  • James Hill would've been proud...

  • Bulkhead flatcars: The way of transporting lumber before someone cooked up the idea for centerbeam flatcars in the late 1980s...

  • GN big sky blue SDP45's with F7B's is a really cool combination.

  • the boeing plant hasn't changed in the last 40 plus years

  • Today's BNSF borrows it's livery from the Great Northern.

  • the man walking the track in the foreground at 3:30 must be wearing a helmet or something. he looks like an alien!!

  • OK. I take it that is the Empire Builder at 2:27 but what kind of locomotives are those???

    SDP45's???

  • @kmillard yes. In 19 67, Great Northern refurbished their entire premier passenger train by painting it 'Sky Blue.' The famous f-units were replaced due to age and ware and were reassigned to freight service.

  • This is the type of railroad video that must be shown on The History Channel.

  • And no dammed graffiti, either! I hate seeing that on RR cars. Too bad the little bastards don't do it to containers instead.

  • I work for the BNSF on the former GN. Every once in a while I catch an old timer still call it the GN. They are usually non-railroaders too!

  • As a railroader myself, the greatness of the railroad industry is making a dramatic come back with many railroads now double and in some cases triple tracking rail lines in order to accomadate the huge increase in business in the 21st century.

  • Ask a Grandparent:

    Child: Whats GN?

Grandparent: One of the most popular rail services!

    Ask a Kid:

    Kid: Whats GN?

    Kid: Google Network...

Such ashame not to see GN anymore. My grandfather once did work on the GN before he moved to the Chessie System.

  • I wish it was more like that on the current BNSF. Our manager's are a joke compared to what they used to be on the GN. Sounds cheesy but this video makes me proud to have family that worked for the GN, and to be working on a former GN line myself.

  • What an extraordinarily amazingly awesomely sweet video =D

  • Awesome video, don`t see alot of GN video!

  • Sweet,GN,BN made awesome public relations videos,BNSF has made some but not very many.

  • I always liked the old orange and green empire builder passenger trains, but those blue and white trains do look sharp. What a great old film.
