  • I watched it on TV when I was eigth or nine (now I'm 51) Thanks for posting. Love from Argentina

  • This theme song brings up memories of the good times in this country before Vietnam and all that followed. For those among us who lived through it, the Anderson family mirrored who we were and who we aspired to be. It was the right show at the right time for a country living under the nuclear threat.

  • Agreed Murraymae. This is what the American Dream looked like. I certainly don't see the American Dream on TV today. It's all winning the lottery, high rises and girls in Bikinis in Florida. Father Knows Best was the attainable American Dream. Manners, love, forgivness, caring don't cost anything. Millions did live like this and could live like this again. But, it doesn't sell Fruit Loops, so don't look to TV for examples.

  • The beginning of this theme has always disturbed me (it sounds so OMINOUS)...

  • @shmuli9 IT IS. ITS A SATANIC MESSAGE. ITS SAYS TELL ALL YOUR PARENTS, TO GO F$#% THEM SELFS...TV IS FAKE.ALL THEE ACTORS ARE PHONEY, AND YOUR A DUMB ASS FOR WATCHIN IT.....

  • @whokeithmoon You are wrong grasshopper. Millions of people lived that way and still do. I was one of them. Even on this show, the real people loved and respected each other and considered each other family always, communicating even until death. Watch the archive interviews with Elinor Donohue and Jane Wyatt. Learning slowly but surely who you are and learning to care for and respect one another is never fake or phoney.

  • This isn't the original theme. I'm a baby boomer and have all of the themes memorized.

  • As far as I know and have ever watched the show (which has been MANY MANY years) this IS the original theme. I don't know what people are talking about when they say it isn't.

  • Bring back shows like this again. No wonder the world's gone down the shitter, with all the filth and garbage we call 'entertainment' nowdays.

  • It appears that this is the uncropped instrumental track used as the intro for each show before any of the vocal overdubs were added... Also, only the instrumental track (minus the beginning) was used at the end of each show as the credits rolled by. A very recognizable tune for a TV show that remains popular to this day. LG

  • not the orginal theme

  • This is not the original if I remeber correctly

  • What a wonderful theme song for a great television series, that taught us family, love and human values. I think the song is called "Waiting" a good value for all of us to have.
