  • is this a diy transfer? it looks better then lots of commercial transfers!

  • film converted to vhs looks so... primal and real

  • If you got a better transfer...you would see a huge difference!

I can see the video range is very poor...the whites blow out...and I bet there is some detail thats going away..

  • Brilliant! There are no words to express the emotions that Tri-X conveys.

Just wondering if you did this all on auto exposure with the camera's internal metering system. It would be a big help to know that. Thanks!

  • @johnreagannumber1 I did use internal metering.

  • @KeyFilmation Thank you so much.

  • i love super 8!! which composer is this?

  • @kamikaze6744 Dvorak

  • so far all I've shot is plus x...I'm upgrading(?) to 16mm magazine film. We'll see if it works better.

  • at last some decent music on a film :)

  • Okay...were they processed as positives or negatives?

  • Both are reversal films, so you get a positive image you can project without having to make a film print, or flip it in telecine.

  • @IMPXANDER They were processed as reversals.

  • Interesting comparison.

Check out my Super 8mm film, I shot it on Plus-X and the ending is in Ektachrome 64T.

I shot the film on a Minolta D12

  • what? why did you loose so much detail due to telecine? Nice comparison, but I'm a bit worried if you loose that much detail if you transfer it. Did Yale screw up or what's the deal?

  • Please read the comment below.

  • do the highlights always look that blown out, or is it just the transfer, or exposure issues?

  • Actually, on the original transfer to video cassette, there is a TON more detail. When I transferred that onto my computer and compressed it for YouTube, the detail was lost in the really bright and dark areas.

  • Really useful comparison - thanks for posting

  • Where did you get the developing/processing done and who did the Telecine?

  • Yale Film & Video

  • I, too, would like to say thanks for providing this valuable comparison with these film stocks. The Tri-X shots had me ready to see a full-length movie, love the look and feel of this stock. I had no idea the Canon 512-XL could kick ass like this, showing it's not just all about the 814- and 1014-XL and XLS models. Thanks again!

  • Wow! Thank you so much! No Problem!

  • Who did the telecine?

  • Its my pleasure!

  • Looks pretty good.
