commenting under my hubby's youtube acct, but I was your 4,444th viewer and I just have to say thanks for the memories! I just came across my issue with Star Wars on it!! This was a magazine ahead of its time! LOVE IT!! ~Carolyn from CT
Finding this youtube video is awesome. I had no idea other people remembered Dynamite Magazine too! I wish I could find a website that comprehensively describes what bonuses, cards, trinkets, posters, etc came in which issue. I had the 3d King Kong issue, whichever issue it was, and I'd love to set eyes on it again. There were so many of these mags I never owned but would love to know more details about.
"Comic Book Confidential" was my favorite Dynamite feature. Each column profiled a superhero, in the form of a text article giving background info (origin history, trivia about the character, their major enemies and allies, etc.) , along with a sampling of artwork reprinted from their comics. The very first issue of Dynamite profiled Superman, and the Hulk and Batman were featured in the second and third issues. The issue that profiled the Hulk also featured him on that month's pull-out poster.
I was born in '78, but they had this in my elementary school back in the 1980s. In fact, I was surprised that it even existed in the 1970s- I remember it said "For the 80s Kid!" on the cover.
Thanks for this, I remember "Dynamite". On a "...Kotter" note, there was a "Kotter" script reprinted in one of the mags or books around that time, "The Great Debate". One of the smarter kids got into an argument with Barbarino and one of the insult lines was censored. It was rendered as "You're so low, you could play handball against the curb", the original line was "...you could crawl under a pregnant ant!"
Remember when the box of Scholastic books came to class when you ordered?
I remember this magazine when I was a kid! My dad got me a subscription for 4 years in the late 70's and I collected every issue. I think I have all the issues in a box somewhere in the attic. Now I'm going to go hunt for that box! I have to admit though, I always preferred the magazine 'Bananas' over Dynamite--there was just more stuff in it.
Hey, this was a great trip down happy memory lane, thanks! I worked on the staff of Dynamite back in 1979 as an intern and even posed for one of the trading card inserts (as a waitress named "Cookie," I think, been awhile). One of my jobs was to sort through the mounds of "Bummer" entries each month.
I remember putting a Mork poster up on my closet door in the late '70's. Modern day bummer... Don't you hate that we are now old and cool stuff like Dynamite are a thing of the past?
On a lark, I Googled Wow! Magazine and found no mention at all for it...aside of World of Wrestling magazine and Women of the Word magazine...happy to hear you namedrop it.
Man, that brings back the good memories! My wife and I both had the 3D King Kong poster, and we grew up a thousand miles apart. I remember the interview with Gary Burghoff, Count Morbida, and, of course, Bummers! the 70's RULED!
i always remember the one with The Hulk(Lou Ferrigno) on the cover. also, I had plenty of "walks" with the teacher myself. thanks for the memories, brother.
I have about 50 issues, including #1. My favorite section was always the superhero comics, especially when they did origins followed by Q&A. Loved the Dynamite Duo (wish I knew how it ended too). Posters were great... I still have a few of the 3D ones with the glasses intact. I was amazed it ran until 1992!!! I agree with you Xaves511... there's nothing like that out for kids today. Sadly too many TV choices 'round the clock. Keep posting! Awesome stuff!
back in Jr., High. It was my favorite magazine at the time. I remember Count Morbida's crosswords, the Bummers, A word from our Sponser & my favorite was the Dynamite Due.Sad to say all good things come to an end & my Parents moved me into a Private school where they didn't accept Dynamite Magazine. It felt like part of my childhood was gone. I was wondering how did it end for The Dynamite Due?
Well, in the 70's I was a year or 2 beyond these magazines. In the 60's I had my bedroom walls LINED with pics from such mags; eg. the FAB FOUR (now, who were THEY?-do u know?-FF was not their name; just what they were called).
I loved Kotter. "Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out. Welcome back..."
I only remember a few. I can't remember how I got them. It seems like I ordered them and was really looking forward to getting them and excited when I got them. Seems like there was some preview or something so I knew what the cover looked like. I just say "rag" because that would be my opinion of it today. I know I had that first one you showed because I remember the cover.
Would you know what happened to Magic Wanda, the girl magician who used to teach magic tricks every month. I miss her and would like an update. Please tell me what you can. Thank you.
I don't know what happened to Magic Wanda. I'm not even sure of her real name. I think it would be a super cool idea if YouTube put out a periodic publication and adopted the Dynamite style and colors along with it.
Interesting............just before my time. I was a child of the 80s and 90s not the 70s and I don't think they sent any publications to Australia or New Zealand either.
i reamber i used order them in school bring back memories....i reamber the baseball cards still got those,,no book

I went to an under-funded urban school. The best I got was "Firecracker" magazine, a really bad imitation of "Dynamite". :(
