Her voice is incredible. The tone, the timber. Her voice has the most fabulous fairytale magic to it. It's like fairytale come into being. Her voice has luster. It removes you from your body; an out of body experience.
@hitomusic Yes, perhaps, yet i never knew an artist who sang so much IN her body, who showed so much how physical the act of singing is, how the voice is really a musical instrument, which much be practiced and played again and again. As effortless as the result may sound, if you watch her, you can see the physical effort. See her Vissi D'Arte in German, even better! The pianissimo at the end is more luxurious, more subtle, more meaningful.

Str to hear people say she didnt emote like he great Italians.with that name wht the hell was she. Someone should post better caballe on here from recd .Nothing hear sounds like her at her best.Where is the Jessye in Puccini.I wonder if she'll ever give us some Lehar she has grace and charm.

Have to agree that it is the wrong role for her - poor Italian, no sense of the anguish the aria should portray. But in the right role she was [one of] the finest singers on record - you won't find a more sublime Ariadne auf Naxos... EVER!
Agreed. Della Casa wasn't "italianate" enough for Tosca or Mimì (though she's not bad at all, just not ideal), but in the German repertoire she has few rivals. Besides Ariadne, I add Arabella, the Marschallin and Chrysothemis. That said, she excels as few singers ever in the Italian operas of Mozart. Her Contessa is the most delicate and captivating ever!
Thanks for for posting this gem! I am a Della Casa fan. It is interesting to hear a German singer known for her Strauss and Mozart singing to undertake this role. Although she lacks that italianate sound and expressivity, she has beautiful tone and radiates a very youthful spring of feminity.
Lisa Della Casa was one of the most beautiful women on stage, but her voice is too light for Tosca, also her phrasing is not good, she does not know the text well, it's noticeable
