One thing I don't get about the Reavers...if they're supposed to be as crazy, berserk and insane as they all say though...how is it that they can do things like fly a ship, use weapons, and formulate tactics (Wash mentioning the grappler to hold Serenity in place, Zoe mentioning boarding)? Or is it that the Pax treatment on Miranda just drove the people who would be the Reavers *insane*, without necessarily diminishing their intelligence too much? New Firefly fan here, so please be patient...

@xxXsighXxx And if you read what happened on Miranda in the movie Serenity literally, there very well *could* be female Reavers...it said that Pax drove .01% of Miranda's three million colonists insane, transforming them into the original Reavers...it *didn't* say that the Pax made any distinction between male and female. And as the previous replier said, we probably just can't tell male from female apart any longer, due to all their self-mutilation.

this clip reminds me just how fucking awesome the season was. as someone else said, this is the way i liked my reavers too. unknown, ultra-scary, unstoppable force from the darkness. i didn't like the way river handled them in the movie like they were nothing...that was just pop-movie stuff for me. i did enjoy the movie right up to the point where jayne says he thought HE might survive

@therealmbassy The offhand way they explained the Reavers in the movie is a typical example of why I had problems with Serenity in general: They seemed to be cramming what should have been two or three seasons worth of storyline into a single movie. It all seemed very rushed and unsatisfying.

This show proved that the Nielsen system is botched. It registered 4 1/2 million on average so Fox pulled it, when in reality it had millions more watching it in homes that were not monitored. Nielsen only has 10,000 boxes in the entire US. These boxes are only in the 15 largest cities. No rural areas have them. So thats 10,000 homes monitored..... in a country with 114 MILLION homes! They get their number, then multiply it out to equal 114 million homes. Its way outdated.

This show died in the ratings, and one big reason they got to finish it with a movie, and that it continues to live in the culture, was that people made the DVD set a success.

Shot isn't reknown for its penetration (of, say, a ship's hull) but effective for a wide area of effect and tissue damage...which is the weapon you want when preparing for an attack by a large group of maniacs who plan to charge you.

We'll pop in and out and be back on the ship in time for tea and cannibalism.

@Zellig Actually you're not that far off, in Serenity when the Serenity is flying through Reaver space and picking up transmissions you can hear a sophisticated series of shrieks and wails coming from the Reaver ships that could, in fact be dialogue. I believe that Reavers have a lot of their sentience remaining, but when they see humans they go into a crazed frenzy.

@TheKray11 XD I assumed the shrieks were just living humans being horrifically tortured. I think we do have a point though, because in spite of what sounds like being totally 'chaotic evil' they seems to be fine working together and with each other. Even when they fly into Reaver space they don't see Reaver ships attacking and mutilating one another. They definitely coordinate and stick together. I don't think in the movie they're ever shown even hurting each other.
