It's deep that I'm just discovering this video. Definitely an underated group in the US. Besides the All Fall Down and Let Me Be the One songs they played on the Black stations, you barely heard the others from them only on MTV. Years later I discovered Whenever You're Ready. And last year, but now favorite jam from them, The Slighest Touch. Awesome high energy dance.
The dance breakdown wuz hot. Elements of Billie Jean, Beat It, Thriller, What U Done for me, Nasty, When I think of U, and Rhythm Nation all in less than a minute lol.
The descriptions are sometimes so unecessary the description for this video is even pointless we can just about figure it especially when we are Five Star fans
@CommentaryChick Mine was Let me be the one. Those dam bedroom eyes in the video caught me even @ 14 years old LOL. Now im liking the remix of Don't stop on 5starlux . Funny how good music stays with you. Peace
@tomikoberry lol wait who said that. I agree Janet bit someone cause deniece alone was very in sync. witout looking behind her LIke Janet "miss Jackson if your nasty LOL
From what I remember it was rumoured that Micheal Jackson wanted to either work with them or wanted them to do a guest appearance.... that was before everything went belly-up because of a family problem still sounds good though
thats right they were surpossed to be the guest on the BAD tour for the London dates but there father thought that they were to big for that !!! the arogance comes to mind and micheal went for kim wonder. really there father was to blame for there down fall. thinking he could run the band better the record label. usually a big mistake.
I also heard he was spending the money before they had a chance to get it but was not 100% sure it was his fault , I never knew why they never did the Micheal Jackson London tour dates though..I bet they wished they had done it now
They were never going to be doing any tour dates on the BAD Tour, think you are confusing that with George Michael asking them to be Whams support act during their farewell Tour in 1986 which was turned down because they were planning their own tour that same year and not because of anyones ego
This has to be one of my favorite songs and the video is pretty cool. Again having a flash back to my childhood - brilliant. Love Five Star - what are they doing now though ???
You know why, because Deniece the lead singer back in the day had a huge crush on MJ, and she often did try and imitate some of his moves (in her own way). Check out their first vid, (All Fall Down), and just pay close attention to her singing sometime, like the MJ (hiccups)...(if I can even describe it as that, lol). But I loved this group and still do. Brings back a lot of memories of being an 80's teen, lol. :)
@tolla36 i don't agree. Just watch Michael's moves(freestly) and the jacksons too. See if they're really alike Really compare then plz get back to me pal . thanks
I nearly had learnt all the moves, but mum was fed up with the stomping in my room I had to stop lol. Don`t you wish that we did go for our dreams back then. ....(chuckles to herself) lol
Love this song... Apart fromt that, the original five are apparently reforming for gigs this year - check denise and stedman's my-space - also five star offical web page... Bring on the sequins!
OMG!!! is this where janet got her "control" look and dance style from??? I remember Five star, but being in the US we only got a couple of R&B hits from them. They didn't get that much exposer here. Man I thought I was looking at janet if i turn down the audio.
Wow dat vid is cra z but Britney always front dat Florence Nightengale thing. But ur right again. In da chorus she cez "All of da boyz & girls r lookin' 2 find amy. I think it's2:36 were she's cez "Can't u c wut i c" so she's basically tellin' da audience about dis woman with a dual lifestyle. so I'm guessin' amy is a psuedoname when she's out swingin' right?
thanx 4 da tip. Now ur going 2 have me checkin' out sublime messages period now. It's gud 2 b aware of those things, gives u an upperhand. Thanx again!
Denise is in Thriller Live in the Lyric Theatre in London and is also working on a solo career, Doris is a songwriter, Lorraine writes books, Delroy is a producer and Stedman is working on a solo career
after looking at all their videos i cant help but notice the simiarites between this groups videos and janet jacksons....the look of he lead vocalist, the moves, even the music is that pop/dance/r&b hybrid that was so popular in the mid to late 80s....
I hate to bring this up, but the British imports seem to have 'imported' moves by many a Jackson member. When Wham's first video (Bad Boys)came out, it was a straight rip-off of Michael Jackson's Beat It. I couldn't believe my eyes!!!!
All the Five Star video comments sections have these 'Jackson (Michael/Janet/etc)moves' comparison.
So many other copied MJ back in the day after Thriller came out it isn't even funny. Even Janet copied him once (Alright With Me feat. Cab Calloway).
There was a girl named Jillian. Her parents left her at home alone for 3 hours. Each hour she recieved a phone call. It was a man and he just groaned then hung up. She got scared and locked the door. She decided to go hide in her bedroom. When she got there, there was a man hunched over holding a bloody knife. She screamed and then killed her. If you do not post this on at least 10 videos in the next 20 minutes the hunched man will come and appear in your room late at night one night
Its funny how all the female singers in the 80s wore really covered up clothes like you cant see a bit of skin at all... high necks big jackets huge boots and trousers... today they all wear a pair of knickers and a bra if anything, is this a good or bad thing?
Great, great song and still being played in the gay clubs in the late 90s! I know, I was there. Saw them in a PA in the Gale in Birmingham, I think they were still doing the same dance routines too, bless!

It was Steadman. he was caught looking under the cubicles in a mens toilet. I actually met all of Five Star and had dinner with them at their uncles house. Strange but true. Thanks for the vids, great memories.
All I said is that he was caught ! The you reply no he wasn't...... How can you say no he wasn't when you don't even know. Late 1980's, he was caught in a compromising position in a mens toilets in New Malden. It was all over the news. I don't believe everything I read in the papers or see on the news, but no that this happened. Still love their music though.
he wasn't caught looking under cubicles....you said how can I say that when I don't even know, what makes you think you know anymore about it than you do, everyone knows whats been said in the papers and that wasn't it, but it doesn't even matter anyway because he said over and over that he didn't do anything wrong to the public and to his own family so why question it and make up theories about it, the papers printed all sorts of untruthful crap about Five Star from '88-'90
do you want more of this family. and yes they were all brothers and sisters, they came from Romford in Essex, well they are playing butlins Minehead, Bognor and Scegness for late summer 08 and you can get the dates from Butlins Holidays ltd.
DOES ANYBODY AND I MEAN ANYONE HERE HAVE A VHS TAPE OF THIS GREAT GROUP OF THR 80s WEARING THEIR BLUE OUTFIT AND PERFORMING THIS SONG ON STAGE ALONG WITH "WHENEVER YOU'RE READY" AND "STAY OUT OF LIFE" IN 1987/1988/1989? PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP. HAVE THE TAPE BUT IT IS NOT WITH ME AS WE SPEAK, IT IS BACK HOME IN NIGERIA AND i AM HERE IN THE USA. HELP ME OUT!
I love 5 star!! i was 7 and me and my sister used 2 dance in our bedroom 2 this!!!! 80's rocked!!!! Bloody love it........... Rain or shine equally as cool.... xxxx
Did Doris and Del ever actually sing at all? Remind me who the choreographer was. Was it Lorraine or was she the stylist? S*it, I feel old, can't remember jack.
Stedman was the clothes designer, Doris was the choreographer, Denise was lead singer and vocal arranger, Lorraine was the main spokesperson and Delroy was the producer. Doris sang lead on a few songs, three of which were released and should have done a hell of a lot better than they did and Del sang lead on two songs but they weren't actually released
Thanks so much for this Gillian! I went to see 5 star in the late eighties and they were amazing. I went to see Madonna on her Who's That Girl Tour the same year I think and 5* had her matched. Great to see these songs again!
do i detect nose jobs in this video?

Five Star were a great group. I'm surprised they didn't have big success in the U.S. - as you'd think they'd have been even more popular there.
It's a shame they don't get the respect they deserve. At least their fans love 'em.

Remember in the 80's women singers all wore HEAPS of clothes in their videos, like buttoned up shirts, trousers, coats like she is wearing here?
Nowadays they dont even wear pants or they're naked or they just have a tiny dress on, and its all about how sexy they are, hmmm just a thought

he wasn't caught looking under cubicles....you said how can I say that when I don't even know, what makes you think you know anymore about it than you do, everyone knows whats been said in the papers and that wasn't it, but it doesn't even matter anyway because he said over and over that he didn't do anything wrong to the public and to his own family so why question it and make up theories about it, the papers printed all sorts of untruthful crap about Five Star from '88-'90

Did Doris and Del ever actually sing at all? Remind me who the choreographer was. Was it Lorraine or was she the stylist? S*it, I feel old, can't remember jack.
GrossbergerXXX 3 years ago
Stedman was the clothes designer, Doris was the choreographer, Denise was lead singer and vocal arranger, Lorraine was the main spokesperson and Delroy was the producer. Doris sang lead on a few songs, three of which were released and should have done a hell of a lot better than they did and Del sang lead on two songs but they weren't actually released

Thanks so much for this Gillian! I went to see 5 star in the late eighties and they were amazing. I went to see Madonna on her Who's That Girl Tour the same year I think and 5* had her matched. Great to see these songs again!
