  • Still in my top 10 of all time 15 years later. Super original, great soundtrack.

  • A magical time. Watching new episodes of Step by Step and Home Improvement while playing 7th Guest.

  • this company was based in Jacksonville, OR? So weird! My family is from Ashland, I've been through there a few times...

  • ah never saw this making of . . . really cool to see it anyway. about 17 years later :))

  • I remember as I kid I watched this VHS over and over again, spesialy since my computer had problems with starting the game.

The 7th Guest was like Crysis back then....it was a magical time.

  • Is it me, or does the actor at 7:30 almost look like Edward Carnby from the more recent Alone in the Dark games? Mostly on the close up.

Well, aside from that, thank you for uploading this. Nice to see more videos like this. To learn how the process went through and what they did for their work.

It's surprising that more people don't try making a game like this. The programs and hardware are accessible now and so many Youtube vloggers use greenscreen like it's nothing.

  • “The most difficult part was staying on our mark queuing actors on the imagined furnishings. We had a difficult time not walking through things all of the time.”

What helped in this area was that all of the characters were ghosts in the Stauf Mansion! lol. EXCELLENT GAME. :D

  • 1,000 frames at 40 minutes per frame, divided by 60 minutes means the foyer could be rendered in about 666 hours!

That is a hellish length of time..

  • This is quite interesting.

  • Thanks for posting!

  • scummvm runs it well

  • Or just torrent the ISO files and run it with Daemon Tools, so simple and easy to do, and plays fine.

  • "a stauf toy is a toy for life" people said.

Unfortunately that does'nt go for the game itself.

It won't run shit on any of todays computers, no matter what emulator you use.

That's a shame. It really needs a remake or a re programming or something.

  • @UHOHYESYEAH You can get it to run with the T7G Windows player. Just Google "The 7th Guest Windows XP" and you'll find it in the first few hits. It has a few quirks, but works fine. Not sure if the same thing works for Vista/Win7. In that case, set up a DOS virtual machine using MS Virtual PC. VPC emulates a VESA compatible video card (S3 Trio) so you can use the VESA driver on CD2 of T7G if necessary.

  • @aaroncake uh, not to mention that scummvm plays it now just fine..

  • @aaroncake It worked fine for me with the XP Patch and running it on DOSbox. Absolutely recommend it, of course.

Mind the hate for modern technology. This game was the killer app for the CD-ROM in the first place. Sales for the hardware fucking tripled!

  • @UHOHYESYEAH

Just run it through the ScummVM interpreter. It's easy to use and completely free to download. You'll even be able to run it on other devices like a PDA or smartphone. Also there is no need to install the game ScummVM only needs to know where the files are.

You could also use Dosbox, which worked for me before ScummVM supported the game, but it's a hassle to set this up.

Or you could look for the Windows 95 version which should run using compatibility mode.

  • @UHOHYESYEAH its runs perfect on via scummvm

  • @UHOHYESYEAH it is soon being re-released on the iPhone!

  • @vnano Wait...T7G is going to be released on the iPhone?! I might actually buy an iPhone just to play that. But I guess if it runs on the iPhone it will also run on the iPod Touch and iPad, so maybe I'll just get one of those devices instead of a useless phone. Either way, that's damn impressive. I hope they release it for all major mobile platforms, especially Blackberry.

  • @aaroncake Since the iPhone is the best mobile phone in the world right now I fail see why you shouldnt get one?

  • @vnano The iPhone isn't the best phone for me. I hate using them and much prefer Blackberry, which does everything I need (except perhaps play T7G it seems).

  • @aaroncake Okay. What is a Blackberry though?

  • @vnano Really? Just Google "Blackberry" as YouTube won't let me post links.

  • @aaroncake Ah, I see. Hm. "Havent been popular in EU though"... That's why I havent heard about it. But ... what is it's competitive advantage?

  • @vnano Blackberry is a device designed for the corporate user. It basically defined mobile email and invented the market segment. It is based upon security, reliability and managability. Comapnies run Blackberry Enterprise Server to give complete access to Exchange and the company intranet, as well as manage the Blackberrys with softare policies. Consumers use Blackberry Internet Service to access their mailbox and sync with things like Google Calendar. Best to check out the Blackberry website.

  • @aaroncake Alrighty. Sounds good. Thanks for the info.

  • I still have this game! was the best ever... much better than lots of today's junk that people calls survival horror!!

  • i have the VHS that came with the game. A+ Great gaeme.

  • I am going to use this video to inspire my game.

  • ya the chapel floor doesn tmake any sense i figured it out with shear luck, random clicking mostly. the micrscope DONT get me stared.

  • very nice ! except devine´s hair lol

  • Thanks for the upload! I really enjoyed playing through this game many years ago.

  • But just to note, I saw a recent photo of him and he looks much better.

  • This game was simply amazing. I will always remember this as one of the greatest.

  • You can find the soundtrack album--it's named "7-11" and listed as being by The Fat Man and Team Fat

  • My god, The Fat Man himself! It is honestly an honour to have you comment on one of my video postings. The 7th Guest is one of the few games I have really enjoyed in my lifetime. To this day, I still listen to the "hidden" sound track on disk 2 when I need good background music. I've noticed that there are a lot more tracks on the actual album, so I'll definitly be buying it. It's great to hear from you and drop in anytime!

  • The Pleasure Is Mine. Keep Rockin and rollin' those 7's and 11's. :)

  • hey does anybody know who now owns the rights to the 7th guest?

  • @A31Chris

trilobyte still owns it, and they said that they are going to finish 7th guest 3.

  • Really? I tried to look up Trilobyte a few years ago and the info I got said it was a defunct company.

  • there is a fan group making a sequel though.

  • But their website has not shown any updates since 2008. It's safe to say the project has stalled.

  • Wonder if they are still based in Oregon.

  • ok wiki says trilobyte is defunct. 7th guest III defunct:

The 7th Guest III — a highly rendered and media-rich game where the house would be back to its original form and all forms of media were to be controlled by Satan. US$500,000 went into production. Only a few highly rendered screen shots were created before Landeros canceled the project.

  • Yep, The Collector will never be produced. But fans of the game have started to make their own sequel, The 13th Doll. However there doesn't seem to be any updates to the project since 2008 and all that it produced were a few video sequences, some music and some nice screen shots.

  • @aaroncake @TheMightyFatMan Holy Smokes! Thanks for this information. I loved playing the 7th guest. One of my favorite games as a child. The music really made it what it was. I have Best Buy Rhapsody (streaming internet music) I searched for The Fat Man and Team Fat and I have access to the 7/11 soundtrack! This is awesome!

  • I actually completed this game.

Coming from me.. that's quite amazing. I never even finished Super Mario any version, or Tiny Toons Buster's Hidden Treasure for Sega Genesis.

7th Guest was the frikkin best game and.. I LOVED ALL THE MUSIC. Good on ya! xooxox

  • Man. I thought the dude was a lady at first.

  • 7th Guest is classic. I was around 11 years old when I first saw it in the store on display. Craziness. My buddy and I took like 10 months to figure out the Chess puzzle... after that we were screwed.

  • The only puzzles I have not been able to solve in all of these years are the Chapel floor puzzle and the microscope "Infection" game. The Chapel puzzle makes no sense to me and the damn microscope is just too hard. This time though I have refused to look at the book in the library and am determined to beat the microscope. The floor I finally figured out through random chance but I still don't get it.

  • myst still was kick ass but this game was also great !

  • The funny thing is that I could never play Myst for more then 10 minutes. The gameplay was boring, and combined with the lack of technical sophistication really made it pointless to me. T7G was just so engrossing compared to the static landscape and poor atmosphere of Myst.

  • agreed

  • I had this on VHS when the game first came out. I think it was a promotional or something.

amazing they made this game on a bunch of 386's.

  • awesome!
