I really don't understand how people can say The Sex Pistols did it first when The Ramones played their first concert in 1974 and The Sex Pistols were around 3 years later. Add onto that the fact The Ramones lasted 22 years and The Sex Pistols lasted 2 years as a real band, not counting the getting back together every 5 or 6 years now, and they shouldn't be in the same conversation. I really like The Sex Pistols, but they only made 1 record and don't plan on making anymore. Huge talent gap.

Also remember the sex pistols wanted to appear and have like a sort of gypsie pirate image.They wanted to do what ever they wanted and wanted to show their fans they could and get away with it.They often performed other peoples songs without getting proper permission and often got away with it!So they wanted the title of we did it first and would steal it if they had to! Anyway the british pop era of the 60's often looked alot like the later punk era. The Brits really in my opinion did it first

They both claimed the invented punk rock.

The sex pistols claimed the invented a whole new music never ever done before,

While the ramones took a more rock and roll sound and reinvented it creating a whole new sound once again.

But surprisingly if you take some of the pistols' songs some do still sound like updated rock and roll. The argument between them was who was an actual creator of new punk music? Each group claimed it was them.

And fought over it.

The Sex Pistols were'nt even a band until they saw The Ramones play in a concert in england, The Ramones directly influenced the entire punk movement in england but The Sex Pistols took credit for it even though the Ramones clearly came first
