  • I would take the Vette. I've driven a 99' ACR and was let down. The car was very unpredictable. I didn't feel connected to the car, which is bad thing driving a 437rwhp car to it's limits. Fit & finish is horrible. The driving position sucked. The experience just wasn't good. I drove it a 2nd time and pretty much had the same feelings. The only thing it has on a Vette is looks. I know they've made improvements with the SRT-10, but it's still going to have the same mannerisms & fit & finish.

  • the difference will be at limit or near limit where teh Z06 will walk away. They way you are driving it wouldnt matter. Z06 you can drive daily, try that with a viper. Try a long drive in a viper vs a z06, I mean >500miles.

  • I guess so but ACR and ZR1 are still stock with similar price and performance. If you want to go track cars, I would say compare ACR to a Pratt & Miller C6RS but that wouldn't end well for the Viper at all. My honest opinion is that the Corvette is a far superior car but I like to keep the comparison biased towards the other competition rather than the vette so that nobody can bitch about lack of fairness when they lose (which they usually do).

  • dude...this is the Z06 vs the gen 3 viper...so they both have the same power. so the Viper is faster. the 600hp viper just wrecks the z06 in everyway shape or form. The ACR Viper (which costs less than the ZR1) will DESTROY the ZR1...there's no comparison. the ACR is a street GT car while the ZR1 is a pretty boy.

  • stock for stock the z06 is almost even with the ford gt in the quater. fastest stock times for both are 11.2 seconds. ford gt has a slightly higher top speed. but the z06 will beat the gt on several tracks. the z06 is also cost way less. there are vids of a z06 killing a gt with just and intake that only cost $500 and takes maybe 10 min to install. the ford gt is clearly over priced from a preformance stand point.

  • well another thing is, is that a corvette has the worst ride i have ever been in. i dont know about a zo6 but my dads friend has a vette and let me drive it. i swear u can feel ever bump in the road. going over the lane dividers felt like pot holes. ive never driven a Gt but im sure its not as bad as the vette. and yes, i would never own a viper unless it was given to me for free. for havin that big of an engine and only gettin 510hp outa it is sad. espicaly with no traciton control.

  • I like them both. The ZO6 is more "complete" for lack of a better term, and is really more the gentlemans race-car. The viper is definitely more in your face but has fewer creature-comforts and gets SCARY in anything other than a straight line because the tires let go (laterally) all at once rather than progressively like with the vette. It could be argued that the Viper has more perfect balance, but I'd rather have a little oversteer.

  • Both amazing cars... personally I think the Corvette is more of an engineering marvel... they made something comparable to the SRT-10 for 30,000 quid less and something requiring less power to get it to go as fast as a v-10 viper. But like I said, both are staggering supercars.

However americans have been beating them at their own game for some time now. From the GT40 to the Saleen S7, then the Viper all dominated Le Mans and the viper was finally banned. Now with the new C6Z06 was when GM truly stepped up as a world class competetor with the C6-R dominating every Le mans circuit it races in.

  • In The late 1980's Corvette was thriving & taking all of the titles. Porsche, Lotus and many other competitors couldn't touch the Corvette so they got together and banned the Corvette from competing against them.. It didn't matter what the series was called, Playboy Challenge, Showroom Stock GT or Escort GT Endurance, Corvettes were unbeatable. Literally. They won every race they entered, with the only competition coming from among the Corvette entrants.

The viper was the first american car after the ford GT40 to win Le Mans that was a car truly restricted after 3 years of domination they were restricted from 800hp/10throttle bodies/2500lbs to 520hp/2throttle bodies at 40% restriction and 3200lbs and they still dominated LE mans for 2 years and were banned.

  • Lol thats pretty funny cause the z06 is faster than both those cars is made of carbon fiber, and aluminum. And its still 70k. Wait for the SS when the S/C it europe wont know what that red bolt of lightning was that just went roaring by.

  • The corvette SS/blue devil/zr-1 wont be a track car. But a 1/4 mile car, an S/C will give them too many problems on a road course, from its small powerband to cooling problems.

  • Your joking right? Ever since the viper hit the market it not only was the fastest american sports car but the fastest car under 100k beaten out the corvette on every level of performance. Your confused if you dont think the viper is the corvettes main rival in the market.

  • The viper is definitely one of its rivals. But GM never focused on taking them down do to their lack of refinement. Let me clear something up. We are talking about two different times. the viper was not even around when the Vette was dominating in the 80's and when it did come on to the seen " with the rt/10 @ 400 hp "it was a bit faster than the 375Hp ZR-1" "however the 94 405 Hp ZR-1 with ABS & ASR was a different story.

  • So technically the viper did not become a Vette killer till 1996 when they put out the

    450HP GTS. Which corvette had no answer to since they stopped production of the ZR-1 in 95 & the most powerful thing they had was the Grand sport (a grossly underrated 330 hp that was more in the range of 350-380hp modified LT1.)

  • It was not until 01 when corvette put out the 385Hp Z06 & 02 whith the 405Hp Z06 that they became competitive again. which was around the same time the GTS-R was dominating Le mans. But guess who their only rival was? Not Ferrari, not Bmw, not Porsche, it was the Vette. The viper may have won 3 years in a row but they took a few losses to the Vette. And that's why Chrysler pulled out. Since It was apparent that the corvette was catching up with each race.

  • Just so you know. GM did make a car once back in the 90s to kill the Viper. They named it the ZR-1 SS. The "SS" stood for Snake Skinner & it had performance numbers very close to the current Z06. But due to the lack of things like an AC, Power windows, and all the other creature comforts almost most all modern day cars had at $60K (Except the viper at the time) They scratched the project.

  • Correction, they made that car in the late 80's. That's why they settled with the 405 hp ZR-1 with run flats, ABS, ASR, Delco Bose sound system, Adjustable suspension and sport power seats as a compromise. Power is nice but power windows are nice too.

  • Actually they didnt quit because of the vette they pulled out simply because every year they raced more restrictions were placed on them unlike the new C6-R which has virtually no restrictions. The viper went from a 2400lb 800HP, 10 throttle body tube chassis race car to a 3200lb, 520hp,2 throttle bodies at 40% restrictions production car. They were then banned in 2002 until they once again restricted themselves which is why chrysler pulled out. And they won 5 years straight 1997-2002

  • The ZR-1 on the track or in the 1/4mile may have been close to the RT/10 but it still was slower on both counts. As for lack of refinement its two different cars, the viper is one of the last true driver cars without computer aided anything. Like the Mclaren F1, Enzo (except its traction control) are all race cars built for the streets while the corvette ZR-1 like porsches are street cars built for the tracks once again your right its two different cars.

  • Unlike the ZR-1 which needed a tire change to catch the Viper There was a car Chevy offered that could take the Viper out the door. It was production option (RPO B2K) (AKA) the twin turbo Callaway Corvette. B2K's from 1987 produced 345hp / 450 ft•lbs of torque and by 1991 were up to 450 hp with 613 ft•lbs of torque using the old L98 engine, a more aerodynamic body & less weight than the ZR-1. One could easily call these cars "Viper Slayers."

  • You should look up the carbon concepts from every year, concepts mean nothing if they dont hit the road Dodge has come up with dozens of vipers that would beat the callaway covette in every aspect. But it never reached production simply because there was never a need for them the viper was already at the top of its game.
