I find the director's approach a bit problematic and I don't agree with his belief that ppl are not "naturally born gay" but I appreciate people speaking for themselves.

I watched this series last yr but never commented. As a straight Blk spiritually-oriented Christian woman, I feel homophobia is a MAJOR issue in our community that needs to be addressed. The hypermasculinity that Kelly briefly mentioned is partly to blame (bell hooks has done a wonderful job of discussing hypermasculinity in quite a few books). Religion is the another. Blk folks love to disingenuously throw up the Bible, esp. when homosexuality is the topic but fail to turn to the Good Book...

I'm "white" Puerto Rican from the island (I say "white" cuz I know I'm not white in America)and I'm going to tell you right up I perceive most Blacks are bugarrones or penetrators, they can be with "gays" cuz they are still "men" if they fuck the gays. So most of them are cool with sex just not politics because they don't feel they're other than men. Now to me most fundamentalists in PR are Black and they are scary bc they're very violent. Apparently, all you need to strip someone of any rights is to get a mob thats big enough. Prop 9 will be to ban divorce to really 'protect' marriage lol. Since ballot measures don't need legal arguments or scientific support or reasoning, all you have to do is make it popular and PRESTO, its passed into law.
