'I think that if America really wanted to help the world and regain it's sense of leader ship, we would be setting an example for the rest of the world be using legal investigative strategies instead of snatch and grabs.' - Dorieku
My father was tortured by the NVA for 5 days during 1968 in vietnam, although I do not agree with torture on most levels, I have no sympathy for the scum being tortured by US interogaters in Afganistan/guantanimo/Iraq, etc.
Thank you, Karen, for bringing this to the surface. I have been a part of the movement to end torture for political prisoners and dissenters. Thank you for expanding my consciousness about torture.
This is great work but I think you are chasing windmills. I truly hope you can do some good, democracies, as you know are not immune from torture. A law on the books does no good as long as your fighting forces are not trained and brought up with some compasstion in their souls.
there are alot of 'wrongs' in our world today that people generally do not believe happen. And until those unbelievers are educated and have true knowledge, they will not have the capacity to understand the impacts these actions have. There has to be a better way in which the world lives. well done to all the people who work to right the wrongs in the world!!
When the rule of law becomes a living, breathing, practiced document, everyone wins — and there is no better candidate who will lead this movement to end torture in the 21st Century.
Please lend your support to Karen Tse & IBJ's vision in saving & giving people back their lives — society needs them. Let's all do our part in shifting the course of world history, one prisoner at a time, one country at a time. Pass this messsage on to everyone you know.
I agree with you that torture has no place in the modern era. Torture is a totally unreliable source of information. Every day bogus "confessions" are coerced from innocent victims by police who are too lazy to investigate properly or do not have the talent or resources to do so. Torture is also a tool to support corrupt governments that have no legitimacy. There is no forgiveness in this world or the next for destroying souls. We are all children of God.
I think that if America really wanted to help the world and regain it's sense of leader ship, we would be setting an example for the rest of the world be using legal investigative strategies instead of snatch and grabs. But what do I know... I'm only an Eagle scout. The world can change for the better, it's up to us to make it happen.
Wow! what a powerful and touching message. Thank you for sharing and what a wonderful way to use non-traditional media to express such a disturbing and sad fact. Keep up the good work!
I think the catch is what an 'ordinary citizen' is defined as. One man's ordinary citizen is another man's political dissident. The U.S. is a huge perpetrator of torture itself..
No human, even an evil one, should be tortured. Its just sick and wrong.
that was a very touching and inspiring video.i am Foskey 52,but no matter what you say or how you say it ,if someone doesn't start doing something about it,that is all that will be done.people just talking.I know it is going on here in our U.S.A. ,but if caught, there will be something done!!
It's a dirty, ugly problem and not so simple to fix as it may seem. A child may steal a bicycle because he works for some con artist, possibly a parent--who will abuse him if he doesn't do so. It is usually those at the bottom of a hierarchy who are punished and abused so authorities can find out who is pushing them, and their cases are not often brought to light.
"One day people are going to want peace so bad that the world's leaders had better get out of their way." - General Dwight Eisenhower
"The best reasons to not use torture are that it makes the torturer more evil than the evil they're fighting, and it compels others to do it to our own citizens. Fox News' Bill O'Reilly stated water boarding is not torture. Surely sure he wouldn't want it done to our soldiers?"-Chris Aable, M.A., "What is Self-Evolution?"
Thank you Karen. Thank you for caring. Its too easy for folk like me to ignore the realities while cozied up in our little worlds. We all have our problems, however, sometimes, it takes a nudge to right our perspectives towards the plight of others--others who would take our lives, our problems, before we could finish the sentence, in trade for theirs.
It incredible, isn't it? That despite our adcances, despite our idealistic views of the evolution of our respective nations, we still live in an age where crimes against humanity are not only tolerated, but acceptable -- and in some cases, even encouraged. Thank you for creating and posting this video.
I appreciate what you're saying Karen because you are speaking of details that could easily go unrecognized. Unrecognized because I know I am lucky and spoiled, being a product of American society. I wouldn't trade my luck (and my imperfection) for anything, but I do feel the need to see beyond. Thanks for showing me - former RA (w/you)@Scripps (aloha Karen!!!)
I agree with everything you say, but I don't think that is the MOST important objective of 2008. I think that the environment is a slightly more pressing matter, but this is still an extremely important issue.
Karen, please keep up with the excellent work. "They" need your VOICE to the world, I am 100% sure someone will be listening and help you to make the CHANGE..........

Truth to power, Karen!
The single Presidential Candidate that has pledged not only to End Torture, but to define it, is Congressman Dennis Kucinich.
He will stand up for human rights and end any form of torture at the hands of America.
Ask the other Candidates and they will dance around the issue and speak politicial double speak.
