support.microsoft(dot)com/kb/315223: Window's official responce to the problem, personaly, I'm a bit confused by them, but you can try and decypher the computer language too. I have this problem still and am using a Dell XPS M1710.
I got this problem except that it sends me directly to the blue screen, i mean it deosnt even give it a chance to show anything else......can anyone help
I have this same problem, But get this. Only with windows! which sucks since i got the Laptop to play games on the go.
If i install Ubuntu on my laptop i dont get this error ever.
I am thinking about buying a new warranty on my laptop and sending it back to Dell. but from what i hear even then they don't fix it they just replace parts and send it back.
this is a real generic message of error, in this situation I knew the problems related to VGA card in inspiron 9400, and so I repair at first the videocard.
You can use at first a program like memtest86 to test ram (a test of 5 or 6 hour ), check your hard disk with windows utility (defrag etc..) and check if your video card is part of the faulty vga card that nvidia recall. if you see these message error only saltuary check if the coolers are free from dust, could be also an overheat problem
@iperpaolo No offence, but these kind of oven trick, towel trick, heat circulation tricks are mental. Absolutely mental. They may allow the device to work temporarily, but they will reduce the life of the device by a lot. While you may reduce some impurities that appear in the solder by doing these mad tricks, you'll reduce the life of the components as they will expand beyond their threshold. Computers are prebuilt with thresholds to stop components expanding too much. Mad mad mad.
Do you prefer a working Notebook or a Broken notebook ?
the video card was broken, out of warranty, and the notebook was useless without a videocard.
The oven trick of course is not a procedure created in most advanced Lab, it is only a trick, But after this trick the videocard works ! and It works for years with heavy 3d software. This is not mental, this is a fact.
@iperpaolo Maybe so, but you'll have drastically reduced the life of the graphics card, the GPU etc. You could have just bought a different graphics card. It ain't rocket science.
I can't buy a new graphic card, 7900 series for dell is no more in production and you will have the same problems with used or refurbished cards.
But, can we use a bit of logic ? you can have a working Videocard NOW and for FREE, or you can comtemplate your perfect GPU chip on a broken and useless videocard. the alternative is an ati x1300, a very low level card.

It is really motherboard failure. But you can solve it. First of all, go to Setup and disable all USB ports one by one. Try it! :)
