I think she does this beautifully! A bunch of people are comparing her to Pia Toscano, which totally isn't necessary, because they both have amazing voices. This Pia vs. Carrie argument really comes down to preference. Pia doesn't actually sing it better, in fact from a purely technical standpoint she is worse. Her vibrato isn't as well controlled as Carrie's and her resonance is worse. Nevertheless, she belts well and some people really like that. I prefer Carrie's softer style. The real emotion of this song is better conveyed with a touch of fragility.
@GirlyGirlxx9 I'm certainly no hater of Pia. I don't even know anything about her, this is the only song I have ever heard her sing. The only argument I made was that for this one single performance Carrie shows more vocal acumen. That doesn't mean Pia's performance is better or worse. That decision comes down to personal preference.
I do have to admit that Pia sang it better. Listening to this version, I'm a bit let down each time I expect high notes where Pia put them in. But Carrie is a better artist so far than Pia... I just think Pia is the best pure vocalist the show has had.

I agree that Pia is a great singer, but I prefer the sound of Carrie Underwood's voice more. I am more of a country type of person. I think Carrie Underwood's Idol performances had more variation to them than Pia's because I was getting something different almost every week from Carrie-Heart, Pat Benatar, Shania Twain- and I always just felt the same thing from Pia. Just my opinion.

I think she does this beautifully! A bunch of people are comparing her to Pia Toscano, which totally isn't necessary, because they both have amazing voices. Carrie Underwood is amazing, but yes, she is stronger now, and she was probably nervous up there, so that's why she was a little tiny bit shaky.

I like Carrie's version better than Pia's -Carrie is certainly an incredible singer - Carrie won Idol on her singing ability and the ability to connect with the audience,m that's why she got the votes - - as for Pia - she has a good voice but for me there's no feelings behind the singing and I think that's why people didn't connect and vote for her

This Pia vs. Carrie argument really comes down to preference. Pia doesn't actually sing it better, in fact from a purely technical standpoint she is worse. Her vibrato isn't as well controlled as Carrie's and her resonance is worse. Nevertheless, she belts well and some people really like that. I prefer Carrie's softer style. The real emotion of this song is better conveyed with a touch of fragility.

@GirlyGirlxx9 I'm certainly no hater of Pia. I don't even know anything about her, this is the only song I have ever heard her sing. The only argument I made was that for this one single performance Carrie shows more vocal acumen. That doesn't mean Pia's performance is better or worse. That decision comes down to personal preference.

I do have to admit that Pia sang it better. Listening to this version, I'm a bit let down each time I expect high notes where Pia put them in. But Carrie is a better artist so far than Pia... I just think Pia is the best pure vocalist the show has had.

@1stpKlosr2 I would beg to differ, but this argument would never end because opinions can't be argued well. I agree that Pia is a great singer, but I prefer the sound of Carrie Underwood's voice more. I am more of a country type of person. I think Carrie Underwood's Idol performances had more variation to them than Pia's because I was getting something different almost every week from Carrie-Heart, Pat Benatar, Shania Twain- and I always just felt the same thing from Pia. Just my opinion.
