  • God this song kicks so much ass

  • is that neil youngs kid!? lol

  • that guy is funny rocking out and hes not even in rhythm :L

  • Not quite The Afghan Whigs though is it.

  • The drummer looks like "Animal" from the Muppets...

  • The music is decent, but I've never seen anybody look so stupid while playing a guitar. Ever.

  • @Slay318 You obviously don't play music then. I fart in your general direction hater.

  • @Vendingmachinelady

I do play 'music' as a matter of fact, I play jazz and funk right now, and I used to be in a stonerrock band. I don't understand how you can make that up from my comment anyway.I was talking about him having his guitar placed on his chest, every beginning rockstar knows to have it hanging around his crotch, for the ladies.

  • @Slay318 Thats the old consensus really, a trend has been moving for a while that many of these indie/rock bands have guitarists with their guitars up to their chest. To me, although it makes little difference musically, it looks maybe a little bit more classic and musicianly. Vintage one might say. John Lennon held his guitar so high sometimes that it was in the was of his arm. I also play music, not professionally, but I do the occasional live show sometimes.

  • how could you be that gay to hate on the whigs? their fuckin awesome

  • why the fuck is the singer doing calisthenics before he does his gay battle cry?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, he actually hit the note!

  • just saw then supporting kings of leon they where great what a show

  • @MrPow1983 same, at the NIA?

  • Just watched them live supporting Kings of leon, and honestly all the people around me could talk about was how the lead hops around stupidly on stage, its like to another level, someone on here said that the drummer reminded them of animal, well the lead reminds me of Kermit

  • @99haymaker99 ooh sorry i didn't reply - i never expect to get replies on youtube lol..I thought they were absolutely brilliant - first time i'd managed to get tickets for them live, can't wait to see them again! Hope you enjoyed it (pretty hard not to though!)

  • @hellohello1234567810 LOL i actually got embarrased for him :/ and I weren't keen on their songs tbh... where was you? it was amazing weren't it??? :P

  • @ryan1111111555555555 haha me too! lol i couldn't really tell if i liked any of their songs though :S couldn't really make out most of their songs - it was only this one that i now recognise out of all that they played! i would've liked the be down in the standing bit but i was with people that didn't want to, so i was 3 rows up from it instead, pretty much directly opposite Caleb :D they were amazing!

  • @ryan1111111555555555 how was kings of leon last night!? im going on friday im SO exited! :D

  • Fellow Whigs fans! Check out some awesome footage from The Whigs' live performance at SXSW 2010 on Roxwel.com. I can't post the site here, but just go to Roxwel.com -> Shows -> SXSW 2010 Coverage. They rock.

  • A cathartic evolution in sound without the cheap release so prevalent in pop music.

  • They did well opening for Kings of leon at Hyde park

  • Its sam from Supernatural! Or a young John Fogerty not that im comparing they are original :)

    lol

  • @missleli23 haha, i saw them live the other night and that's exactly what i said!!

  • awesome. saw them in augusta. great band.

  • Just a drop in the ocean with these, and probably just wasted my time.

Shawn Colvin - Roy Pane - Derek Pilgrim - Dennis Morgan - Dale Howkins - The Bokjollers - Boris Gardiner

Charlie Landsborough - Benny Berry Betty Johnson - Fred Ebb - The Booth Brothers - Bobby & Laurie - Ben Colder

Eddie Coffey - Rosemary Rae - Angelo Venuto - TJ Stuart - Christi - Tony Christie Band - Chilliwack - The Dublin Corporation

  • @wintercat2 Wasted my time. Colvin is great. Most of the rest of the stuff (of what I know) is folk or country. I hate most country (Mr. Cash is God) and folk is so-so, in my opinion. That leaves Chilliwack, which wouldn't make it onto anyone's top 500 rock list (I love other Canadian bands though). You offered up mostly country/folk bands when the discussion was really rock/pop. We just have different tastes and mine are electric-guitar based. Thought the discussion was on that. It's Roy Payne.

  • @nobodyhome8 - Just as I thought, I just wasted my time. By you saying most of that was folk or country answered my question that a lot of the stuff I have you've never heard of. A lot of what I listed were 70s pop too.Chilliwack may not have been big wherever you are but sure were here same with Trooper, like I said I listed just a drop in the ocean, I'm not about to post 10,000 of mixed everything.

  • @nobodyhome8 - cont... I'll bet you Googled a lot of what I posted and nothing came up on some of those, since a lot of what I have is really obscure but still very good music. Discussion was not really about rock/pop be hard to find a half million on just song from the 60s 70s 80s I said mine was 60s 70s 80s pop oldies country raggae, you name it from all over the would. I figured you would know many of those I listed but I figured you'd know more than Colvin and Chilliwack. Music expert?

  • @wintercat2 I knew of a few others you mentioned, but barely. I figured someone mentioning 60s-80s music on a Whigs clip would be talking mostly pop/rock. My knowledge is strong in rock, somewhat strong in jazz and classical. IMNSHO, I think most country is as listenable as rap. Folk gets annoying after awhile, too. You got me on a few of them, couldn't even find them on google, which is odd because I can even find myself on it.

  • @nobodyhome8 if you think you hate country but you love johnny cash then you need to listen to better country. i hate pop-country, but i love old country, bluegrass, hinky tonk, it really is good stuff. JOHNNY CASH IS COUNTRY!

  • @angrymandopicker Agreed. I do like old country stuff and bluegrass and honky tonk. Pop-country, new country, whatever you want to call it, I don't like it. I mentioned Mr. Cash because years ago, I put some of his stuff on in my truck and my then 6-year old daughter instantly took a liking to it. Great, simple (on their surface at least) stories and straight-ahead music..my favorite storyteller of all time. "The Last Gunfighter" and so many others.

  • @angrymandopicker And I deliberately picked an example JC didn't write, but he made the song his, in my opinion. Just like he made NIN's "Hurt" his own. He had a gift to tell a story and it didn't even have to be his own work.

  • god you guys are making this waay to big of a discussion. This is a solid rock band. Nothing more, nothing less. It sounds like 90's alt rock.

  • @bignoah87 Agreed!

  • @bignoah87 More people need to be simple and not over think shit, like you. It needs to be "do you like it?" "do you not like it?" "Give an incredibly short reason as to why." End of story!

  • @DeafEyeChicago

overthink it? Just making an observation. u mad?

  • Hey guys, listen, music is serious business m'kay?

But seriously, these guys rock the groove! Saw them open for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in Portland, it was an awesome show!

  • Listen and I think you'd see that they have very good melodies and overall sound. I grew up on 60's music so please don't try to give me a lesson. They are definitely not the Beatles nor are they the Stones, but they're better than a lot of 60's one-hit wonders that are looked upon so fondly today. They've got a good sound and a good heart. I happily mix my Procol Harum, Yardbirds, Byrds and Beach Boys with Radiohead, Black Keys, Fratellis and Flaming Lips. Don't be stuck in the past.

  • @TwoBrothersMusic

Your cousin is a fucking solid drummer.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw the whigs perform on david letterman on march 31, 2010

It's a shame hearing what so called music has become over the years. This isn't music, this is just a bunch of crap noise. Complete garbage, anyone who likes this crap is for sure on drugs. Whatever happened to the great music of the 60s 70s 80s

  • @wintercat2 people who think like you are wrapped up in nostalgia. Just because something was written thirty years ago doesn't mean it was better. If this was written by a protopunk band in 1973 you'd probably be praising the reunion tour. I'm not on drugs. I love this music so go fuck yourself and listen to your 8 tracks til they wear out.

  • @carvin1657 - Yes you are obiously on drugs big time, you called this crap music, its not music moron, its crap garbage noise and nothing more. You couldn't beat the 70s music. idiot.

  • @wintercat2 people who like classic rock are either fucking geezers or pre-teens who are just trying to make daddy love them. I have never done a drug in my LIFE so suck, my DICK

  • @wintercat2 Because, obviously the music from the 60's -80's didn't have anything to do with drugs. You can't admit that a lot of shitty bands existed in the 60's-80's. And why don't you praise the jazz and blues stars of the 20's-50's, surely they were just as good and influential. But then again they weren't alive at the same time you were a crowd following child, so they couldn't have been THAT good.

  • @wintercat2

if you hated their performance last night so much, why wake up, look them up on youtube, and leave a hate comment?

oh and the great music of the "60s 70s 80s", stayed in that era, because that was when those years ended... that question had a really obvious answer.

  • great energy, gonna see them tonight with Band of Skulls at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC... should be a good show. Bassist is nice, got a little Angus Young headbanging going there with that SG bass around the 2 min and change mark.. two thumbs up.

  • @est1988nyc I love Band of Skulls almost as much as I love these guys. They had shows scheduled in Richmond and New Jersey. So close, yet so far :(

  • I just love you guys!!!

  • swietna nutka

  • the drummer reminds me of animal from the muppets during the jam part near the end

  • @nothing2offer ahhahahah it's true ahahhaha!!

  • Friday night at a small bar in Vegas at 1:30 AM. waited through the 4 bands before them, and it was worth it (almost wasn't tho, getting there at 9:30). Cold as hell outside.

  • they played in my small town...and they were great!....they hung around and shot the shat and knocked a few back...great to support good guys with talent...maybe next time ill go with yea to the donut shop boys...you guys sounded great at red rocks too...

  • neil young?

  • lol yea he reminds me of neil young;s crazy antics. i love the passion. these guys kick ass. cant wait for the new album all the singles from it are insane

  • @TheIrishCajun

Lol exactly what I was thinking.

  • i met all of them after the indy KOL concert, at a private pool party, in the basement of a bar next to the conrad hotel. I only really talked to Julian(the drummer) and tim(the bassist) but they were all cool as hell

  • I hear a lot of just good ol' Rock n Roll!

  • im here in alot of psychedelic influence.. of is that just me?

  • I hear it too, like...umm...Norman Greenbaum?

  • the whigs were amazing last night they made the night complete w/kol

  • never heard them b4 excited to see them w/KOL

  • they still touring with them?

  • ya they are. i just saw them last night(:

  • oh that answers it. its ben like a year! dang!

  • am I the only one who hears a little Neal Young here?

  • I can totally hear it. I also hear some Tom Petty.

  • dude looks just like him lol

  • dude, i hear it too, i always have ever since i started listening to them

  • hahahaha, i love that UUGGHGGHHHAAAA! at 3:01

  • Check them out on July 24th, 2009 in Florence, Alabama. They are opening for the Drive-By Truckers at The Shoals Theater!!

  • I saw these guys live on New Years Eve... Fantastic show. Long live the Whigs!

  • great band. saw then with kol last november in philly... rocking. drummer is killer too, but dmb's Carter Beauford my fav of all time. way too totally different genres though.

  • Saw them at Athfest 2007.... persistently blew me away... song after song.

  • THIS is the band to fucking watch. People thought Cobain was crazy talented and all that shit.........This lead singer.....Parker......is unleashed, songwriting is PURE, and this band is basically naked to the world. Drummer is the BEST drummer in the world......no contest.....the man BLEW me away. I don't get blown away much either.

  • Why did you make two comments on different accounts? Yes love these guys. Awesome stage presence. Parker is a polar opposite from Cobain.

    He's a phenomenal lyricist though.

  • Nah, Cobain played guitar, Parker would have to play kazoo.

  • The bassist is great too, he played guitar for a song when I saw them in Boston: Fucking awesome.

  • yea i saw them in boston twice before. i also met them twice. and yea the bassiest plays guitar on a few of the songs while the lead singer/guitarist, Parker, plays the organ

  • Drummer is out of this WORLD.......AGREEEEEE!!!! You cannot buy talent like that..........The dude has most excellent genes......period. Friends saw them play live recently & cannot stop talking about them. Charisma.......Nirvana type of shit. Kudos......LOVE The Whigs.

  • i saw the whigs live twice before. i also met them both times too. they are realy cool and hilarious guys. and thier music is the fucking best. I love them.

  • LOVE

  • The drummer is outttta this world!!

  • look at 1:53....Parker flips off the camera

  • Parker Gispert and i were friends back in middle school. We called him Pork. I used to sleep at his house. He was hilarious.

  • OK. WTF. i don't even listen to these guys but that sort of blew me away. AMAZING.

  • somebody's definitely inspired by neil young

  • i know... Gispert really looks and sounds like a young neil young (if NY was in a college rock band)... by the way, Julian Dario is a straight ridiculous drummer (in a good way)

  • A few years back, I used to own a record store in Covington, KY and these guys came in, bought some records and were super nice guys. They said they were in a band and that I should come check out their show. I figured they'd be some small indie band, but I went and checked 'em out. Needless to say, they rocked it beyond my expectations. Hung out with the guys and saw 'em again when they rolled back though town, even more impressed. Couldn't believe it when I saw them on Letterman.

  • @rocknrollwerewolf - I have only one thing to say about this band, Losers, it sure ain't music, 60s 70s 80s now that was good music. If you only knew how good the music was back then, but you'll never know because all you know is what you were brought up on, which of course is this crap. All this is is just a bunch of noise. Record companies should make it manditory that a song must have a tune to it or it won't be recorded, simple as that. 98% of the bands today would never get a record deal.

  • @wintercat2 You couldn't be more wrong. I am a huge fan of music from the 60's, 70's and 80's... in fact, I'd be willing to wager that I'm more versed in music from those eras than you are. That being said, there are certainly still a great many bands making enjoyable rock 'n roll today. Maybe you don't think so, but perhaps your nostalgia for a time gone by has shaped your narrow opinion. If you don't like modern rock, fine, but then why are you looking it up on YouTube? Just to complain?

  • @rocknrollwerewolf - You say you're willing to wager that you're more versed in music from those eras than I am? Yah right, I have over 600,000 songs in my music files all backed up as well from the 60s 70s 80s from all over the world. I'll bet I have a few thousand songs you've never heard of. So go back and listen to your druggy crap of today like the Whigs.

  • @wintercat2 if you think this is so talentless then why don't you write a better song and you get on letterman? and no one cares how many songs you have on your computer. I probably have 2000 songs from the 60s 70s and 80s and all that means to me is youre a hell of a lot closer to crashing your computer than i am.

  • @lkj2948 - You're an idiot, pretty hard to crash a computer with all your music on a (1TB) EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE - of course you probably don't even know what a TB is. Plus it's all backed up on data DVDs as well. Unless you meant forgeting my computer on the roof of my car and driving off and crashing? Moron, Aww 2000 piddly songs.

  • @wintercat2 oh sweet, thanks for sharing all of that useless information. still didn't answer my question. why don't you write a better song and get on letterman. seems like youre sitting high on your throne of a 600,000 song library of OTHER PEOPLE's music and somehow that gives you the right to criticize new music??? i'd love to hear some of your musical masterpieces.

  • @lkj2948 - Why waste anymore of my time with you two when I could be spending my time getting more great music from the 60s 70s 80s. You two have never heard of a lot of the artists or songs that I have. So why give you two examples, if you don't know the artists or songs.

I'll never be able to convince you young punks that us old farts music from the 60s 70s 80s is light years better than the crap of today.

  • @wintercat2 waste your time? You're the one that got on here in the first place and trashed the whigs. and i never asked to hear about your library of music. i want you to put your money where your mouth is. try and write a song that beats this. then you put it on youtube and see what people say about it. it should be pretty easy since you have 600,000 of the best songs to influence you.

  • @wintercat2 Wow, you are truly a superior being. Listening to stuff we mere mortals aren't worthy enough of hearing. Cut out the arrogant bullshit and give some examples (and don't try to impress us with obscure acts that never did shit...I can do that, too). 600,000 songs must mean a lot of stuff non-arrogant assholes listen to as well. Ahhh, you probably take Phil Collins solo over old Genesis, Starship over JA, Loggins and Messina over Buffalo Springfield and Peter Cetera over old Chicago.

  • @nobodyhome8 - You notice how your language is becoming foul?

Monkees, Styx, Wham. Everyone has heard of them moron. I have music from artists who have put out 20 albums and who have hundreds of great songs that and I'll bet you've never heard of the artist as well as there music before, but no time to go through them to start listing them. All you'll see is WHO?

  • @wintercat2 Dear Superior Life Form, you're a fraud. You got caught in a lie and you're digging a whole deeper and deeper. Admit it, you're a pathological liar who is maybe even deluded enough to believe your own lies. Please indulge me and just give me one band of the many you have that "have put out 20 albums and who have hundreds of great songs". How does it feel to be caught in a bold-faced lie?

  • @nobodyhome8 - Do you call everyone a fraud and liar when you have no proof moron? To you someone having 600,000 songs may seem impossible, well, with your kind of thinking and talk it is impossible, now I must admit, it is a lot of music, but one friend of mine has over 800,000 songs, and I know a retired DJ from the 60s who has over 1,000,000 songs. There are sites you can buy and download music from which have 2 billion songs, so 600,000 is piddly, So unless you know for sure, well you know.

  • @nobodyhome8 - Cont. I know what I have, that's all that matters to me, so say what you want, you have no proof I do. Remember, jealousy will get you nowhere.

    Regards SLF

  • @wintercat2 LOL. So you are a complete bluff. That's cool that you can admit it. Most SLF's wouldn't admit they are frauds. Thanks for the honesty! I figured you were a plant anyway. Peace.

  • @nobodyhome8 - Dear music expert, peace, out.

  • @nobodyhome8 - cont.

Shawn Colvin - Roy Pane - Derek Pilgrim - Dennis Morgan - Dale Howkins - The Bokjollers - Boris Gardiner

Charlie Landsborough - Benny Berry Betty Johnson - Fred Ebb - The Booth Brothers - Bobby & Laurie - Ben Colder

Eddie Coffey - Rosemary Rae - Angelo Venuto - TJ Stuart - Christi - Tony Christie Band - Chilliwack - The Dublin Corporation

  • @wintercat2 Wow! Can I have your autograph? You're simply an asshole. I listen to everything from the 60's and on and love the energy of this band. Yes, this performance wasn't great, but they have some excellent music. A good guitar sound with good melodies and rhythm. They aren't the Stones, but they're better than most of the stuff out there these days and rank up there with a lot of 60's bands that got an easy pass into immortality.

  • @nobodyhome8 - You are definitely on crack, rank up there with a lot of 60s bands,

You call a bunch of lousy noise melodies and rhythm. I'll bet you love rap too, and keep people up half the night driving up and down your street with the windows open blaring this crap. You're an idiot who don't know good music and never will.

  • @wintercat2 Why are you so angry? Get out and about and realize there's good stuff today, too. And, no, I don't listen to (c)rap. I hate the stuff. And when I do keep people up at night, it's usually to anything from King Crimson to the Ramones. You won't put me into a musical corner; I listen to anything that's good. I shed my tie-dye years ago. Give it a try.

  • @wintercat2 Why are you so angry? Get out and about and realize there's good stuff today, too. And, no, I don't listen to (c)rap. I hate the stuff. • @wintercat2 Wintercat2, you're really a pathetic loser. No, I'm serious. I'm really impressed that you collect songs, but do you really even listen to them? Indulge me and tell me what 80's stuff you listen to. Please do yourself a favor and don't respond if it's Loverboy and Rick Astley and Debbie Gibson. You'll just make a bigger fool of yourself.

  • @wintercat2 So, it was a rough night and I don't feel like getting out a pen and paper so I'm doing the math in my head, but basically you're saying you have the equivalent of 50 album releases per week for every week in every year in the three decades from the 60's through the 80s. Assuming releases don't happen on weekends, that's basically 10 albums every business day. Sorry, but I don't even think the rock genre put out that much music. I call bullshit!

  • @wintercat2 So, it was a rough night and I don't feel like getting out a pen and paper so I'm doing the math in my head, but basically you're saying you have the equivalent of 50 album releases per week for every week in every year in the three decades from the 60's through the 80s. • @nobodyhome8 - Continue

and all of which was a hell of a lot better than the crap of today like the Whigs.

I don't care what anyone says, you'll never beat the 60s 70s 80s era of music unlike the crap of today, it will never die. Even the one hit wonders which doesn't mean they had just one hit, were better than the fly by nights of today.

  • @wintercat2 I'd love to hear what 70s and 80s music you're talking about. Give a few examples. It'll help me figure out where you're coming from.

  • @nobodyhome8 - Dear nobodyhomeupstairs, like I said before, giving you examples is hopeless if you've never heard of the music or artists in your life which I know you haven't. I'll never be able to convince you young punks of today that the 60s 70s 80s music was better, like you'll never convince us old farts of yesteryear that the crap of today is better.

  • @wintercat2 Let's see now, if you have 600,000 songs from then and live in an English-speaking country, it's highly likely I've heard of most of what you have, or most of your stuff is out-of-press vinyl stuff that you painstakingly converted to digital. In other words, you're full of shit. Let's assume I'm more than a casual fan, but don't go as obscure as you can get either. Let's see some bands. I'll do your choices for each decade for you - Monkees, Styx, Wham. Come on, admit it.

  • Like early Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Awesome, Saw them opening for KOL at the Electric Factory in Philly.

  • I love the Whigs, mostly tim haha but i really love mission control! saw you in chicago with the kooks and at lollapalooza

  • When I saw them open for KOL, I was getting settled in. Thought they put out great energy & then they played this tune...... I stopped what I was doing & drank it all in.

To find this clip is a treasure to me right now.

    Very refreshing!

Can't stop rockin out to it lately.

I'm going to throw some rope light around my bass drum now! Ha-
