I think you've made a little error.

The LS7 produces 505hp at maximum. the M159 (the 6.2 liter AMG hand build N/A V8 engine) produces 572hp (in the Mercedes SLS).

That's primarily the main gripe I have with american engines. Sure they are big but they don't have the power to back up the engine size. E.g. The Normal Gen. 3 Viper has about as many hp per liter as the old Porsche 356 (356 has 130hp and 2L, the Viper has 500hp and 8.3L).

I'd still rather have the cutting edge of technology in my car instead of some cheaper alternatives. The body should be made of Carbotanium not Plastic thank you very much, the transmission should be a super fast double-clutch sequential box not a soapy autobox if you please, and the engine should be the best electronically controlled DOHC not some stoneage OHV, not to mention the suspension should be the most advanced racing coilovers not some leafsprings off an ox-cart.

And besides, for most people (not the typical rich poser) it's all about fun, and corvette is ideal for just that, manual gearbox for maximal involvement, reliability, ground clearence and comfort ideal for giving the car a beating which it deserves, not some garage where a rich guy just looks at his cars ( ferrari owners)

You don't have to get that much more expensive to get a sportscar like that. Except for the carbotanium the Wiesmann MF3 pretty much ticks all of the above points off (Sequential gearbox, racing coilovers, and a modern DOHC engine) being a smallish german roadster based on the engine, gearbox and running-gear of the BMW M3 E46. It's not that much more expensive (though I think importing one to the states could be problematic, oh well, at least I live in Europe).

To me the "new" generation of the Pontiac GTO has exquisite lines...no gaudy fender-flares...multiple crease lines, tack-on spoilers. The only thing possibly needing help on the GTO, is the front end fascia. The profile is perfect, the rear-end great, clean, modern without any busy looks.

So there are five arches running front to back across the whole hood, granted they "fade" but far too busy. A Japanese designer (1982 Supra) calling it "surface entertainment". The reasoning was in Japan one cannot easily see the entire car, just a small portion, such as it needs "entertainment".
