  • Man, what guitarin on this song! Patti Smith also does it real good.

  • Wow! First time I have heard this. I have to admit, I was never a Bruce fan, mainly because I didn't give it a big enough chance. But I am a fan now.

  • This is an amazingly sexy song.

  • Fine.! Now i gotta find DiceExpress17' comment.

  • @Adyalissa DiceExpress17 said "best intro ever"

  • @MrStandardhead Thank you so much it really helped.! :D

  • Woahhhhhhh 4.00 thats something ill never hear from Bruce in years....

  • umm i would totally fuck him back than

  • love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love that solo, well I love the entire song. I need to see him live when he tours in 2012. Just waiting for the North American dates to be announced.

  • Guitar solo in this is brilliant! Such an under rated guitarist

  • he sounds like he is dying. patti smith makes me happier. this is an opinion and im just putting that last bit out there because no one here seems to know what an opinion is.

  • @harleyyquinzel Opinion is one thing, to say he sounds like he is dying is utterly disrespectful. Go and listen to your pop trash you muppet, you clearly don't have an eye or an ear for true talent.

  • @fcvertigo that's a little presumptuous don't you think? you have no idea what i listen to. don't bring up disrespect.

  • @fcvertigo and the "dying" thing? still opinion. still valid. you must have something pretty far up your ass that you're attacking people on youtube for their personal taste in music. that or you need to get laid.

  • @harleyyquinzel Yeah I probably do need to get laid to be honest :(

  • @harleyyquinzel

Bruce seems to play every show like its the last he'll ever do.

  • only one boss=bruce springsteen

  • start the fucking song already...

  • the guitar riff at the start is the work of epic,

  • @starladodge4 But... Bruce WROTE the song. He GAVE the meaning to it.

  • @starladodge4 little kid !this song is a song Bruce offered to PS..but anyway fuckyou.

  • @starladodge4 you know they should really teach subtlty in troll school

  • bruce truly owns this song, and his version is far better than pattis without a doubt

  • @guitarbros1000 I don't at all like this by Bruce Springsteen!! Patti Smith is 1,000,000 times better and besides Bruce is the WORST singer there is!! Too much intro on this song, Patti goes right into it!!

  • @guitarbros1000

    get your ears checked.

  • Solo so sick

  • f@#$ yes!! thanx for posting! intro, dog. intro.

  • it's like patty and bruce battle with each other about who has the better version. Patty has won, i think...

  • Comment removed

  • Who cares what Patti did with this pop number? She was and is the high preistess of punk and her own work far outshines this.

  • @L1S91 I dunno, I'm hearing a lot more then a one word change between the two versions. Whoever's doing it, it's a great song.

  • Happy 62nd Birthday to "The Boss" Bruce Springsteen!

  • RAW... the way it is meant to be ... eviscerated, gleaming and redemptive. Painful and cathartic. Brilliant

  • dammit, my volume will not increase any more!!!

  • wow!! <3

  • @MrCalo96LOVESEXCALOX

LMAO!!!! Nice one dude! Springsteen IS God!!!! Well, not really, but....

  • RIP Big Man i will never forget your wonderful sax

  • @danster6969 Damn sad to hear he passed away, after you're comment I checked and it was true, sad sad sad loss

  • this houston show is incredible.

maybe not legendary as the 5 fm broadcasts..

    but everything's just perfect!

good sound, good video, good performances, good intensity, good setlist and quite no marks..

and some of these songs here are truly stunning versions..

    thank you Bruce.

  • I'm not gonna lie, the Patty Smith version is actualy better.

  • @briantravelman I'm not gonna lie. You're an idiot... Lol :P

  • @Nicl3706

And I'm not gonna lie, you're an asshole! LOL :P

  • That guitar solo...

  • <3

  • Amazing song <3

  • Its from Houston 1978. The whole show was released last year in The Darkness of the Edge of Town boxset, its amazing.

  • Considero Because The Night uma Masterpiece ... só poderia ser do Boss

  • Yes I Like!!!

  • I can't understand how Bruce could give this song to Patti Smith. I mean this is one of the greatest and finest songs that he has ever written. Amazing, just shows how talented Bruce is.

  • @JusRam1 Bruce couldn't finish the song, Patti Smith told him to bring it over and she filled in the blanks.

  • why the hell is Katy Perry - California Gurls, recommended with this masterpiece of a performance?!..

  • I love te version of jan wayne

  • I looks like mid 80s. Anyone know for sure. Where was it??

  • @grdens more like late 70s, before bruce hit the gym. he looks so skinny i barely recognised him! still the hottest man around though...

  • where is this from? is there a cd for this concert?

  • What year is this clip from? What decade even?

  • Classic Bruce, he really has a timeless voice and gave such trememdous powerful live performances. What am I talking about, he still does! Long live the boss, and longer may he live!!

  • This guy is my idol.

  • I love this song ....I love his voice....

  • I hate when people steal Bruce's songs. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it just pisses me off.

  • @XxMirnxX Wasn't stolen, Patty Smith asked, as did Manfred Mann, as did The Pointer Sisters.

  • @marmcd2003 Cascada. (-.-)

  • @XxMirnxX Rest assured, the musicians who attained great success from Bruce's songs must have received permission from Bruce first, since he has copyright on all his music catalogue. Bruce likely gets a nice royalty each time his songs get radio airplay, therefore, I'm sure he's very happy when he hears one of his tunes on the radio. He hears "chi-ching" each time :-)

  • Probably the best introduction to any song. Ever.

  • @DiceExpress17

Go listen to "Prove it All Night" it will melt your penis off

  • @MuchoKiller

I've just listen "Prove it All Night" live from Barcelona 2002 and i melt down :)..great audience and performance

  • @MuchoKiller HAHA! Best youtube comment ever.

  • No disrespect to the BOSS but a strong female rendition of this song ,by whom and whatever does more for me.. And i am not referring to 10,000 maniacs

  • @HuxleyBarada with all due respect she never gets the song without him creating it and giving it to her. I will say her version is excellent thought

  • fuck patty smith, fuck cascada, they should nnever have been allowed to do a cover of the boss, its disgusting, they are not even dust on him,he is god compared to them!long live the boss!amen!

  • @MHcleorules I'm sorry but are you really comparing Patti Smith and Cascada in the same category, I mean Patti smith is the only one who can sing this song with the emotion, Bruce is good but will never have the power, the class, and the sheer beauty that patti smith can project to the whole world. Sometimes a cover is a lot better than the original, its rare but happens. And your language is rather offensive so please tone it down. And bruce write the song with patti.

  • @llyaBowden did you just like miss....the whole point of my comment?i think patti is decent,i might have gone too far with what i said about her,but i meant every word what i said about cascada, bruce wrote the song so therefore hes able to deliver the passion, this is my opinion ,thats yours,ok?

  • @llyaBowden Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is much more emotional than Leonard Cohen's.

  • @llyaBowden It was NOT a collaborative effort at all. As Bruce pointed out in his documentary, he allowed Jimmy Iovine to pass the song over to Patti, because: a) the lyrics were incomplete; and b) he felt a bit insecure on his ability to finish this love song. He wrote everything that you hear in this video, music & lyrics included. The most avid of Bruce fans will have bootleg recordings of the original versions, and they're AMAZING!

  • that's why he's the boss

  • Cascada totally stole this!

  • Thanks for posting this great Bruce Springsteen classic. The sheet music for Roy Bittan's wonderful piano part on "Because the Night" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.

  • incredibly good

  • I just... wow... this is powerful...

  • Rip the audio from this song at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • he writes some SEXY songs this is one of my favs

  • gotta love Because The Night!

  • best part was 0-8:06

  • Whoa! The ending of the song was so powerful. Max pulled an early John Densmore from The Doors with a simple drumroll before the final cymbal crash.

  • @PxxBreaker Funny I only see the name Springsteen on it!

  • @PxxBreaker Wrong.

  • Anyone notice the part of this video when Clarence forgets his part.Bruce seems to get a big kick out of it.He looks over at Steve and smiles, then he looks back at Clarence as if to say don't worry Big Man "They can't hurt us now"

  • @estreet690 So funny. . . The look on Bruce's face. . . he's starting to crack up sing the follwing verse. Clarence at least got a few notes in.

  • I love Bruce but whether or how much was written by who, Patti put the spirit in it. O.k. let the fight begin. Bruce can always conger up alot of star-crossed yearning, thats his genius. Pattie put an honest directness in her version that simply moves me more. It just seems like it was written for a women to sing! Don't you agree?

  • @terrybeaton Bruce Springsteen's lyrics are written from a man's point of view, while Patti Smith's are written from a woman. Both versions aren't just great, they're amazing. However I do like Bruce's version more because I'm a man, and I identify more with his lyrics.

  • @RansomII The song wouldn't be around period if Bruce didn't write it at all. Thank's Bruce for all the great tunes and shows!

  • @terrybeaton only it wasn't....since she didn't write any of it. It was completely written by bruce and then when he didn't want it Jimmy Iovine the producer for both of them gave it to her.

  • Why is everyone bitchin' about Vevo? I think it's fantastic to actually have a possibility to watch Bruces official videos here on youtube (fucking sony!). And who the hell even cares about the ads in the corner, all you ever need to concentrate on is right there in the video!

  • @EzkmaN Well said!

  • Vevo is sooo annoying!

  • great intro great guitarin by Bruce and its good by he or Patti Smith.

  • Wow!!!!! God gave us Bruuuuce!!!!

  • Wow! The intro to this is fantastic. Anyone know where/when this was recorded?

  • BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN IS THE FUCKING ORIGINAL GET OVER IT AND FUCK U VEVO

  • i want to make babys with bruce

  • BEAUTIFUL!!! Love the BOSS!!!

  • "Won't watch your commercial or your video. Adios.

  • Yeah guys Bruce wrote this and didnt want to put it on the "In The Darkness" record because he thought it was to much of a love song and he didnt "know how to finish" it...his words. But this is obviously the way god intended it to be

  • Hey clowns.....Bruce IS the original writer and recording artist of this song...he had almost all of this song in the can before Patti wrote her '2 verses' of this song and put her version out there.....she was even reluctant at first to record it. nothing against Smith but...come ON....she couldn't write this music if her life depended on it.

  • Bruce is the MAN!!

  • Adam Sandler looks and sings like Springsteen.

  • He and Patty Smith wrote this song

  • @L1S91 actually no she didn't. Jimmy Iovine was producing Darkness for Bruce and Easter for Smith at the same studi at the same time. Jimmy snuck "because the Night" out of Springsteen's studio and brought it over to the studio Smith was in. Bruce had already decided not to use it on the Darkness album. Patty changed one word and claimed a co-writing credit. If you look at ANY other version of the song you will see that only Springsteen is credited.

  • @broomenpenny Thanks for the update

  • Cite your source.

  • @broomenpenny regardless both versions are amazing

  • @broomenpenny It is true that Bruce wrote the song, music & lyrics, but Patti didn't "steal it."

She had heard it & complemented Bruce. He was , and is, a great admirer, & when it didn't make the cut for, "Darkness on the Edge of Town," he agreed with Iovine's suggestion to offer it to her.

She asked Bruce if she could change two lines. He not only agreed, he generously offered her co-authorship. Brucer Springsteen & Patti Smith. She DID NOT steal it, but neither did she write it.

  • @broomenpenny - Patti changed lots more than one word - listen to both versions.

  • I'm back in my twenties. The kids of today can see why we love[d] this guy so much.

  • bruce is the original. he wrote the song! gave it to patty smith

  • @hams1974 they wrote it together

  • The original version of this song is the best

  • @nuwavevidspud I would have to agree...this one is good but the originals are always the best!!!

  • @pwgirl92 They sure are pwgirl92

  • Bruce never looked sexier, with that polo and the smile he's wearing....And his guitar-playing aint too bad either...best performer of all time....history has proven that.

  • The Boss and the E Street Band at their best.

  • Yesssssss
