Too bad but expected that there are few views of this classic: Artie Shaw once said that there is an inverse relationship between good music and popular music.
Sondheim in his "Finishing the Hat" is hard on himself as a lyricist but nitpicks the earlier greats like Hammerstein. He isn't near the glories of Rogers and Hammerstein and other greats of that Golden, forever gone, Broadway. But jazz has kept that great music alive and even healthier; brought it further, in fact.
Another one of my favorites! What y'all know about this!
