  • you cannot eliminate this culture but what u can do is modify it to benefit the environment e.g change the engine to electric or hybrid.

  • why do i keep getting adds on going to Australia? im from australia for fuck sake -.-

  • @junkrat1 because you don't have adlbock plus

  • BACON STRIPS!!lol

  • 2:24 it's bubba stewart!

  • hahah what a crowd

  • Actually the jeepney and the culture and values that went with it, gave birth to additional backward forms of public transportation which are the following: Tricycles, pedicabs, and habal-habal. This is a gauge that the country is furthermore worsening and moving backwards.

  • The philipino guy can explain this really well

  • this is great but the music could be a lot more indicative of the philippines. they love 80's and karaoke and american pop and the beatles and tagalog songs. that song choice was obviously only catering to the director's tastes and not giving us much of a sense of what it's like to be there and see the culture.

  • Nice comb-over dude!

  • not only a comb-over but nice & greasy too!!! lol

  • who the hell goes to a third world country and complains about ergonomics?

  • I rode in several Jeepneys when I visited the Philippines. I fit just fine, but I was a little too big for the tricycles. The one thing I noticed is that everyone honks their horns and many cars fit into one lane. I hope to visit the Philippines again I really enjoyed it.

  • @Mitchb87

    are you fat?.

  • Kabayan...., thanks for this video, this makes us proud to be a pinoy and for the young generations to come ...., they must realize that being pinoy is one of the best in the planet.......

  • @jollyringo2 i honestly dont like being fillipino JS

  • the big jeepneys are fine. its the smaller suzuki multi-cab jeepneys thats horrible. TOO SMALL.

  • ehnriko-- good luck on your plans, any help to make a mass oriented public transportation economically, technologically, and environmentally more efficient is most welcome.

  • I believe every culture craves for some sort of attention, first world nations are no exception. The motive of the economically capable elite to drive around beautiful cars are no different from driving around a decorated jeepney- one has to separate aesthetics from technological issues. Economics from Folk notions of art, middle class comfort from realities of developing nations, its not that simple my friend, the jeepney is a manifestation of a myraid of issues we have yet to address ;)

  • I really hate the ergonomics of the common Pinoy Jeepney... keep bumping my head on those overhead hand rails as well as the one at the end or the roof fan tail. My elbows also are always soring in pain as the keep hitting those tubes rails... This is merely an expression of a culture that craves for outside attention. Never mind whats inside... just keep the vain exterior at par with traditional norms...

I hope someone would finance my concept of a modern ergonomic carnival.. er. jeepney.:)

  • Nice my dad owns a jeep and a jeepney in the San Carlos city in the Visayas

  • to lisabonelady, remember that the safety handles of the jeepneys are also mounted to the ceilings, raising it a foot high or more will not let the sitting passangers to hold the safety handles

  • We had a British consultant way back in the 1980's to help us plan the Metro Manila Region. He said when he goes back to UK he will put a decorative horse like in our jeepneys in his BMW in London. My co workers are so amazed of my small jeepney on top of desk in my office.

  • The roofs of these Jeepneys are made too low. It makes them difficult and uncomfortable to get in and out. You often stand on people and almost certainly end up crushed against people in a clostrophobic and sweaty enviroment. If only they made the roof a foot higher, would that have been so difficult?

  • The average Filipino is 5" tall, so we really did not have problems getting inside the jeepneys. You seat at once anyway and you can not stand on it, only in buses. Since Filipinos generally take a bath once or twice a day, we have no problems with sitting side by side or really cramped inside it. It promotes bonding, too.

  • I'm Philippino, and I'm 12, and I'm 5'5 I guess I'm taller then most philippino adults, lol.

  • it's Filipino with an F. not with an PH..

  • Well Americans spell it with an F, Philippinos spell it with a P.

  • @thegamer201 filipino.

  • Wow! Cool Video! I really like it a lot. Make sure to come check out my car site at: CarCommunities . Com

  • Jeepney. The ONLY way to travel in the province.

  • I rode a jeepney in the provinces. They weren't as ornate.

  • To import a jeepney to NY with NY's emission standards would be impossible. They are such heavy polluters, but wonderful, amazing pieces of art. Check out my raw, unedited jeepney footage at bundangbear. Shot from the heart of Taft Avenue in Manila!

  • i want to import t a jeepney to here in NY.lol

  • stick to jeepneys nalang sana including bus, taxi, tricycle saka tadyak cab.eh nagsuluputan iba pang public transportation..sana they've developed an airconditioned jeepneys maintaining their standard body kits and boost safety capacity nila para sa mga safety concerns...i love jeepney because they are philippine innovations and hence a pride.putang ina nalang sa ayaw ng jeep...

  • hinde pwedi tol maging aircon ang jeep hinde siya long distance travel sakay baba tao . pangalawa mag aamoy utot kong sailed up sa aircon ang jeep patay lahat ang pasahero. ang masaya sa jeep kong katabi mo maganda na mabango he he he lalo na taga office he he he

  • There ARE aircondition jeepneys already. But most of them are used as private vehicles :/

  • airconditioned*** sry for the typo :P

  • @tribalscene well don't blame some of us Filipino's who hates this rustbucket, Im a driver and these drivers of these metal monsters will cut you, will stop in the middle of the road to unload/load passengers, and will shout and swear at you when you refuse to give them a leway, o God sake, Im not generalizing all jeepney drivers but I think they need to be re-educated about basic driving do's and dont's,

  • the garbage trucks! lol. even flips don't do that buffoons!

  • P.I. who said jeepneys are ugly? Papatayin kita!

  • sama ko sa iyo Pre! hehehe dalawa Sarao namin kahit luma me pakinabang! go Jeepney

  • why u peeps dissing the jeepney? They rock! and its a way for many to make a living there. if they get rid of jeepneys, what those drivers gonna do, drive bullet trains lol

  • Jeepneys don't cause traffics... people cause traffic...

  • i agree with you holierthanthou....we don't have to be sentimental, these jeepneys are running garbage.I'd been to many countries and riding into an airconditioned and clean buses is safer, comfortable and polution free.Jeepneys are the reason why we have so much traffic and air polution on the road specially metro-manila.

  • There's hybrid jeepneys now and newly design ones...peace!

  • your right Bro sa Pampanga na transparent pa yung hood tapos aircondition pa kaso private.

  • At least be glad that the

    Filipino fixation is on the

    jeepneys. Just imagine if it

were the Calesa and its variants!

I wish that the fixation was

    on professionally designed, engineered, and

    assembled cars, vans, and trucks.

  • They make it look like such a great thing. The reality of the situation is this is probably one of the worst forms of public transport. They are smoke belchers and are quite unsafe. Although some of these jeepnies are colorful, most of these jeepnies today are very poorly mainatained where headlights dont work. They are alsp very dirty to look at and very dirty to ride. And need i mention, their drivers are the most irresponsible and recless in the Philippines? It is about time we replace this.

  • Get rid of those jeeps and invest in better and safer forms of public transport. Don't let sentimentality get into the way of progress. Modern forms of transport are cleaner, fuel efficient, quieter, and faster yet safer on the roads.

  • Ugly jeepneys!

  • Just because a person belongs to a group (work colleagues, barangay, city, or country), should it necessarily mean that one has to like everything about it. He probably likes most of the things that represents his identity/culture. But he cannot be forced to like everything. If he is to criticize, allow him specially if it is constructive. But don't be amazed because he dislikes something and speaks about it [in a very professional way (by the way)].
  • kreeepeee: You said, "(I HOPE you're not Filipino".

What do you mean by this.

    Am intrigued.

  • Oh it is that term neo-classicism.

I am a Filipino. I live in Metro Manila.

Yes. I am intolerant of the jeepneys.

I wished it ceased to exist perhaps after about 5 years of its inception to give way to better and safer forms of transport for my kababayans and myself. What kind of art does it represent? Vulgar art?

  • @ManilaWasAlsoRaped We have the same Ideology my friend, the Jeepney does not represent Filipino ingenuity......it represents our lack of ambition to improve ourselves and be satisfied with scavenging with other peoples inventions.....I grew up riding on Jeepneys and I always loved those days, but when I turned 17 and became a driver myself, I saw how they pollute the air with diesel byproducts, the ruthlessness of jeepney operators that has caused many pedestrian and motorcycle rider deaths

  • Guys, the Japanese had to let go of their steam engined trains with a lot of sentimental rituals about 30-40 years ago to give way to the bullet train. Am sure those trains were also forms of art if you may. But it had to go - to let progress take its way.

  • @271828183141592654 I agree, as long as there are jeepneys, Manila streets will never be free of misery

  • wow

  • Hi Hairpietime. But what kind of art? Maybe yes, one can look at art for a while. But this "art" as you call it is perhaps the most dangerous form of public transportation in the whole world. As if the jeep still bore with it the dangers of world war 2. People die, get maimed, and suffer on account of this well engineered vehicle wonder.
  • Ingenuity after the war? OK. I'll accept that.

But 62 years after the war and still existing,

Man, this is plain laziness already. You love the jeep so much, you won't let it rest. Any Filipino car version of Malaysia's Proton? Korea's Hyundai and Kia? India's Tata cars? No need to mention the Japanese cars anymore, but the Filipino has been left behind and he has not realized it yet. Sad and pathetic.

  • So you think this is sad and pathetic?

Its a type of cultural art, its good that its been going for so long and may it keep on going.

Modern western life is very stagnant, but i guess you like that Holiert...

  • You have to remember that had Manila not been bombed to pieces by America, then this kind of ingenuity would not have been deemed necessary.

  • Good day kreeepeee.

What is ingenious about the jeep in the first place?

It had 4 wheels, an engine and lengthwise seats (as in current jeepneys) are were already there.

They just tore down the back door and lo the world famous jeepney!

  • Hi ManilaWasAlsoRaped. Yes, that's your opinion--which could be said about anything culturally assimilated -- like in archi, music, etc. You'd probably ask 'what is ingenious about neo-classicism? It had pretty much the same elements as classicism'.. You're free to think the way you you do, but I hope you realize that you're terribly intolerant of other people's heritage (I HOPE you're not Filipino)

  • Ingenuity after the war? OK. I'll accept that.

But 62 years after the war and still existing,

  • why would you take a historic car apart to make something worth nothing. i do not understand the idea behind that.

  • necessity is the mother of invention. also, jeepneys are not your family car nor your weekend vehicle. they are operated for income, much like taxis.

  • Early '80s, I was in the Navy and went to PI a few times. Subic city. We'd go out partying, stay in a motel, get a jeepney ride back to the ship in the morning. It was like 2 pesos (10cents US) to ride one. We'd throw them like 20 pesos ($1US), "keep the change." Locals thought we were millionaire crazy ass Americans. It was like monopoly money.

  • ahhh, pimp my jeepney

  • Wow... It been so long that I have been to the PI. After watching this vid puts me back in memory lane. Great times it was. Thanks for the vid!!

  • proud to be flip i miss the Philippines

  • This reminds me of Lowrider culture in L.A. Cool video!

  • i miss ph.

  • I'm homesick!!!!!

  • There's nothing there! There's nothing there!
