same concern for human liberation. please let me know which authors/publications/concepts i must include. my actual presentation will be in sept. 17, 2009. so i still have time to add important works i have missed in this draft. thanks.

  • Reyty,

Isaac Julien made a film in 1995 called Frantz Fanon, Black Skin, White Mask. The actor he used to play FANON is Colin Salmon. That's the image you use at 2:47.

The BIO's are = David Macey, Frantz Fanon: A Biography, (New York, Picador USA, 2000) and Alice Cherki, Frantz Fanon: A Portrait, (Ithaca, Cornell Univ. Press, 2000, 2006).

  • Brotherwise: Thanks so much for the information about the film & the 2 books. You are most helpful. Best wishes to you.

  • I love your youtube lecture series by the way, I find them extremely useful as thorough introductions to critical theory(in the more general sense) and philosophy.

  • Thanks, brotherwise. I have some videos specifically on critical theory (aside from critical theory in the more general sense). Yeah, I'm glad we share the same passion for philosophy.

  • I have no problem with Said's image, he is an outstanding intellectual and indeed did initiate postcolonial discourse. However, at 2:47, the image you use while having the name FRANTZ FANON emblazoned at the top is not one of FRANTZ FANON, but of an an actor. There are plenty of actual images of FANON available for your use, so I wondered why use the actor who starred in a recent dramatization about FANON. Also, FANON's mother was not French but a mulatto(Macey's Bio p.48)(Cherki's Bio p.6).

  • Thanks so much, brotherwise, for the information. It's good my lecture will still be in September 2009. I still have time to change the photo and cross-check some data. You are most helpful, brotherwise. Cheers!

  • Hello, brotherwise: Could you please give me the name of the movie about Fanon? I did not know they made one. I will try to find the movie. Also, could you most kindly give me the complete reference information for Macey & Cherki so that I can read them too, please? Thanks!

  • Brotherwise: Is "mulatto" an acceptable word? Is it "politically correct"? I want to be careful & sensitive. Waiting for your reply. Thanks.

  • Instead of "mulatto", could you please give me the precise heritage: for example, half-French and half-something else? I appreciate your help. "Mulatto" seems to be a pejorative term. I may be wrong. I just don't want to use derogatory words.

  • I found a movie with Don Cheadle as Frantz Fanon. But the photo I used was not Don Cheadle. I would appreciate you giving me the details about the movie you had in mind. In that way, I will be able to find & view it. Thanks, brotherwise.

  • rey ty, why don't you use an actual photo of FANON, instead of the actor you used?

  • Hello, brotherwise: Thanks for your comment. In the slide titled "Fanon", I have the actual photo of Frantz Fanon himself. Please go to 7:12-7:13 & you will see Fanon himself on the "Fanon" slide. I did not use actors: they are postcolonial & poststructuralist & existentialist philosophers: Said, Foucault Chomsky, Derrida, MEmmi, Nkrumah, Horta, etc. Lots of Edward Said photos because, among other authors, he is credited as having starting the postcolonial discourse. Thanks, Brotherwise!

  • Dear reyty2,

thank you for your tipps. There was no person, that had contacted me. I just mean the similar video list on the right. I don't know, how the get their definitions on similarity for this automatic tool.

    Much regards,

    Yours Tinúviel

  • Hello, Tinúvie,

Thanks for your clarification. Warm wishes to you.

    Rey

  • Youtube has decided, you and me - we would made "similar" videios. I suggest my video on Zergeisterung has a somehow different theme, perhaps it is a special story in the Orientalist's mindmap. Perhaps a mirror in a mirror.

I like your video, but sorry: your texts are too fast. Your topic is important. Good Luck...

  • Thank you for your comment. You can always click PAUSE to stop the video temporarily. Cheers.

  • Did Youtube contact you? Who specifically at Youtube "has decided" that "we would" make or have "made 'similar' videos"? Waiting for your clarification.

You can always click the stop button to pause the video temporarily.

    Thanks!
