My father was tortured by the NVA for 5 days during 1968 in vietnam, although I do not agree with torture on most levels, I have no sympathy for the scum being tortured by US interogaters in Afganistan/guantanimo/Iraq, etc.

This is great work but I think you are chasing windmills. I truly hope you can do some good,democracies, as you know are not immune from torture. A law on the books does no good as long as your fighting forces are not trained and brought up with some compasstion in their souls.

And until those unbelievers are educated and have true knowledge, they will not have the capacity to understand the impacts these actions have. I agree with you that torture has no place in the modern era. Torture is a totally unreliable source of information. Every day bogus "confessions" are coerced from innocent victims by police who are too lazy to investigate properly or do not have the talent or resources to do so. Torture is also a tool to support corrupt governments that have no legitimacy. There is no forgiveness in this world or the next for destroying souls. We are all children of God.

I think the catch is what an 'ordinary citizen' is defined as. One man's ordinary citizen is another man's political dissident. The U.S. is a huge perpetrator of torture itself..

It's a dirty, ugly problem and not so simple to fix as it may seem. A child may steal a bicycle because he works for some con artist, possibly a parent--who will abuse him if he doesn't do so. It is usually those at the bottom of a hierarchy who are punished and abused so authorities can find out who is pushing them, and their cases are not often brought to light.
