  • Cool Hand Luke

  • great song to jam the devil stixx to!

  • It's nice to see a band that has everything about them, their sound, their look, their style, that makes you know they are really doing it for the music and not the money or fame.

  • i have been searching for this song forever..so happy i finally found it!! it's beautiful.

  • lead singer looks like billy riggins from FNL

  • I absolutely love Dawes.

try listening to Frightened Rabbit- "Living in Color" theyre pretty good too

  • Oh, and it's nice to see people younger than me (31) in this band being into the Laurel Canyon sound and the singer/songwriter rock (Petty,Young,CSN,Browne,et al) of that era. Then again, I've lived in SoCal my whole life so I'm a sucker for that sound. LOL

  • I'm not into Gaga but I'm not repulsed if someone likes other good music like this. I'm more concerned about those who listen to just top 40/mtv/whatever Ryan Seacrest likes than those who have a "few bad apples" in a decent eclectic collection. I love old school metal but when I'm tired, that music ain't gonna cut it for me compared to (guilty pleasure alert!) Billy Joel. It's not the genre but the sound and mood that matters to me. This is why MCIS and White Album are awesome.

  • That sweeeeeet, sweeeeet Laurel Canyon sound

  • The kid is so cute.

  • I've seen them live, they're ok.

  • American Pickers commercial

  • This is one of the best songs I've heard in a few years.

  • AWESOME BAND--Would love to see them Live. When are you coming to the East Coast?

Another great song is "A Little Bit of Everything"--watch?v=yqhRK_g7WJc

This band will EXPLODE soon enough. It took Zac Brown Band 10+ years to EXPLODE. 4-years ago, they were still playing clubs, now they're selling out Red Rocks and Full Arenas, and last were voted for 14-Awards and had an record 9-songs #1 on the Top 10 Chart at some point Last year. I see the same Success for this Band.

  • SUCH A GOOD FUCKING SONG. Gets me every time.

  • He def looks like The lead singer from Chevelle!!!!

  • The first time I heard this..I kinda thaught it might be KOL but...obviousley not.......Great song!!!!!!

  • @nobliss1 When are they playing in MN?

  • @thisiswater314 They just did. Two shows at the Varsity Theatre. Dec 30th and 31st. They absolutely rocked. These guys are the real deal.

  • really good band. sounds similar to modest mouse i think and someone else... cant quite put my finger who though. the acoustic "if i wanted someone" is also really good. so go and listen to it people!

  • Won tickets to see them in Minneapolis.... happy!

  • What??!! People can dislike this sonnng?.... LIESSSS.

    I loveee this songgggg.

My replay button is probably tired of me pressing it lol. (:

  • WEAK

  • Love the Laurel Canyon sound. . . love joni mitchell

  • This songs deserves a few more zeros behind the number of views

  • The Dawes is not a band. The Dawes is pure light and energy. That Laurel Canyon Sound will lead us past our material desires.

  • What great sounding harmony.........the chorus alone is brilliant.

  • One step away from being something right. Follow up...make it something believable...don't isolate the brilliance...let it flow.

  • Great song - right up there with "Time Spent In L.A."

  • nothing more soothing than that Laurel Canyon Sound

  • Thank you History Channel for showing me an amazing song.

  • why dosnt anyone listen to this i wanna punch my friends on the face when they put "nigga" shit on its a damn shame that my generations minds have been trashed by garbage music i honestly cant see what there live are gonna be, i mean the way people act and dress due to the garbage really makes me lose hope in humanity god save us all

  • I love how almost every youtube video has a pointless argument. Just ENJOY the fucking music.

  • @thursday251 Someone else feels the same way. Thank you.

  • these be at Coacella 2012

  • My first time hearing about this band. My reaction: Blown away. I just heard a clip of them live and cant believe how underrated they seem to be. *thumbs up*

  • @younglegend4life One of the best live bands I've ever seen. They put on one amazing show. If you get a chance, you need to go see them.

  • You might like this too if you're a Dawes fan:

  • Every generation is the same. We as a whole have not changed for years. There are the mature people and the ignorant ones. Let the "ignorants" enjoy their happy times and years; knowledge does not equal happiness.

  • maybe, just maybe if the youth would get on the same page and not spend so much energy identifying themselves by how they are better or worse than the other youth life would be sweet like honey. blitzen trapper!

  • Okay. So I had to get my husband to explain the Cool Hand Luke inference to me ("That's okay, dear--you're a girl. You're not expected to understand"). But to my credit, I did get the line that referenced Nietzsche.

    My new favorite song.

  • Anyone seen Greg Holden and Lelia Broussard's cover of this? Simply amazing :)

  • Holy crap! That's cool hand luke! xD i'm watching it in english right now!

  • This is the coolest video I've seen this year. And Dawes - the are like a punk folk band. Pure enough to listen to without any guilt. Thanks guys - but now I gotta make a run for it.

  • cool hand luke for the win

  • EVERY generation has shitty-teenage music. So many adults have such short-term memories. Just because YOU listened to the Chilli Peppers when you were a teenager in 1987 didn't mean that a million other kids weren't listening to New Kids on the Block. Ever heard of the Partridge Family? Don't blast kids today because Bieber is huge...hell...it's the ADULTS of today that created him, market, book his tours, and slurp up his money.

  • The vocals on this song sound like they're from a Negro spiritual.

  • Give it up for Little Orphan Annie on the drums!

  • I love the fact that this song resonates with all ages, I think it is brilliant. I am just over 50, and I respect that fact that different types of music move people different ways. Not everyone will agree with this, but for me if you can play the song on a synthesizer alone it is not for me. Just one man's opinion.

  • anyone else notice that the video is a tribute to cool hand luke?

  • @swervewithout Yep :-)

  • @swervewithout I was gonna say something about that until I saw your comment. "Call'n it your job don't make it right...Boss."

  • i love this song and this video! i am hooked on it.

  • I got the great fourtune of seeing these guys live last month at Ziggy's in Winston and my friends band They Bayonets had the pleasure of opening up for them. It was one of the best shows I've been to in awhile and I couldn't even discribe the atmosphere in the room when this song got played. I get chills just thinkin about it!

  • I must say, lyrics are great.

  • Going to see them tonight in Birmingham!

  • So, I saw you guys on Vh1 today. . . . I freaked out!!!!

  • I listen to great bands like this and I can honestly say that the music of this generation isn't any worse then any other generation, its just so more competitive now and great bands like this are proof. Think as you like but with all the different avenues and different genres and bands that we have today, artists like the beatles would never have sold as many records in today's generation.

  • Whenever I listen to this song, I have to listen to it about 4-5 times in a row, because just once doesn't satisfy me.

  • Great song - greater video - who's not happy at the outcome (a little better than their last video)? Beautiful. We could use a little more of this in these uncertain times.

  • I hate vivo. mispelling intentional to show disrespect. correction: contempt

  • this song has more meaning then any thing bieber or gaga could come up with in their whole career

  • Cool Hand Luke video is sweet

  • This song is f'n epic live. Can't wait to see them in October in Boston. Damn, these guys are incredible!

  • when we live in a world where a group like dawes gets 91,000 views and lady gaga gets 20,000,000, we need to re asses our lives and whats important. the youth of today lacks maturity and intellect.

  • @the24hourprestige I'm 17 and I'm listening to this song right now, not every young person has shitty tastes in everything

  • @Gregd8888 yeah, ik im 16

  • @Gregd8888 im 16 and listening to this music... High Five Bruh

  • @Gregd8888 im 14 and i listen to this

  • @Gregd8888 WE DONT CARE HOW OLD YOU ARE!

  • @creekerwalker get mad faggot

  • @Gregd8888 lol makes no sense gayboy

  • @Gregd8888 im -16 and im listening to this

  • @the24hourprestige ha don't u dare associate me with that bitch gaga

  • Respond to this video... think about it this way...its only gonna get worse but i feel like their will still be a few who have good taste in music

  • @the24hourprestige YEAH - because Lady Gaga is a real dumbass. Not saying I like her music, but I can fuckin hand it to her for being a musical -- at the very least an entertainment -- genius.

  • @the24hourprestige The youth of today? The youth of the nineties were responsible for NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys. The youth of the eighties were responsible for Madonna. The youth of the seventies were responsible for disco. Don't pull that.

  • @hollowbodyhinson i dont give a shit

  • @hollowbodyhinson No, the record industry was responsible for those attrocities.

  • @hollowbodyhinson DAWES band members grew up in the nineties and your listening to them so chill out.

  • @the24hourprestige a majority yes

  • @the24hourprestige hey fuck you

  • @the24hourprestige the youth of today knows how to spell reassess as well.

  • @the24hourprestige "or you can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks" did you even listen to this song

  • @the24hourprestige when you simplify it down to that broad of a generalization, every generation lacks maturity and intellect in their youth. thats why they are in their youth! that does not mean that it applies to everyone in that group. I am 25 and these guys blow me away.

and yes, lady gaga does suck.

  • @the24hourprestige Statements like that lack maturity and intellect. Dawes is fantastic and so is Lady Gaga. Each person has their own differing tastes in music and who are you or I to judge what is universally good or bad? Success does not equate quality, but neither does lack of success.

  • @JamesCurtisMurphy ur gay.

  • @JamesCurtisMurphy Stop being a moron. This fucking relativism bullshit is precisely that.

  • @the24hourprestige they are youth... maturity and intellect are things they have yet to acquire

  • @the24hourprestige:

Your parents said the same thing...

Their parents stated it, as well...

And, your grandparents' grandparents pointed it out, in their time.

When my time comes, I'll probably say it, too.

But, for now, I'll just allow them all to have their own views.

  • @the24hourprestige I'm 16 and listening to this song right now, just like the dude with more likes than you. I have very eclectic tastes and I listen to Dawes and Lady GaGa both. First of all "reassess" is one word, and has 4 s's. Second, Lady GaGa's music is about making people feel good about themselves and making people realize that no matter what they look or feel like, it gets better. So you can step off.

    How's that for intellect?

  • @the24hourprestige It seems to me that you lack maturity and intellect for failing to realize your elders undoubtedly said that about your generation when you were the youth of yesterday. It's all about perspective, man.

  • @the24hourprestige

Think about what the hell you just said. "Youth of today lacks maturity and intellect", Isn't that kind of the definition of youth. When you were a youth, the old ass bastards were saying the same thing about you. Let them like whatever they want.....

  • Comment removed

  • @the24hourprestige Look dude, the youth isn't exclusively to blame for Lady Gaga. There are a lot of middle aged people who enjoy her. It isn't fair to lay the blame solely at our feet.

Hell, who do you think is listening to Dawes? Or the Fleet Foxes? Young people drive good and bad music. Institutionalized talentlessness started way before this generation.

We lack maturity and intellect? Ignorance isn't our fault, blame your generation for fucking up the education system or raising us lousily.

  • @RipleyisBA relax

  • @RipleyisBA "Ignorance isn't our fault, blame your generation for fucking up the education system or raising us lousily." There are several things that I could say about the idiocy of this statement. Suffice it to say: if you are going to blame someone else for your ignorance, you are going to have a weary, miserable life. Can you not do things on your own? Can you not educate yourself? You're using YouTube to watch music videos, use it to teach yourself something...or read a book...dude.

  • @theflakeguy I'm not saying that I'm ignorant. I'm morally opposed to ignorance, but that's because of how I was raised. A widespread, ethical value of being educated is a cultural instillation. My point was that you're laying the blame of a generation's ignorance square at its feet, when, sure, they should educate themselves, but the question should be, why are they ignorant in the first place? They weren't born with a contempt of learning, the problem is that they weren't raised to value it.

  • @the24hourprestige If the youth is lacking maturity and intellect wouldn't the adults that raised and taught us be at fault. You're calling the preferences of an entire generation immature and stupid? I feel like making general statements is one of the most unintelligent things you can do. People are entitled to their own tastes in music whether it's Dawes or Lady Gaga doesn't make a difference. Maybe you should reasses your comments.

  • Comment removed

  • @the24hourprestige I'm twelve and I have the taste of many things- not Lady Gaga or that rap crap. You have my respect, because you're conclusion is right.

  • @the24hourprestige I'm 17 and none of my friends listen to that shit. Damning an entire generation for what a small portion do is ridiculous. I could blame the two generations before mine for completely destroying our economy but that's just brash.

  • one of the best songs ever made!

  • Happy to report that I thoroughly enjoyed their set, and they were well-received in Atlanta. They finished with this, joined by Jerry Douglas on dobro. I'd like to see them again in a more intimate venue.

  • I only get exposed to music that I'm unfamiliar with by listening to an alt-country show on the local college station once a week. I came here to check out Dawes because I'm taking my wife and daughter to see Alison Krauss and Jerry Douglas tomorrow, and they are opening. So far, I'm pretty damn well impressed; I hope they do get more exposure.

  • Why doesn't this song have more views????

  • no words ... brings my ears great joy .. feels great

  • Cool Hand Luke music video:)

  • This only has 83,000 views... :(

    Deserves far more IMO.

  • this is awesome but i think the live version of this song is way better

  • Honestly, what the hell is wrong with a music industry that leaves talent this enormous hanging ou here on the Periphery ? No wonder the industry is in shambles and a state of decay when honest to God great musicians like Dawes, and their friends Deer Tick, and Delta Spirit, where the three lead singers converge and form a super ancillary band Middle Brother are allowed to sit in the back wash of vastly inferior bullshit bands. These dudes are rewriting alt-rock history all over the damn yard.

  • If it gets any better or mor honest than this, I'm not certain Dawes can stay off the radar much longer. Thier new "Nothing Is Wrong" album ups the ante' another notch, and their summer tour schedule will be a truth serum for the pundits and unbelievers, oh yes it will their time has come......

  • Kings of Leon's Pyro sounds identical to this song

  • @Switch1625 Yeah, that's just what I thought too when I first heard this.

  • this recording does not do this band justice. saw them on the 15th with brett dennen and they killed it. so good live!

  • this song is one of those so rare truths in life. hearing it only does so much. feeling it does everything.

  • these guys ROCK live shows

  • Dawes opened for bright eyes. It was a great experience. This was the best song they did!

ps. the drummer makes funny faces when he drums. :)

  • @kaylashootsup when???....when I saw BE recently Dawes was nowhere on the roster...it was cursive

  • @ryattt it was June in Ohio.

  • I saw these guys a little while ago, they were better live then in the recording. Such a great band and this is such a great song!

  • Great tunes, guys...rock on!

  • How the fuck are these guys not more known? I have been listening to them for a couple months now and saw them open for Bright Eyes just outside DC last Saturday and I would have rather had them play for an hour and M. Ward only play for 30 minutes instead.

  • i saw these guys in bend and i really didnt want to listen to them cause band of horses was gonna play but then they played and totally rocked! then i gave the bassist some weed haha

  • Just saw these guys in D.C. I was very much impressed, and I think I've found a new top 5 band.

  • This is SO much better live. Saw these guys last night.

  • @hiyaellk I just saw them last night as well! So much better live. At the pittsburgh stage ae show

  • @hiyaellk me too! amazing live!

  • just saw them perform last night. it was amazing! i saw the lead singer and asked for a picture but he didn't have time. he was so sweet, though!

  • Opened for Bright Eyes last night. I was impressed. And yes, they're tons better live.

  • Comment removed

  • saw these guys open for bright eyes last night.

    they sound way better live.

  • Tired of all the "ignorant kids" comments. I enjoy a variety of music including classical, jazz, and bluegrass, with old school death metal being my favorite. Go figure, eh?

This is a great song. I didn't even know it was on a Chevy commercial lol but hats off to Dawes.

  • the chevy truck commericals got me hooked

  • My five year old daughter has memorized pretty much all of the words of this one. She loves the chorus most and sings it with gusto.

  • That kid is impossibly cute

  • They rocked Carleton College's spring concert last saturday, so good!!!

Definitely gonna buy your new album!

  • You should have seen them in North Hampton! Such a great show!!!

  • @KevFitzgibbons Great show is an understatement. One of THE BEST I've ever seen and I see a shit ton of live music.

  • Saw them open for Brett Dennen yesterday, they did awesome!

  • @Bitur95 Oh my god, me too! Best show I've ever been to (:

  • @Bitur95 I was there too! Sooo good!

  • I've been looking for this song everywhere, heard it on a Chevy Silverado commercial and loved the harmonizing.

  • Cool Hand Luke is an awesome movie and this is a great version of it.

  • Cool Hand Luke!!!

  • I just got back from a Brett Dennen concert where Dawes opened. I had never heard of them until then and I was blown away. One of the greatest concerts I've ever been to.

  • @vanquish421 You must be in Austin. I'm going to see them tonight in Dallas. Can't wait!

  • oh my...the new Chevy Silverado commercial played this song and i was captivated and moved into tears from the voices singing that chorus...amazing

  • its cool hand luke when he was a boy

  • Chevy Runs Deep

  • first time i heard this was in a surf documentary. good stuff.

  • i like that it's on a commercial because then whenever that commercial comes on i'm like, WOW that's a great song. i'm gonna go listen to it. also, great music should be shared with everyone =)

  • i love how upset some of you get because this is now on a commercial.

seriously people? who cares where someone hears a song -- you should be HAPPY for dawes that theyre getting more recognition.

and im only here because they're playing at a show im going to with bright eyes and m ward and i was just curious.

  • anyone else here this on the Chevy commercial?

  • @Ahha3289 Yes! And it took me forever to find out what the song was. Haha. Nothing on the chevy website or on youtube mentioned this song.

  • @TRav4239 i googled "when my time comes chrysler" exactly liike that and i found it in about 3 seconds :)

  • AMAZING song! I love it! WOW!

  • damn. this is in a commercial now. I guess every awesome song will be found.
