This is done on the radio to make it clear that he is saying NINE rather than a word that sounds the same. It's done for clarity. In this instance he is indicating the target is 979 meters away.
His comments about 1/4 value wind are to let the shooter know what direction and speed the wind is moving so he can place his shot accurately (wind affects bullet trajectory). Hope this helps.
@looneycrewvideos its niner 7 niner clearer in the radio it means 979 yards thats the range to the target and quarter value is .25 MOA in the scope or 1 click cause it takes 4 clicks to make 1 minute of angle (MOA) so quarter of 4 is .25 so the sniper puts a quarter minute in his scope in the direction the wind is coming from so .25 MOA left

@derekdl7rock you do not need to know his height to figure out wind. Only distance, and since you already said he is 870 meters away the wind is going to be a SWAG.

@derekdl7rock OK so for the .308 caliber , if we take a 168 grain bullet HPBT , the time of flight at 800m is approximately 1.4 second .
for a target moving at 4 fps at 800 meters I would hold 2 mils ;-)

@derekdl7rock OK so if I want to get at the point of impact at 43.75 MOA , with a mil dot reticle I would hold 2.3 mils , just a little bit more upper than the second dot , but less than half mil to be sure I am at 2.3 mils :-) .

last time i checked these guys were Marines, If you want to see some real shooters go to Quantico Marine base in virginia. There is a BIG difference between the army and the Marines when it comes to thier sniper programs.

.308 holes, make silent souls! very good effects on this, if you didnt know you would think it was real.being a long range shooter it still amazes me that you can launch a bullet that arches to 12 feet above line of sight at mid range and comes to rest dead on at 1000 yards and still has enough energy left to easily punch through a mans chest or explode a head. love that pink mist!!!!!!!!
