  • I'm really happy I found your channel. Please keep making videos!

  • You have such a wonderful gift...eyes that see the beauty in things, heart that sees the possibilities & a voice that glides us through it all. ;)

  • Thanks very much, NiteBlogger. Your comment is very validating to me. :)

  • It is beautiful... Many folks get so preoccupied they go through life blind...

I was intrigued by your apparent manual focus control... Have always used auto focus and had not thought about its application... Excellent production...

All of your videos have always impressed me in this regard (and others)...

Most excellent contribution to the Cinematography Invitation... Thank you

  • oh great, now i'm craving mu shu pork...and that evil plum sauce....mmmmmmmmmm

i love your voice, it's so...like mister rogers meets HAL 9000

  • ha ha! You put your finger right on it! I always describe my videos as "sinister Mr. Rogers in New York." Good times.

  • that's funny, i'm sort of like "sinister 321 contact in antwerp"

  • Wow, that IS pretty. What are you using to edit this?

  • imovie. thanks.

  • Very nice video, i'm attracted to all things oriental so this was a treat for me....being an artist i also like you spend quite a bit of time observing shape & form & often find myself in awe of it's complexity & also it's simplicity...we live in a beautiful world.

I agree a better world is within our grasp.

    Love & Light

    Pete

  • I got here from looking at the Furni Awards, and I am in awe of what a fine piece of cinematography this is! I had little choice but to favorite this one and subscribe to your channel...

  • AVDJ - this was the first video of yours I saw sometime ago. I have back for another look on YouTube. Wonderful for me in UK to get a flavour of somewhere remote - lovely music and cool images. Love B&W. Bran:)

  • I used to visit Chinatown, San Francisco. That city too was multi-cultural and I enjoyed the mix. New Mexico is somewhat similar with its diversity - predominant cultures are Hispanic and Native American. I think Euros are probably a minority here in Albuquerque, but I'm not absolutely sure. I hope Obama can bring the Blue and Red together to form a more perfect union - I suffered too long with this polarization and now look forward to our unification under Obama.

  • Nice vid!!! :)

  • I miss the big cities with the awesome food and culture. love your creativity!!

  • I KNOW D: I want pho noodles so bad. Binghamton just doesn't compare.

  • oh i miss chinatown--i can't wait to be back home in nyc over thanksgiving.

  • Wow! It just amazes me how one single video can reach one's conciousness... maybe I won't be able to explain what I feel but... I loved it!!

  • Walking the streets of NY 'through your eyes and thoughts' was interesting. Happy to know that I will be meeting you all in the perfect shape of togetherness.

    Take care

    Tara

  • AWESOME work~I love the music and I'm amazed by the way you look at things~the lion sculpture, the buddha figures, the biuldings, the fruits, the marine products, the chinese characters, the red lanterns, the acupuncture figure..i see them everyday and have almost taken them for granted~but your video really shows their beauty

  • I love these videos, I appreciate you taking us along with you. AWESOME!

  • Creative people notice details..I love this, so much culture around that some never notice..

  • nice video!

  • I think artists view the world differently than most. They take time to notice; like a second grader's reading book, " they stop, look and listen. " While others may rush and regret, artists choose to walk and appreciate.

  • Love the photography, every inch of the frame is beautifully utilized. Great use of handheld b&w (with the occasional shock of color), very cinema vérité. 5 stars!

  • very nice....makes me think of the golden mean,,,

  • what a great slice of culture and a brilliant way to point out everyday art :)

  • "What would this world be like if we learned how to get along together...what could we accomplish?" YES!!!!!I like the topics you weave together and explore in this video. I think you are really onto something, it's all coming together. You are shaping your inner dialogue into something visual that we can all ruminate on. I love it!

  • I am trying to spend more time working out the right words to make a point, but sometimes it makes sense to just hit record and go for it. It's more authentic that way, somehow.

  • I feel exactly the same way - i want to craft my message more and yet talking extemporaneously seems to yield the most interesting results. I guess I have to learn to do both in tandem. :)

  • Wow.

    This is...

    *Speechless after watching 5 times*

    *Watches again*

  • Totally amazing work.

  • REALLY REALLY GREAT!! really enjoyed!!

thanks for sharing my friend!!5 stars!!~~JJ~

  • This is GREAT!

    I love it!

  • Your videos always take me to some familiar microcosm of the world. Wonderful work!

  • Awesome video, 5*

  • nice one bro!!! glad i finally got to see it.

  • I love Chinatown. i wish I got to see Chinatown NYC when I was there, but Sydney Chinatown will suffice. I really love that Eastern design, so calming in its symmetry. Thankyou for this video.

  • Absolutley amazing videography. AV, you have excelled. Great theme - how many people could make a video about shapes? - I would guess very f

  • ...few. great stuff.

Hey maybe the LHC may create some new shapes for you on the 10th.

love to you my friend, great to see a new video.

  • Thanks a lot, bro! I think I might have something good to go with it so it won't take me too long to finish.

  • Very nice vid!

I just came back from the Chinatown in San Francisco but I think the one in NYC is the best one in the U.S. We have an International District in Seattle that emcompasses many different Asian cultures.

  • You are an awesome film maker! Good stuff! (as always)

  • awsome work....apeman, peace 5*

  • now all I can see are shapes everywhere I look, what have you done.

  • I love this one...Chinese culture fascinates me...really interesting when you speak of all the shapes and possibilities and come full circle to all types of people working together like shapes to make a better world...excellent vid my friend...welcome back!!!

  • Wonderful amost lucid look at shapes on film. I often gravitate toward the mechanics of what makes, or who made the shapes. How the greatness of Man's knowledge creates them, in sometimes, the most beautiful way. Great vid!

  • My brother was a famous artist who died at a much too young age! I adored him! You remind me of him! Keep on keeping on! I will always be your number one fan! Hugs for an old friend!

  • Yes, he did work for Disney! He also worked for Al Capp (I met him and he drew a picture for me) and for Prince Valient! He also was a great friend of Harry Harrison (Soylent Green) and many others! He helped to found the cartoonist's League in NYC!

  • I was telling Mary-Elizabeth, just today, that we need a family reunion, and we think New york would be the perfect host city, especially to see it from your keen perspective. We could feast on old family films. I hear I just missed David in Palo Duro Canyon by one week. Thanks for including me in you film distribution list. I treasure your work. The best of your dad is deep within you.

  • I really like the chinese customs, culture and FOOD! You can almost imagine walking in hong kong watching your video, there is something magical about signs and shapes as we use it a lot in the way we communicate without even noticing them anymore.

the chinese have a long tradition in using signs and shapes, cool ducumentary buddy, good to see ya back!!!

  • love, Love, LOVE this video! 5 stars, faved and featured on my channel! xxoo

  • Great video, and may your optimism spread exponentially.

  • Yeah I noticed that too the first viewing! I thought it was my name but then I saw it was a J not an I. But still, I l;ike the idea of MARJAM as a name too. I think I'm going to start spelling my name like that and when people ask about the pronunciation, I'll be like, "the J is silent and there is an invisible eee sound inferred" and then the other person will be like "oh cool, what nationality are you?" and I'll be like "chinese" and they'll be like "yeah" and I'll be like "totally wicked eh?"

  • the above comment was exactly 500 characters. exactly as i planned.

  • i very much enjoyed your video essay - it takes unexpected and interesting turns (both in the the text and the editing of images and motion) 5 perfectly shaped stars :-)

  • Very Unique. You can tell you worked hard on it excellant job my friend.

  • Very nice work.... Very chill....

  • It IS beautiful. And so is your art.

  • Hi AVDJ:))) This is wonderful!!!

  • I love the slow pull at :50 on. I'm a very linear thinker. I love symmetry and form. Buildings, machinery, technical drawings, Celtic symbols. The relationship between phi, pi and my eye. I embrace technology and the symmetry it offers

  • I agree...soothing, brilliant and much more.

How can we get VP Cheney to watch it before he starts WWIII?

Please keep making vids with the message...it's your calling.

  • This was just super. 5 stars

  • 5*****

  • Mega super greatness! The narrative is soothing and brilliant! A beautiful film. :D Jess

  • This video was shot beautifully. Your narrative was wonderful. Lots of excellent points.

Take this as the high praise it's meant to be: this was like a grown-up version of an educational segment on Sesame Street. It's going in my favorites, but please share it on Tailcast.

  • i was wondering where you went

    glad to see your videos

  • amazing! beautiful as always.

maybe it's about embracing differences too...!

  • I am going to start looking at shapes.

  • The world is becoming more and more like a large community. How we get along in this community is very important.

    Great video.

  • I Have always wanted to go there i haven't been to any real big cities in my life i hope to get to some one day

  • Thanks for the tour of Chinatown and the insight.

  • my brother from another mother you totally inspire me... plz forgive me if I ever take something that you have done and turn it into my own artistic expression but its just a matter of time unitl i do and I wont be able to help myself I just wish that you encourage it.

  • The sights and sounds you've captured here are intoxicating, and the narration thought provoking. Thank you for feeding my muse ♥

  • Have a good weekend man. Hope to see China town someday.

  • always a delight to see what you're up to.

i love your meditation on shapes, your appreciation for mathematical truths manifesting as beautiful forms, for the wonder of living in a culturally diverse and fascinating city. you're such an original thinker, and your vision's uniquely your own, yet i always find something familiar to love in your work.

  • Excellent work! Enjoyed the journey of your thoughts and visuals.*****!

  • Very inspiring, man.. Good job!

  • Shapes are one of the best things about New York architecture. There's so many different styles & designs, from one building to the next. That's why I had fun just walking around, looking at buildings.

Such beautiful thoughts, my friend. What a wonderful way to look at life! What shape do you see? *hugs*

(hope you have a super weekend! XOXOX)
