Did Debbie record this after her split with Eddie Fisher? Who left her for Elizabeth Taylor. Sounds so emotional. I'm afraid my favorite version is still Jim Reeves' but this is pretty amazing.
I've loved this song by Debbie since I was a young girl. Many people have covered it but no one sings it like Debbie Reynolds does. In my opinion the only other person to sing this song and do an absolutely great version of it is a group I came across here on You Tube called Jimmy Ward and The Tropicals. In my humble opinion these are the superior
Never thought that Debbie got enough credit for her magnificent voice. She sounds great on this one! Reminds me a little of Connie Francis in her phrasing.
Thank you.........thank you....thank you for all the wonderful songs you share, they remind me of my childhood, my dad always tune in to a radio station that played all these songs and as a kid i just listened and love them until now, so once again thank you.
Some songs are unique in capturing a particular feeling of hurt; in this case, that of hearing that someone you once loved has "moved on"....the title question sure applies then.
Debbie's version wasn't the first version. I'm not sure who had the first version but it was said Debbie heard Skeeter Davis's version of the song and took a liking to Davis's version, ultimately recording her own version.
a very sensual voice, indeed........

The best version is Nora Aunor's, the erstwhile SUPERSTAR both movies and pop in the Philippines. She's the Karen Carpenter sort of.

Did she sing this after her divorce with Eddie Fisher?

Yes, she did in fact. I have read that this reason may have helped this recording become a hit, as many felt bad for her.
