  • good job dewd--and you don't need to respond to losers who just get off on tearing other people down

  • What a fantastic video, I rate it 100% ~~

  • For the guy that sez this is a waste of time....don't watch it. Simple? This is okay. Lead-in is a little weird, but cool otherwise. nice.

  • wow nice one danielaragao love your idea thats what its for make a short film put your images down if people like great if not no promblem i like your ideas cheers mark a 57

  • Best lyrics ever; 2:05-2:11

She drinks the zombie from the cocoa shell

  • we need filter for this horse sht Youtube is working on it - waste of time

  • glad to see you back son!

    im happy again.

  • Damn good video, Daniel A!...Great tribute to the Dan song we all love...of course. we love 'em all. Salude!

  • Great idea but unfortunately I can't fave it as you stuck a load of silence on the start with the words you wrote. I do think that YT IS a place to listen to music as well as watch video, you can't always give undivided attention to a screen whereas you can listen whilst other stuff happens... nice idea though as I said.

  • the fading out sounds of this music is so cool with the coconut guitar, i wish it lasted just more longer than a minute longer i guess

  • Mas essa idéia já rolou no cenário de um show do Steely Dan:

  • 3:08 = Genial

  • Great tune & a great video clip To accompany it.Well done sir.

  • Good quality upload, thanks.

  • that chick is crazy hot.

  • Its always a bad dream.

  • Youtube is definitely "a place to listen to music"...like I'm now, not even watching your video.

  • Very good! She is not Haitian though. She looks hispanic. Gorgeous!

  • Very good! She is not Haitian though. She looks hispanic.

  • Wow. That brunette is on FIRE! Seriously energetic and unique. Full of energy and creativeness. I know not a thing about dancing - but that woman made me want to LEARN!

  • Don't you just love the ladies dancing in this, they're so full of life and vitality. The sad part is, these lovely women are either in their 80's or 90's or no longer with us, wherever they are, bless em. Hey, but thats life, nothing lasts forever.

  • Ahh this song is tiiight.

Sometimes it takes several years of the Dan to come back to a song and realize you missed one that you listened to before and forgot how good it was...

I guess I've become even more appreciative of their style :x

  • A song for redheads.

  • @mikongo No it's not - well, I hope not anyway - a "Haitian Divorce" would be Horrible !!!

  • Great song, love it! Steely Dan aren't my normal thing musically but they are different and love how they mix the jazz and reggae influence into rock, damned good! Like your video, and I'm female, the dance rhythm fits the song great and catches the spirit of it. Bit off for folks to be so insulting about it. And shame some sad juvenlie losers have to make the expected sexist comments ... yaaawn! They probably can't get a woman and keep Kleenex in business pmsl.

  • 15 Dick Eaters can't appreciate women dancing!

  • that costume with the big earrings is pretty hot

  • that one with the big earrings is pretty hot

  • I love the guitar solo in this song...very unique.

  • so what if she's 70? with a body like that, i'd just put a paper bag over her face and bend her over a sink

  • Exquisite. Really well done. This Steely Dan lover loves it :-)

  • The idea is derivative, but what isn't on youtube? My beef is simply: Terrible terrible editing! You could have gotten the dancers on the beat if you had simply tried a bit harder. D+ if I'm being charitable

  • I'm a musician who wanted to just check out the bass line, but when I saw your clip I flipped! Wonderful!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I have no problem with the video, but "mine visual?" Come on daniel..you're either a slow adult or a child prodigy.

  • Interesting that the last pre-music note was "a bad dream" Long ago I heard someone comment that Steely Dan's music gives you the feeling that life is just a bad dream. The more I thought about it the more I agreed.

  • The girl in the beginning has a knockout body

  • The video works really well. A good visual interpretation. A great song of course. Has there ever been a better outro?

  • Top banana record, love the hilarious lyric, love the kickass bass and the wonderful Dean Parks guitar playing. A hit in Britain in '77. Pax to all from 'SoulBoy' Smith.Xxx.

  • Great job on your video. ! Fantastic Dan song. Thanks for posting.

  • very cool

  • you are up your own bottom

  • Hey Dainel im afraid you will always have' haters' thats why the world never has or never will have peace some people would argue the sea wasnt salty.i like what you done mate m,ost whats most improtant is what you feel about it and that's all thats counts at the end of the day regardless of what others think, an yway you could always meet up with them and just punch then striaght in the face, does solve things but makes you feel good : )

  • I like this

  • For the people that hated what i tried here i must say one thing: Youtube is not a place to listen to MUSIC, its a place to show videos, try outs, experimental things and etc. Its not a commercial place. That's why i made this video, for people that already knows the song and can accept a new view on something. And by the way, my initial inspiration was the videos that Steely Dan played in a tour years ago while this song was played. So i think they liked what i did here!!! haha

  • @danielaragao This is a Superb song;equally so are the lyrics. They're meant to be extremely funny. Nice try, but this Video has Absolutely Nothing to do with the Song's Content. However; Cheers for the decent sound quality !!

  • @danielaragao Yeah nice one mate, tell it like it is.

  • @danielaragao Dude, you did a great job. Steely Dan I always listened to while doing home work. Watching this video was awesome. Very creative....much better than doing Algebra. I used to listen front to back. "just turn it over and drop the stylus"!! LOL

  • @danielaragao don't get too bogged down by negative comments. Personally, I loved your choice of video on this.

  • @danielaragao i like it,very different.

  • @danielaragao I thank ypu for posting this video. I have always loved Steely Dan. I'm on your side and to heck with the haters.

  • @danielaragao i think it's pretty damn cool. i wouldn't worry so much about what the haters think.

  • @danielaragao that theory works a lot better if your video is actually any good.

  • @danielaragao Hated it? Are you kidding? This is great! By the way, the dancer with the feather in her headband......if bodies were rated 1-10....she is a solid 10.0000 A gold standard.

  • @danielaragao Said!

  • @danielaragao dude fantastic job!

    expect the hate

    YOU'RE NOBODY TIL SOMEBODY HATES

YOU. I am a dancer, I am from the Caribbean, I am Steely Dan's biggest fan

    this is perfect

f all the haters, I mean really

    check their channels and hits

    peace!

  • @danielaragao thats all i do is listen couldn't care less about your vision great tune though nice pick!

  • @danielaragao

Go for it mate. At least you had an idea. I quite liked it anyway!

  • @danielaragao good job.

  • @danielaragao you rule.

  • Hey, man I forgot to say thanks for this video especially the section where the two dance, which is the inspiration behind a dance scene in a movie I'm producing. I never would have seen it if I didn't love this song and you didn't make this video. Here's to you and may you consider yourself brilliant by association. Is it even possible to go wrong with Steely Dan?!

  • Without Dean Park's mesmerizing guitar licks, this lame video would have struggled to get more than a dozen views. Park's interpretation of this reggae/funk masterpiece made it the groundbreaker that it remains today - 35 years later. It's pretty ironic - witnessing this, you're watching the video of a talentless fool while listening to the artistry of a true genius.

  • Well done Daniel

thank you for this great clip. I loved it and it brought back lots of memories.

Mr driver take me where the music plays.............sultry evenings on the ocean front....day by day those memories fade away......no tears no heartbreaking no remorse......Congratulations

  • All you losers would never have the balls to dance like this beautiful lady. Now go beat off to your sister's Victoria Secret catalogue you illiterate, little-dick weasels! Punk trash little turds. Pity no one gave you a rightous beating years ago. You might have amounted to something.

  • I love the video...This is exactly the way I dance to this song.....thanks for posting....

  • who the fuck put that bullshit up at the first 40 sec. what a fuckin idiot, nobody cares what you think just play the fucking song you big jerk.

  • this was my fav song when i was 16

something really uneasy about it all that correlates with adolescence maybe

dont usually like the way people add visuals but this is really simple and so effective

    thanks thanks

  • Holy christ! I wanna hear the music that the crazy dancer is moving to

  • A few badly lit mad women shaking their tits around doesn't make for a good video to a classic song....you fckd up big time here! I did like the couple dancing though, at least they had some rhythmic flow to their movements that matched the cadence of the song. Apart from that...don't give up the day job. SERIOUSLY!

  • I'd hate her laundry bill..what a track and the vid is perfect!! well done.

  • 40 seconds after I clicked Play I was still reading stuff? Just start it!

  • @bernardevans No shit..get on with the song already..i have the attention span of a knat!

  • Parodies of the old grey whistle test?

  • lovin, this tune. day by day those memories fade away.............

  • a white jazz band/with intleectual property

to retrospect the 30's without fear of reprobity or political commentary of the great depression and joblessness/classic trumpet riff

  • Anna! I lurrrrrrrve the way we dance together to this song

    my Darlin John x

  • awful video, you should stop butchering great songs with crappy video

  • Top right hand corner of your screen you will see 3 little boxes with diferent markings. Put you cursor onto the one on the left and left click your mousepad. You will now note that the 'crappy video' has disapeared, leaving you to open something else a bit more enertaining

  • @tilerman

Ha ha ! Nice one Tilerman! I LOVE the video!

  • @ouii8 and we had to read some crap and wait 40 seconds after we had already press Play. Imagine, how annoying it would be, if every uploaded video this this!

  • Absolute classic..danser is a bit like Beyonce dancing style

  • love these guys the royal scam was a great album

  • This song saved my marriage.

  • i twas at da 26 concert........ did anyone see the dancer in the top left balcony during some aja song.... epix

  • @Msmittyblazin...Your Not Alone !

  • concert in toronto nov 26 cant wait...wish more people my age(19) appreciated the classics, and im not talking stairway to heaven.

  • superb tune

  • This video makes me smile each and every time I watch it.

  • Great video to an even better song.

  • Love the swing of this tune.

    Pass the peace pipe!

  • It said it,s made by a fan ;-)

  • good job daniel!

this is not a STEEL dan video.

it's not a steely dan video either.

  • ABOTAH !

    LOL

  • Those woman look like they are enjoying the song!!! Thought they would of been dancing before it was released though?

  • Great video. Doesn't this song have greatest outro ever?

  • And two of my favourite ever guitar solos in the song as a whole. :-)

  • This is steely dans hotel california

  • The 1st dancing girl, has a great bod, but a face like a bucket of twisted assholes

  • You should become a poet...

  • I always wondered what a bucket of twisted assholes looked like, thanks!

  • Hahahahaha

    OMG

    LOL

  • Or a sack of spanners!!!

  • Cool video. I like the dancing girl. thanks

  • great great video.... goes w the music nice.

  • anyone know what year this was in the charts..i think early 70s

  • would have been 1976, off The Royal Scam album, a year before Aja.

  • I liked this ....it worked nice...'she get it on all night"

  • Actually "she get it on tonight".

  • Real hot old skool hainas, nice track (Duh). Great job!

  • tearful runion my hearts breaking

  • I hate the vid - sorry

    brilliant SD track though.

  • Cool stuff!

I'm getting Dan tickets. Hope it isn't sold out yet.

  • By the time I have enough money saved up they will probably be sold out.

  • It's not, and I have tickets :D

  • my favourite steely dan track!!

  • love it love it,but not as good as deacon blues....\geno

  • Haitian Divorce? Is that like a drive thru quickie where the wife gets nothing but the matress and night gown?

  • haitian divorces are a thing of the past. There was a period in the US when you could get a divorce in < then1 day in haiti. This is going way back to the 70s.

  • encourage all generations to embrace this music. u cannot put it in a time frame, think of it as the bach of today and the music of tommorrow.

remember the guy people who were born at the age of 99..its a movie

  • I love this video: the women look great. Also, this is a great song - very liberatory!

  • "Now we dolly back

    Now we fade to black."

    superb line

  • The girl in the bikini is most definitely a horrible dancer.

  • this music is the bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!this guys in their prime and musical masters of the first rank.

  • I could do without the opening cards (just start the song!!) but as always, the wah-wah guitar in this song is the coolest!

  • It's not a wah wah. it's a talk box. You make he sound with your mouth into a tube. Jeff Beck pioneered it.

  • You mean Peter Frampton no doubt

  • Peter Frampton did use it, and made it a lot more popular but Jeff Beck & Stevie Wonder messed around with it a bit earlier around 72....... I love the video sequences that go with this song !!!

  • btw dowsemeister you are completely forgiven as you are a Real Bass Player. Top man

  • Cheers! Credo1958. I just saw it's already been discussed about 7 mths ago! Also, some of Chuck Rainey's best bass work is here on this album, like Kid Charlemagne.

  • Chuck Rainey a monster bass player. About 30% of my album collection came from checking out studio musician credits starting from Royal Scam. I mess and I mean mess with bass but my son is very competent on bass - more so on guitar. Think he may follow your path eventually.

  • that's that shit

  • great song

  • A super post. Great song and excellent footage!

  • I think the story was that Elliot Shiner (their engineer) either went to or was thinking about going to Haiti to get a quicky divorce which inspired the tune. I met Elliot at Bill Schnee's Studio-- really nice dude.

  • When she smiles she says it all, rings a bell?..

  • does the vid matter? the guy posted a dam good song, thx dude.

  • OOps! I was editing the message when it accidentally got posted. I meant to say that the song is a big mistake geographically speaking......is like mistaking the culture of China with the culture of India.

Anyway, I'm sure it has never been noticed since all we care is the song, not the lyrics. However I don't agree wit the comment posted "classic word of wisdom".

  • It's a Steely Dan song, not a National Geographic Special...this is the weirdest, and one of the finest, of Steely Dan songs. Not something you'd find yourself humming on your drive home from work (and if you do find yourself humming this on your drive home from work, Seek Immediate Medical Attention!), but...

  • Cool song & video. I saw Walter last night here in Maui. Just a humble observation: I happen to be a geography major & lived in the Dominican Republic, where they dance merengue and get quick divorces. The song should have been "dominican divorce" instead of Haitian. Both are different nations & different cultures that share the island of Hispaniola. Is like calling Chinese but the song itself is a big geography blunder, not a "clssic word of wisdom"

  • Perfect Sync!Bravo son!

  • fantastic record even without the video

  • Excellent guitar...

I wish I could do that.

  • one of the all time great songs. i remember buying this single which introduced me to Steely Dan. i was only 14 and my school mates were all into Yes, Genesis etc. cack.

  • !SUPERB BAND!

  • 'They dollied back and now they fade to black'

    MAGNIFICENT line.

  • Oh - no hesitation

No tears and no hearts breakin'

    No remorse

    Oh - congratulations

    This is your Haitian Divorce

    classic words of wisdom

  • Year after year this is my favorite video. Much thanks!

  • Steely Dan at thier best

  • nice job with making video.

    strange but hypnotic song.

rubs me funny but i cannot stay away

  • Couldn't play live..? I have seen them five times and have to disagree with you totally, better with Cornelius then without thou...

  • one of the most underrated bands of all time,x-cept couldn't play live

  • you are speaking strictly for yourself, i saw them live in 1973 and they were superb

  • I think squabhole meant they hated playing live. Because being total perfectionists they couldn't create their studio sound which led to the break-up of Baxter, etc and zero tours for years.

  • it is said that they grew tired of playing live due to the flakiness of some of the musicians they recruited to play with....after they got back together recently they found with truly professional musicians it is fun now to tour and play live.

  • You are right and for good reasons which will become obvious when you watch "The making of Peg"

In fact the only members of Steely Dan are Becker and Fagen, everyone else we hear on their recordings was either brought in for that track or themselves multi-tracked playing more than one instrument. it's impossible to recreate this live.

However this takes nothing away from their genius, and remain the finest, most sophisticated composer/arranger/producer/studio artists of all time.

    PEERLESS

  • I think you mean "The making of Aja". Anyway, I totally agree with you. Aja followed by The Royal Scam are by far my favourite albums but it was unbelievable how Aja was put together and probably the most interesting music documentary I've ever seen.

Recent live Youtube posts show John Herington on lead guitar playing this track where originally Becker, himself, used the talk-box on the original - strange...but as you say, nothing can be taken from their genius.

  • big mistake you made dude; its Dean Parks on the talk box...

  • Sorry but Daleks is right. Dean Parks played the solo before the final take but Becker memorised it and added the talk box himself. The guitar part featuring the talk box is played by Becker and not Parks although it is Parks' solos.

  • yeah I've seen them live twice in the past 10 years, and they're amazing.

  • Parabéns..

  • Great song, great film, thanks for the lyrics too. Nice one.

  • anyone know what the source of the film is?

  • What a brilliant song & that female dancer is hot!

  • not sure what this video has to do with the song, but i'm not complaining!

  • Exotic mental imagery of too much, too young and the potion that kills a conventional marriage. True love between a man and woman thrives not on all the fast feelings, but rather the slow feelings of love and respect. God help the rich and famous and the narcisstic. They can't tell the difference between boredom and peace.

  • Chevy Chase once stated , after he and the band became famous separately.... and jokingly i might add....."I used to play drums in a very bad jazz band."

  • 'So.....in love...the preacher's face turned red'

  • Love this song. But can't stand watching this lady any longer...horrible...

  • Was that Denny Diaz soling, cant remember, man thats gotta be one of the most soulful experiences, that second guitar solo to the out is absolutely divine, I remember my older brother playing this album when I was growing up....always loved this particular piece.

  • No. It was actually Walter Becker using the "memorised" solo that Dean Parks put to it the day before only using a Talk Box as an fx. I've loved the 2 solos for decades. Denny Diaz didnt feature on Royal Scam.

Trivia - Steely Dan was originally Denny Diaz's band.

  • this is one of my favorite steely's..other then pearl of the quarter and monkey in your soul.

  • Wow, Becker can play some bad bass too, doesn't he play Bass on goucho also...? Credo, another smidge of potentially daft triv, wasn't Cevy Chase in the original lineup also
