  • Gosh, it's hard to imagine Norma and Adalgisa battling it out over this guy. Lol

  • very bad polione it takes a mario del monaco or coreli thats it..

  • @MAPIAKALLAS Or John Vickers :)

  • Incredible... now the Tucker and Del Monaco fanatics come to the videos of the great Raimondi to insult him... they should be banned. Bravo Gianni! A million times better than Tucker or Del Monaco the shouter.

  • Very good but wimpy compared to Del Monaco. =P

    More musical though perhaps.

  • My reaction was "less pushed/forced" than MDM. I think that, technically, GR could have used more ring/ping up top which would have carried this voice somewhat better. I've listened to a number of his YT recordings & the voice seemed to be somewhat "held in the throat". He, sometimes, hit it well & the top sounded free. You're right though, more musical & it is performed well. Bravo!.

  • I agree with the "held in the throat." I think he had a good voice and was a good singer- and we could sure use him today. I meant no insult to him but he had a more lyric voice than MDM.

  • I understand. I have seen some of your comments & you always seem to be fair & then open to discussion of the artists good/bad points. Since I did not have a career, I never try to thow stones.

  • I do try to be fair and open to polite discussion. You seem to do the same :-)

Unfortunately there is a very vocal minority of "opera fans" on youtube that will engage in irrational mudslinging at the drop of a hat. So friendly discussion is always refreshing... actually in hindsight my comment below ("wimpy") was probably in poor taste. ;-P

  • Bravo!!!

    Tristan 08

  • Gianni Raimondi died at the age of 85 in Pianorolo near Bologna. "Il do di petto"

  • Corelli or Del Monaco was better...yes he have i high C...he is a tenor. But on stage he is boring...no power like Del Monaco no Passion like Corelli.

  • May be boring because is a leggero singing a heavy rol. Is not bad but nos his repertory. And I think about if he did or not the high C, I think that here he is not so young and because singing a heavy rol for his voice makes more difficult to reach the High C when you are trying to give more wide and color in the middle voice. He had no problems with high notes if you listen his Una vergine from LA Favorita... he sings there a High C#

  • quite boring, great tenor anyway

  • This is a major disappointment. He skips the high B Natural just like Vickers and Del Monaco - heavier voices for whom I make allowances. Corelli does it and Fillipeshi does it. I imagine Pavarotti does it too.

Poor Gianni sounds just about finished at the end. Its a killer scene.

  • Corelli did it in the studio but was scared of it on the stage as was Del Monaco and many other tenors. Raimondi follows suit as it is an exposed note. Several Corelli live performances show him doing same. Be fair!

  • I didn't say I didn't like Raimondi I said I was disappointed. He was after all famous for his high notes.

  • It's a C, not a B that he takes the alternate on. The aria is in C major.

  • @Agorante I have to correct you,I have the notes of the aria and it is written a High C "rapiti i sen-si" and the "big names" dont sing it.Some also skip the B flat in the end (not written). So he "skips the high C" (not the high B).Good pronounciation he has.....I am studying this, got the notes (score) 10 days ago.. I like his last high note, the B flat.

  • @karifrid

I guess you're right. I just checked the famous Fillipeschi recoding with my Korg electronic tuner. He indeed sings a High C. In my defense I was probably deceived by history. The first Pollione was Donzelli who was famous for his High B Natural from the chest. The High C from the chest was introduced later by Duprez. Makes you wonder what Donzelli sang and how he sang it.

  • Raimondi is a very good singer. Unless his acting is boring. He was ideal solution roles like this - if it wasn"'t possible to apply Monaco, Corelli, Bergonzi or Pavarotti.

  • One who can sing . Bravo Gianni! Doesn't matter if he has not the power of Del Monaco or Corelli:each note is a right note!

  • Why it low? Raimondi has voice for this. Bravo!

  • Tessitura troppo alta per Raimondi. Fuori ruolo.

  • Forse volevi dire troppo bassa?

Perhaps you would say too low? In this case I mainly agree even if he sings very well.

  • Scherzi vero? :D

  • Yes , Perhaps a tad too light for this role but none the less Raimondi shows what a good technique can do . I always enjoyed listening to his beatiful voice .

  • Beautifull. But, evidently his voice is too lyric for this role. Compare it with Corelli and Del Monaco. It sais all

  • he is one of the most amazing tenor ever lived on earth. His technique, especially in the passaggio is superbe. Sure, his voice it's not in its prime, but he makes it work divinly. An authentic Italian color! Pollione, as for a role, doesn't really fits his voice, but he gives anyway amazing goose -bumps.

    Gianni, we'll never forget you!!

  • Nicely sung and I like his distinctly Italian sound. He has aged a bit though and the voice is a bit dryer than before.

  • Tenorazo!
