Yes you can do aela but is until 75 and to get him as companion you need to get a quest and do it in his side he thanks you by becoming a follower

You know that you can do the same with Aela the Huntress, she is an expert so she can teach you up to level 75(i think so) and she can be a companion as well.

@thirdhandjosh he probably has a quest that you have to do in order to recruit him. Like the quest that involves him and the bard trying to get with the girl in the Riverwood Trader's place. That's a quest that involves Faendal. Cheers

@TheTMshadow Its a quest. Go to the Inn in Riverwood and there should be a person named Sven, hes the one singing and playing music. He'll give you ah quest. You then have 2 choices. Give the ltter to the girl in the trader or tell the wood elf. Go to the wood elf and he'll friend you. Thats it. Have him follow you

@brusier3612 Yeah. You can get Aela to do the same exact thing. Also, getting married to her is also a profit because between you leveling up and retaking your gold, she owns a store and shares half of the payment with you, so you make some profit in addition.

@latdum you finish the love letter quest (miscellaneous quest) make sure you do the quest in Faendal's favor, he then offers to become your companion, now you can pay for Archery lessons then get your money back by trading with him.

I think I missed the chance to make him my companion. Early in the game i helped him out and I didnt know you could have companions and I didn't click the "I need your help" dialogue box and now when I go back to him it looks as if there is no way to make him my companion

When Faendal died for me, I went to Riverwood after a while and a dragon was flying around, when I killed it all of the townspeople came to check it out and suddenly Faendal was there. He even had the stuff I had made him carry when he was my companion, everyone please thumbs this comment up because you'll be able to get him back. This has worked twice for me when he died, even when a dragon wasn't there you just have to find them.

This is not a glitch. Also, you are allowed to purchase 5 skill levels of any kind per character level. I'd suggest to spend them on skills you don't use as often so you don't have to spend as much time leveling later. Of course, the smarter way to go for total leveling is pick pocketing your money back as early in the game 5 levels of whatever plus 5 levels of pick pocketing easily gives you another character level.

You can do this with ANY trainable skill using these simple steps:

1) Find the trainer of your choice.

2) Pay for 1 Level-Up.

3) Quick save and crouch until hidden.

4) Pick-pocket the NPC and find the gold you just spent.

5) Pick-pocket the gold (load the quick save if detected).

You can repeat this process up to 50 levels.

Not only will you power level the desired skill, but you will also power-level your pick-pocketing (which will grant you access to the fantastic "Extra Pockets" perk).
