The F22 was supose to be finished in 1996, but soo many problems the development period went from 9 to more than 20 years, and now when its ready it already outdated technology and need to be modernized :)
Watch my movie with info from US congress about the raptor - its a flying Enron
Report to US congress 2007 (GAO-07-406SP on page 78):
The F22 have at least 2 structural problems:
- The F22 have cracks (up to 18 cm)in the aircraft's aft boom where the horizontal tail attaches to the fuselage.
-The F22 have cracs in "titanium casting" materials near the engine.
A key reliability requirement for the F-22A is a 3-hour mean time between maintenance, but right now its LESS than 1 hour! The F22 is junk, its very unreliable!
Read here how the Eurofghter owned the F22 in close and BWR combat! Source: "internatinal AIR POWER REVIEW" - year 2006, issue 20, page 45. - ISNB: 1-880588-91-9 (casebound) or ISBN: 1473-9917.
Most Airforces have these reports - read it yourself - instead of listening to US kids with the F22 poster hanging on the wall!
Aren't people happy that the Eurofighter is getting built at all? I mean, the IAC hasn't any fighter jets at all, simply because we have a 1/100000 chance of becoming under threat. I find it incredible that an aircraft which can make 5G turns without the usual loss of speed is being ordered by air forces. Oh, and elplakko, I built that too, it was an old Airfix kit.
If the coldwar hadn't ended it would have been in service in the late 90's or earlier but in peacetime there is not pressure to introduce it.
It's not just this plane either, the F22 was designed and developed around the same time as the Typhoon and it is only just coming into active service now as well.
Unfortunately not, the airshow was over and we were walking away, I looked back when I heard the Merlin taking off but I'd already packed up the camera.
when i was a kid (about 14) i had a planemodel of this, now iam 32 and i think the german "Luftwaffe" only got some testplanes, why is it takin that fuckn long?
yeah but germany ordered 180 for 60 million euro per plane thats more than 36 billion euro for all. I think at least the producers can deliver it in time.there are 640 fighters ordered from all countrys, if my information is right austria will get 18 planes too, so 5 countrys over all.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a Raptor-killer.
Europe will buy at least 635 Eurofighters...
USAF have gone from originally saying it would purchase 750 F22 Raptors, to now just 183.

elplakko 4 years ago
Well this was an RAF one... but I agree it is taking too long. Getting 4 countries involved to build 1 thing was never really going to be fast :)
buffalocreid 4 years ago
but it works much faster to develop und build that new airbus, what is wrong with the european military?
elplakko 4 years ago
Nothing, it's not the military that's building it... they're just the customer ;o)
