boy, i would love to do something similar, to bad not many old 1/2 A kits still around . you would think that electric modified rc tethered planes would be a good starter for young pilots , and a hoot for us mid aged pilots, the rc industry is close minded to new ideas i guess
@tomview1 do you happen to know antyhing about stringed-airplanes form the 80's? i had an airplane that i've always wanted to rebuy... just some good memories from when i was a kid. Are they called "tethered" controlled? obviously not radio controlled...but i'm having a hard time finding out info on these toy planes from the 70's and 80's.
my club is having a C/L contest on the 20-21st. free entrance and a lot of fun to watch. if you are in or near michigan its at the michigan signal seekers club in inkster.
Thanks for showing us dave. My father used to fly ukies when he was a kid, but it was long gone when I was born in 79 :) so i never actually saw anyone fly these...
@SvenOkonomi Haha. Thanks very kindly. I like to try stuff that others only think about, so guess that is the driving factor. I appreciate your comments. Dave
VERY Cool, Dave! I remember racing these things w/ .15s when I was a kid, It was such a blast with 2 or 3 friends in the circle all jockeying for position. Thanks for a grand memory :)
This is like one of those tethered helicopter setups....only, it's a plane! So there's a funfly in Corona eh? I practically live down the street from there, hopefully I can make it.
Very cool and an interesting concept. I see you are getting to be very nostalgic these days by mixing past flight technology with present. I like it a lot. Your ideas are very creative and entertaining. Keep it up. I look forward to seeing you in my home town of Corona, CA! (Hey folks, it's not often that the Nightflyyer comes to YOUR town!! I am really going to revel in this, haha!) Now, if I can only get a load home to CA that jives with your visit! I'll make it happen!
@ladykiller0005 I will try more stuff, as I see what it is capable of. After all, this was the very first time I tried it, and had to start somewhere. Thanks.
@NightFlyyer Of course, and I'm the biggest guy you'll ever meet. Hey! by the way... any word on Jeff? Hopefully he can make the trip with you. I've been fixing my planes and getting them ready for the weekend. I'm excited!
@rele30 Jeff is coming with me too. He is bringing the Big Cessna, and if it is okay, we plan on combating the Corsair and Zero again. Looking forward to meeting you.
@BestCatEvaDontHateMe Haha. well I thought going from RC to Ukie was going the other way, since I have flown so many RC planes already. Thanks for the kind words. They facinate me too.
Thanks so much for all the videos. It inspired me to start flying rc planes / heli. I'm in the process of moving up to a 6ch. CP heli. (going for the blade 400).
@RcMaster2337 This Goodyear racer was not designed for stunts, only speed, so It wont try it, as you saw in the previous video. But I will put up a stunt plane next time and see what happens. Thanks.
by the way - how fast do you think the plane's able to go with this power setup? I'd really like to calculate Gs on the frame - did you say it was a 40ft line? :D
@BrotherBloat I estimated it at about 45 mph on these 45 foot lines and it felt about like a 6 pound pull on the lines in my video from yesterday when I flew it full U control. When I flew contests, we had to pull test the lines hooked to the wing for up to 55 lbs on some of the bigger gas ones, so I put lots of bracing in the wing on my bellcranks for sure.
boy, i would love to do something similar, to bad not many old 1/2 A kits still around . you would think that electric modified rc tethered planes would be a good starter for young pilots , and a hoot for us mid aged pilots, the rc industry is close minded to new ideas i guess

nice! I've thought about converting a plastic RTF C/L to R/C...
I notice in video, you have two lines, wouldn't it fly better with one?
