Now that I can agree with. Pav's best defense is the offensive pressure he applies. It's a style not unlike Margarito's. However, I don't think he was ever in trouble against Miranda and Taylor hit him with a nasty barrage that took Pavlik all of 2 seconds to get up from. After the round you see him laughing in the corner and saying "Yeah, I'm good". Looked to me as though the punches didnt hurt too bad.

For every punch that Calzaghe would land on Pavlik, the Ghost would at least equal that on Calzaghe, but the difference would be the quality of those punches. Pavlik is a far superior technician and is narurally heavy handed with much effort. Calzaghe would be matched for punches throw, but beat on those landed and power punches landed.
Pavlik'll win it. Calzaghe may have a high output but it looks like powerless slapping after what I saw in that unimpressive Bernard Hopkins effort. That was Calzaghe's last hurrah, Pavlik is going to end his career with a loss.
I expect Calzaghe will make the mistake of sticking around to fight Pavlik, whose frame is ready for the additional weight. I say he brings all of his speed and power up to Lightheavy, or whatever catchweight they might agree on.

After seeing Pavlik in action i don't see him as very impressive at all. Looks like level in middleweight is little bit low comparing the age of Monzon and then Hearns, Hagler and Leonard.
If Pavlic is middle weight it's a big ask to try and get him to move up 2 division to fight Calzaghe at lite heavy. If they fight at super middle, which is JC's natural division, it's more realistic. I'm a Brit and I like Pavlik he comes to fight and is plucky, he has the basics good jab n a heavy right hand/good chin. He doesn't have the skills of avoiding the punch Mirinda/Taylor have had him in trouble and I think Bhop/Abraham will beat him as they have power and can avoid the punch

Now that I can agree with. Pav's best defense is the offensive pressure he applies. It's a style not unlike Margarito's. However, I don't think he was ever in trouble against Miranda and Taylor hit him with a nasty barrage that took Pavlik all of 2 seconds to get up from. After the round you see him laughing in the corner and saying "Yeah, I'm good". Looked to me as though the punches didnt hurt too bad.

This is true about Earnie Shavers according to Ali. Muhammad Ali said that Shavers was the hardest puncher he ever faced and he fought both Foreman and Shavers. Shavers almost knocked out Ali early in the fight and had him stumbling badly.

I think Kelly is well on his way to being nominated for one of the top heaviest punchers in the sport. He's 34-29 Ko's. Pretty impressive. Ernie Shavers is still recognized as the all-time puncher and guess what......He's ALSO from Ohio!!! Youngstown/Warren is on the MAP BABY!!

Completely agree. I'm a fan of both Calzaghe and Pavlik, but wpuld have to put my money on Pavlik, since he's got everything that would trouble Calzaghe.
For every punch that Calzaghe would land on Pavlik, the Ghost would at least equal that on Calzaghe, but the difference would be the quality of those punches. Pavlik is a far superior technician and is narurally heavy handed with much effort. Calzaghe would be matched for punches throw, but beat on those landed and power punches landed.

I hope not. Pavlik & Calzaghe maybe eight or ten years ago would have been a proper fight. But then Pavlik would only have been about 15! Joe is at the end of his career now & I don't want him to go down the Ali route of never knowing when to end. One more fight for Joe, I hope. But not against Pavlik. Not now, at Joe's age. I love the man & I seem to constantly underrate him, but I have a bad feeling about Pavlik. Maybe he'll prove me wrong again!

I don't want to see the Zaghe-Pavlik matchup either. Joe truly has not faced an actual young, hungry, technically sound, busy, conditioned banger like this kid.
As much as I'd like to shutup the Zaghe fans who believe he's invincible, I'd rather see Pavlik walk down Abraham and Sturm, in Euro-based bouts. That would be a better legacy and better fights than Zaghe.

Pavlik is #1 Middleweight. Calzaghe is the -#1 super-middleweight and now #1 light-heavyweight.
So yes. They are both the number one fighters in the their weight class. Calzaghe should force Pavlik to light-heavy, and fight in Cardiff.
But would Pavlik do that? I doubt it.

If Pavlic is middle weight it's a big ask to try and get him to move up 2 division to fight Calzaghe at lite heavy. If they fight at super middle, which is JC's natural division, it's more realistic. Either way Pavlik will still be the one stepping up, the division. Man that dude was asleep while standing, ouch. Those are some heavy hands.

Why go to light heavy when the heat is in the middle weight and super middle weight? If they can meet at super middle weight then that would be an interesting fight.
