  • Am I the only one who can see this being a porno track?

  • govan is such a pro. I could listen to him all day

  • nice man!!!!

  • The man Billy Sheehan

  • fantastic cover of this 2 guys

  • I must be crazy but havent bothered to learn anyone elses songs in all my 15 years of playing.....

  • @LCNRC You aren't. I don't have the desire to learn other people's songs either.

  • The moment I read Guthrie Govan and Billy Sheehan in the same sentence I started to see the orgasm of AWESOME approaching.

    I wasn't disappointed.

  • Such a beautiful song and such a nice rendition. I'm happy to be seeing Guthrie play soon and hopefully B.Sheehan. Lucky me.........Jeff Beck last year!!!........ I'm in guitar heaven!!

  • I wish people would spend more time tabbing awesome pieces like these than arguing ..

  • @kYfuSioN I wish more people would learn to play without tabs

  • @peavyt15 and why is that?

  • @peavyt15 Nobody can play this with or without tabs

  • One of the best bass players ever with one of the most horrible bass sound ever. The world is such a big paradox!

Well, in fact, what could you expect from those crappy, horrible, ugly, cold, undynamic, static, as cold as ice and perverse DiMarzio pickups?

Anyway, this music is like ambrosia, the eat of the Gods.

  • 3:28 sorry ..

  • Guthrie's part after 2:28 is the most tasty impro i'v ever heard

  • Guthrie never forgot the song, Billy Sheenan stopped playing the song about halfway through his solo and went into "look what I can do" mode

  • I've come to the conclusion that the only reason those chromatic notes he plays all the time sound so good is because they only exist for him... He has the whole alphabet while we're stuck with A through G#

Must have something to do with him being Jesus...

  • What guitar is he using here? Suhr Modern perhaps?

  • watch?v=VC02wGj5gPw ...... mmmm a little difference...we are human! not machines...

  • Oh my... Guthrie shred's at low gain, awesome.

  • If I had Mr. Govan's technical expertise I'd be a force of nature. Like B.B., I have stupid fingers (his words). Anyway, I thought Stevie Wonder wrote this tune - I could be wrong.

  • billy can't remember the tune...

  • I can't believe I've just recently heard of Guthrie Govan!!! He's the sickest player i've heard in a while!

  • Billy sheehan=ever no1

  • i really hate how whenever i watch a guitar relateded video and i scroll down, all i see is people insulting each other.... :/

  • @blondninja100 lol, there's one right below you in the comments, yeah i agree with you there :)

  • Killeeeerrrrr

  • I dislike when people have to discuss how "They are technical but have no musicality" sometimes when fellow musicians play a piece that they themselves did not write, they do it because they are paying homage to that song, and the best way they can pay homage to the song is to at least give the song the justice of playing it their own way. I seriously doubt that Sheean and Guthrie were attempting to make a statement by playing this song, aside from the simple statement of paying homage.

  • I have a problem with guitarists that don't use their pinkies too often, but this guy is so talented I can ignore it.

  • What is Billy doing?

  • @philotze A MASTERPIECE!

  • @philotze What do you think?!? Being a badass at bass!

  • There are very few bassists out there with sort of amazing ability that Sheehan has. He's way up there as far as my inspirations as a bassist go, for sure!

  • Mmmm. Funny - Jeff Beck is a very technical player, but he always manages to create a sense of melancholy in this piece. These are great players, but too many notes & horrible guitar sound. Doesn't work for me.

  • @hoeksma71 well it does work for me.........

  • Sorry ........NO goosebumps

  • Guthrie's initials are the same as 'Guitar God'.

  • come on billy...pop off you know you wanna

  • Careless whispers? kinda has that melody.

  • @mrphilcollins more like the other way around

  • I think both Billy Sheenan and Guthrie Govon are technical wonders. But musically Billy Sheenen is quite a failure. Where did the music go?

  • @JonSebastianF You're a failure at spelling.

  • @JonSebastianF haha who the f@ck is sayin it? i dont know you, but we all know sheehan. :)

  • Man they should maybe try for a long term band/ project together. What an incredible trio. Surely this could raise the profile of the musicians to be closer to being household names.

  • I like that Guthrie didn't shred all over this like I was afraid he would, he didn't stray away from the elegance and beauty of the song like so many guitarists do. Jeff Beck though is the one I listen to though if I want to hear this song. Jeff has the nicest sound.

  • bloody noisy bin men outside are ruining this beautiful piece of music for me! Nobheads

  • theres a reason why Guthrie Govan is a god when it comes to improvising. He knows all the implicated chords and therefore also what scales and dominants he should and could use. PLUS he's got an amazing sixth sense for what sounds amazing. There is a explanation for this... he has been playing guitar since he was 3... no other word for a guy like that than Spectacular. period...

  • How great it would be, James Bond themes would sounds that lovely. It would fit anyway..

  • This vid is pure bliss. Probably the best solo I've heard from Sheehan and Guthrie gets a real Zappa tone here. Love it.

  • i flagged this as inappropriate because this is pure, unadulterated, filthy talent.

  • In the Concert of Croosroads i don't remenber what year was that concert Jeff Beck play this song and he has a girl plaiying the bass and the fucking girl does a amazing bass solo but of course this is much better!

  • @manuek1994 was it tal wilkenfeld?

  • I don't like the tone, but that's just my personal taste... Anyway good playing

  • billy kicks ass!!!!

  • SHEEHAN!!!!!

  • It was written by Stevie Wonder not Jeff Beck.

  • Wow, this was weird! I really like what he plays (Guthrie), but can't stand his sound, first time that ever happened.

  • THIS IS GOOD SHIT!

  • horrible wah and bends... stick to shred gg..

  • @fraud1980 Couldn't be more textbook, faggot.

  • @fraud1980 ..you have a bad ear then , they pitch of each note was perfect and the wah is very typical guitar effect you can't say it was bad unless he is using a crappy pedal.

  • @fraud1980 what bends are you talking about?

  • @fraud1980 haha nice trolling there , did ur mother chokeslam you right before birth?

  • when you are that good, you need someone as good to play with you on stage.

  • Sheehan !

  • best part 3:41 - 3.47

  • WHERES THE LOVEEEE BUTTON!!!!

  • I absolutely adore Guthrie, but somehow still prefer Beck on this track. Maybe it's because he's always got Vinnie behind him on the drums, or maybe it's his tone. Who knows? Who cares?

  • The level of musician ship on the stage is sooooo exciting to behold. I love how Billy treats the bass like a guitar in the sense that he treats it melodically, and as a solo instrument. Guthrie on the other hand is flawless in the way he makes this song his own. It makes sense for Guthrie to do Jeff Beck covers, because they are both unorthodox players...

  • @dahudge14 he used to be a guitar player, guess that makes sense

  • this guy just conditioned himself to be the best. Practice the right way for hours a day for years and MAYBE you get what he has.... the ability to be play what you think but without actually having to think about it... its funny how when you try to improvise you go over the same licks youve been playing for years... and this guy only hits the right notes all the time... hes clearly getting something out of his head straight to the guitar and not worrying about it

  • sheehan is the man played with vai roth paul gilbert guthrie and alot more

  • These 2 are obviously George Lucas creations.

  • The things I could do with that Suhr...and those hands...and that beard...

  • ive been playing over 20 years and this guy inspires me to become better...incredible (govan)...also;; credit to sheehan another great musician....i had the pleasure of meeting a couple of times with mr big .

  • is guthrie's modern suhr black or mercedes blue?? lol I'm having a hard time figuring it out.

  • I hate how Guthrie can outplay virtually every shredder alive, but still manages to play extremely soulfully, even when speeding by at 15 notes per second. That's talent that you can't learn.

  • @HolyKatana

He's up there with Steve Morse, Steve Howe, Al di Meola and John McLaughlin as a truly exceptional guitarist. It's the improv that sets these guys apart.

  • holy shit you can do pinch harmonics on a bass?

  • @xTiLkx Only if you're Billy Sheehan. Attempting this if you're not will make you spontaneously combust with awesomeness.

  • @MrRocknRollJoe What about Jaco?

  • @xTiLkx of course yes, and there are a lot of ways to do that.

  • I Fkrn Hate bass string bending :P

  • Just Ice cool :D

  • GG is so awesome he could have played that without the guitar, and still not fake it :o

  • I cannot think of a better player to cover Beck than Guthrie Govan.

  • guthrie and billy...nice song...

  • GG is a robot sent from the future.! hahaha yeah

  • Suhr with floyd rose ?

  • @asxefv The relatively-new Suhr Modern.

  • Very enlightening!

  • No, no , no The other day i had an spiritual session so we call GG spirit and told me that in real he is not God he is his song (yeah like Jesus), that was the 1st thing he told me, second he told me that i can continue seeing people playing and admire them cause i'm his father but i can't notice yet, so in 2011 a curious thing will happen so i will have a mysterous power in my hands(my fingers) .. xD

  • 3:44 THE WIN!

  • i dont talk about guthrie why should i when billy is there

  • @jakeisdead really? i'm kinda the reverse. i mean don't get me wrong, billy's the shit and everything, but guthrie's just on a whole other level musically, in my opinion.

  • I would like to see Guthrie playing some metal ...

  • I don't get how he can play so shred like yet keep the melody. Unreal.

  • jeff beck song?

  • @TheNightmarex4 Stevie Wonder song. Jeff Beck version. Guthrie/Billy interpretation

  • billys bass is so weird...why does it have 2 input jacks and have the bridge in the body like that?

  • @Savatage420

Probably so that he can channel his signal through two different settings and get two distinctive sounds simultanously, like an electric one and an acoustic one if he has a piezo pickup in his bass as well. I'm not quite sure though.

  • @Savatage420 Each pickup has a separate output.

  • he is the best improv player ever i think

  • great performance!! unfortionalty no mater who plays jeffs tunes, you know when its jeff or not. Hes one of those unique players

  • Face melting !

  • Best playing but guitar sound = tin can

  • @VaiRoth hahaha in that way he can shred all he want w/o messing the subtle melody.

  • this is so incredibly sick

  • Apparently guthrie here has a basic distorted sound underneath an envelope like effect. Does anyone know exactly what it is?

  • @nemogre sounds like a basic envelope filter or autowah...

  • GG must be an alien. An anagram of 'guthrie govan' is 'guitar veg hon'. Now, veg hon is the name of a distant solar system. I just made that up. But, seriously, anyone who can improvise so flawlessly cant be totally human. Mabey he's a robot from the future sent back in time to humiliate every other guitarist! PS. The best anagram of 'billy sheehan' I came up with was 'Ah belly shine'. Yes I'm sad.

  • @willfoxell lmao, i love anagrams

  • @willfoxell you watch to much sci fiction and star wars.

the movie 2012 afected your mine.

  • @willfoxell lolll soo gooddd

  • @willfoxell. Disagree with the alien connection. Do agree he isn't human though. That's because he's God. I know this because he spoke to me. I asked him what happens to me when I die. He replied 'ugo gitar hevn', which also happens to be an anagram. Those words were of great comfort to me. I would have asked the 'hilly banshee' the same question, but I am mistrusting of Irish mythical spirit creatures. You're not sad, just incorrect.

  • @willfoxell XD

  • @willfoxell hahahahaha cheers!

  • jejejejejejjje must be, greetings from colombia

  • @willfoxell or we all just do not dare to practice that much as he did (cause he DID a LOT) ´ceuse we fear what that might bring

  • @willfoxell how on earth did you come to that conclusion?

  • great performance!

  • billy sheehan owns my soul

  • i wish i could explain in words what i v just heard.

  • @TheDanceofjoy I think that would involve alot of "amazing"s and "wow"s but i think to explain this song in words would melt your brain xD

  • I love Billy and and Al Yankavic but...... Nevermind. I was gonna poke fun but I changed my mind. These 2 guys are some of the best.

  • Govan's hard picking is too hard for this song. Theme must be played softer, I think.

  • I totally agree and you would be right if they were playing an orthodox "cover". But, they're both purposefully putting their own spin on JB's version, so it sounds different but I think just as good.

  • wtf is wrong with Guthrie's tone

  • @mdeeRocks too much Chorus :D

  • In my opinion, very few bass-players can bust out a solo and have it work out in favour of the song, especially on a tune such as this. But Billy Sheehan does it very well.

  • @TheSebsteele check out jeff beck live at ronnie scotts because his bass player has an amazing solo on this song i prefer it over this solo

  • @egalt429 ur ryt...he is the best

  • This guy is one of the best guitarist actually in this days

  • must be the dirty channel on the cornford + the moonphaser, right?

  • Lots of emotion in this! which is what we listen to music for afterall...

  • Lol the best version of this song ! XD

  • Wow.

  • ah, cmon, the way he plays out in insane (Guthrie)

Anyway, the more i listen to metal player playing something which is not metal (Friedman, Broderick, Loureiro and now Sheenan) the more I think that metal actually kills talent.

  • @Sarchiopode

What a waste of thought... Metal requires talent, but it's a specific talent. To play this, you need more than just a familiarity with the instrument. I know more "metal players" that are adept in other styles, than players of other genre's that can "fake" playing metal.

It's almost like saying someone who speaks perfect English should be able to switch to German because they have so much experience talking. The different genre's all have their own cliches and idioms to learn

  • @blondiebabae agreed and most metal guitarists hide behing alot of gain and dont need to be very accurate to perform their music

  • @blondiebabae This is genius

  • 00.58 - 1.00 is incredible feel

  • Wow what a vid! love both these guys. great to see them playing together

  • Fantastic musicians, playing a fantastic song, by an absolute legend.

    Great cover.

  • this has made my day after an afternoon shift at work . billy justs get better like somekind of matured wine or something !

  • We will always be loving beings... much respect to all these guys :) One Love

  • Just had a musicgasm!

  • wow that was great....sheenan's bass is crazy i wonder why his bridge is recessed like that? ive never seen that before

  • Just unbelievable...what a performance from all concerned.

  • wasnt much of a fan of billy's solo. but i loved guthrie's: pure magic

  • :O two gods at once :o

  • loving the bend at 2:10

  • sounds great!

  • billy and guthrie and pete riley - Can it be a new band?

  • Any way to say what effects Guthrie was using? is he using an active pedal of any sort or just a good chunk of chorus? absolutelyy amazing performance! +1 Id love to get a copy of his dvd from you guys.

  • @PaulW016 go to the web site, guthrie speaks about his gear and pedalboard in the interview.

  • Jolly good

  • Great tune nicely done, bravo.

  • Govan+Sheehan= pure win

  • Awesome as it gets! Music is an Amazing thing!!!

  • No.

  • Can you believe this is the first time I ever saw string bending on a Bass? And I've seen hundreds of guitar/bass guitar videos... strange.

  • Incredible performance!!!!!!!!! both phenomenal players and so much feel & dynamics

  • Jeff Beck is the daddy. End of.

  • two masters of their instruments. They should play together more often!

  • tasty...!

  • OMG very nearly made me cry like a baby.

guys that was something very fucking special.

i love Guthrie!! one guy i would so like to meet and be friends with.(and get loads a lessons from lol).

    thanks guys lick library FTW

  • sounds like "old souls" from the phantom of the paradise soundtrack

  • Speechless.

  • fuckingtastic!!!!!

  • old stuff
