One correction I'll make, not all stereotypes are negative. Here is a partial list of positive stereotypes.

All native Americans environmentalists

All black men large penises

All french are romantic

All Italians are great lovers

All gay men are stylish and amazing dancers

All women are sensitive

The problem with positive stereotypes is that we seems to think that making positive assumptions about people we don't know is somehow fine.
