  • We need more experienced ALTs like yourself. That five-year contract restriction is ridiculous!

  • Thanks. I think it is good for the kids to see a fresh face, but I would have been happy to transfer to another school in my area and continue teaching.

  • Whoot! Happy Anniversary Omedetou!

  • Hey Jason,

    Your videos are incredibly helpful.

I am currently undergoing the application process for JET and I would be very interested in paying $10 -20 dollars for an in depth letter of intent review.

  • Are you sure you want to do this website? do the costs outweigh the benefits?

There is a good chance that if you do not have an income to support theweb site, you will have to charge a fee of some kind or at the very least receive some form on endowment to maintain it.

Also consider your objective. Are you trying to make your information freely available, or do you believe that putting a membership fee will help you better reach out to your target group.

    (cont..)

  • I find that charging for your content goes against the initial spirit you had when you began blogging about JET. Something to keep in mind.

Consider your objective, your constrains and make a judgment based on how you prioritize your preferences.

  • I'm kind of a semi-regular newbie to your channel, and enjoying it very much. I was surprised to hear that people have asked you to take down videos. Were people just JET Program haters, or was there something about your content? I have really enjoyed your insightful comments. Good luck with your site! Lots of great advice here! Keep posting!!

  • WOW I cant believe I wasnt subscribed to you. I've been watchin you for a while, i dont know how that happened. Anyway I took care of it.

  • thanks! I hope to have new videos every week thru the end of the year.

  • As an economist I can tell you the best way to make money in this situation is to offer everything free and just remind everyone of your paypal donate button. I look forward to another 3 years, Jason! ありがとう!!!

  • yep - I think that's how I'll proceed... Another 3 years?? I hope so! :)

  • thanks Alex!

  • I can host webpage \forum \videoes and anything you like m8. Got my own servers so would not cost me anything .

PM me if interested. (this ONLY applies for Jason, not random YT ppl)

  • Awesome - I'll send you a PM

  • You can add a forum to a site using wordpress...I just don't know how XD

  • If I was applying to JET, I don't think I would be interested in the proof read/advice; maybe other people would be though. The supplement content fee wouldn't necessarily be a problem, but I think I would contribute for the support, not the content. I really think the best bet in this situation is a Paypal donation button, with all the content available. If I'm enjoying your hard work enough to pay for exclusive content, I think I would be happier to donate at that point than pay fees. IMO.

  • Yeah - that seems to be the vibe from most of the responses - I think a "donate" button will be the best way to go. I certainly don't want to force anyone or try to make out like my content is worth so much, etc.

  • Well i guess the nerd in me can help you here.

For starters, you'll need to register a domain.

You can get a domain, without hosting.

Or a domain with hosting (i'd go without hosting, since it's more convenient)

Second about Web Design, you could try finding templates, or get someone to design it for you (not so cheap/or pay some 15 year old to do it for you = cheap)

Also don't get yourself screwed with crap hosting, use Google to search for reviews.

  • haha i totally thought tron too when you said "users".

  • can't wait for the sequel!

  • You should check out MySpace.. Its free and allows you facility to upload photos... and think there there is less limitations on video length and size....Many Vloggers have a My Space accounts.. you don't need much experience to put things on there

  • Facebook is good for networking and you can create separate private and secret sites where a the created you can grant access... probllem with face book is that uploading videos is not too fast and that there a buzz going on a bout the control and ownership of content

  • PMed Jason

  • thanks!

  • i'd definitely throw you 10 bucks or so man, these videos are awesome. Great way for people to learn about the JET programme. I'm amazed that you put in this much time, energy, and work for something out of the goodness of your heart.

  • Good web hosting in SoCal - MediaTemple in Culver City. Cheapest package- $100/year for up to 5 sub-domains and 50 gigs/mo. A very good deal. They will also Reg. your domain name for less than $10.

  • cool - I'll look into it. Does it matter that my ISP will change to Japan when I move back next year?

  • I PMed you one solution, that one doesnt matter where you live, what kind of computer, which applications you have etc, aand I would be willing to sponsor a little to get it started too :)

  • You can either continue the existing hosting, uploading new content from Japan to the US hosting server over the internet, or you can find a Japanese host, and transfer the domain. (At the Domain name provider website, you can enter new name-server addresses.)

  • IMySpace.a netwroking site where you just get a free acoount you can have various content private only to friends, I have not read the rules about using it for commercial purposes.

  • Happy Anniversary Jason. I think a website would be great. I would gladly pay fee to get access to pics/vids you could show on Youtube. I think if you put up maybe an example of an essay and/or offer consultation on the JET essay/app. that seems fair to charge a little. I mean $5-$10 is pretty cheap so I think it would be very helpful. Id use it

  • thanks for the feedback

  • I'd certainly like to take part in your forum, offer advice, etc. But I'm only working part time and barely making ends meet, so to be honest, I wouldn't pay for any additional content. Also, you might want to check out Japanforum(dot)com and Jetprogramme(dot)org. Both are fairly active forums you might want to join as well.

  • I'd pay around $10 a year for extras. I think I would be able to handle my own essay hopefully. Lol Since there is no guarantee that I will get into JET with a specific essay. etc etc. Good luck on the website though, very much so looking forward to that. And pics would be cool to see. :)

  • hmm i think thats pretty reasonable to ask for some payment for personal assistance with applications and what not as that requires a lot of time.

as for the higher level of access to videos and what not I dont think it would work out that well. And in all honesty I wouldnt pay for it at first but perhaps if you did clips of your exclusive vids i might subscribe to it but i dont know. its one of those iffy things for me

happy anniversary and keep up the great videos.

  • thanks for the feedback

  • haha, its your 3 year anniversary and my 21st birthday today, how interesting.

wish i had found your videos those 3 years ago.

afraid building websites is not my specialty. but a forum sounds like a brilliant idea.

Is the holiday when they actually hold the sport's day at the schools or is it just a holiday that has "sports day" in it?

gah, that would be so sweet to get that from one of your students. I don't think i have enough manliness to not break down. It's just so cute and sweet.

  • My website hosting and design skills are pretty outdated by now but I'd definitely be willing to donate a small amount to help with hosting etc. Free is always nice but I see no reason why any of us can't chip in $1 or $5 or whatever for the knowledge and work you've put in to this.

  • cool - thanks for the feedback

  • congrats, umm you could host or rent a website but to host you need to have really good connection i believe its around 100? not sure could be off and to rent is about 15 or 20 again not to sure and yeah id be willing to pay 12 annually for the videos they are filled with information they are worth paying for

  • Happy anniversary. I too need to build a website for my CG art, but I don't know much about building one. Sorry.

As for money: I don't plan to apply for JET (at least not anytime soon) so I wouldn't have to write a paper. If I was, I still wouldn't pay to have you review my essay. Nothing personal, but I just have confidence in my writing. As for paying $1/month for your site, I could see myself paying for that, depending on what the extras were. Hope everything goes well. Good Luck.

  • Hey man, I appreciate your feedback on my blog - as you know I'm kind of doing a similar thing at the moment, and I can tell you that a condition of setting up is that it all had to be for free. If you want to get any feedback on anything I did on my blog, I'll be happy to fill you in.

    Cheers mate!

    Peace

  • I'd pay $5 or less annually for your future website :)

  • well as for the internet, try Free webs.,com and bay a monthy fee of 9.95, or 55 for a years, make a site and it's very easy

  • thatll be 5 in the morning here..=\ if you got time to make this you got time to do blogtv!=P do it now!XD

  • .com domain costs about $10 a year. find rental server service where you can use database (DB). choose your favorite CMS like joomla, xoops, wordpress etc. if you make a fair quality of website, it is not difficult to get google adsense accout. forget about getting money directly from users ;)

  • I willing to do a donation, for myself, i am in same situation. no job, no money. :( But still big props on the 3 yr Anney.

  • also what do you think of the new yamaha kaossilaters?

  • I think it is quite selfish to ask for money for this.

  • well - my content here on YouTube will always remain free - just thinking about some other ways to make a little, not a lot, on the side

  • Maybe you could create video step-by-step guides/tutorials for the JET enrollment process because most people are often overwhelm when trying apply to the program

  • This idea seems great. I would definitely be an active user. lol

Also, If I did have a Pay-Pal, I would surely pay $12 annually. I hope this all works out for you =)

  • Happy 3rd Anniversary :D

  • thanks!

  • Well Jason i would definitely pay for extra content purely because you have so much knowledge about Japan, JET, etc and that you've put so much time and effort into all your vids that is think its well worth it! Also i think maybe you should charge people to look at their statements because its again, your time and advice your giving them. Just my opinion people. Good Luck on the website!

  • Hi jason,

I sent you a pm again about the website ;p

  • A Domain name (.com) costs $10 a year. You need to find webspace and build your own stuff (maybe wordpress) to keep it cheap.

I wouldn't pay for extra content, because there's alot free content on google.

But I could imaging that new jet prospects might be interested in hiring you as a consultant.

From Application (getting into jet) to living in japan, dealing with schools etc...

I.E indepth FAQ where you answer personal questions is definitly worth 20$/year.

You have 5 years of experience :)

  • hey Jason, you should check out squarespace. it has been quite well reviewed by the tech nerds, and it's really easy to use. You have to pay but there's a free trial.

  • Concerning the web-site you may want to start it as a blog. You can pay to have the blog with a particular doman name, and there may be services where they can make your blog look the way you want it. Yet updating the information in it would be the same as what a person does in blogger or the other services.

  • I dont think I would pay for the extra content on the website... but the reviewing essays is a great idea.

Again I don't need the service but a lot of people are always looking for JET essay help so you might have a nice niche market waiting....

  • Congrats on the anniversary. I also didn't want to accept the change in YouTube channels, but I am getting used to it.

  • In terms of Forums, there are a lot of free forum service providers (or used to be) such as invision board and such. Might want to check into that, cause you can just imbed it into your website. As for costs of websites, you pay for bandwidth. The more bandwidth you need the more it's going to cost you. For a text based website, you shouldn't need a lot of bandwidth. But if you plan on doing any downloadable content, your going to have to start paying quite a bit more.

  • I personally dont have a paypal... BUT I would find a way to get 12$ to you to be able to see private videos!( I know people who would pay for me) I also think its fair for you to ask for 5-10$ for reviewing essays. I think both these 'prices' or the range of the prices are VERY low. o.o so I think its almost TO low. (but that may just be me!)
