People derive pleasure from it, have "sugar addictions" and pretty much use it to make food taste better(why do they want their food to taste better? because it makes life more enjoyable in the short run). People derive pleasure from it, have "sugar addictions" and pretty much use it to make food taste better(why do they want their food to taste better? because it makes life more enjoyable in the short run). You can live without it easily as well. So how is sugar different from anything you would consider a drug?

In both cases your brain is releasing dopamine or serotonin, the only thing that changes is what causes this release.
And you can get addictions to anything, we usually just call them habits and rationalize them away.
What about sublingual and buccal absorbtion or even suppository for that matter! Why must a drug be injected or snorted?

@Alchemy510 "anything that gets you intoxicated and changes your state of mind is a drug". The word intoxicate makes this definition a little better because it implies ingestion of a substance. Your current definition still includes all food and beverages.
And I never disputed your claim that marijuana is a drug, just your definition of drug.

@Alchemy510 Another thing your definition doesn't contain is using with intent to become intoxicated, or that a specific use of the product causes a change in mental state. Things like industrial hemp and acacia wood aren't drugs because people don't try to get high off them, even though they contain minute amounts of cannabinoids and alkaloids which can be taken to cause intoxication.
