  • MADE IN CHINA

  • A traditional STYLE not an actual traditional katana, anyone who can't tell the difference has never seen a real katana.

  • is it just me or does it look like a collector peice made out of stainless steel.

  • made in taiwan

  • what a rubbish video

  • I might be in the market for a Japanese style sword (Katana or Tachi) and I wouldn't care if it was forged from Tamahagane. I would care if it could cut and keep on cutting during the Zombie Apocalypse or whatever. I'd say your swords are as good if not better than the mass produced factory "Shin-Gunto" swords that were supplied to the Imperial Japanese Army during World War 2.

  • dis i da one i wanted but cost so much !

  • A Ha!! Choppy Chop !!! Blilliant wideo of a $50.00 choppy chop, velly goood for choppy off head. ah so..

  • The yihada looks real enough, as does the hamon. But the fittings look subpar. Great blade, but I'd change the fittings.

  • katana?

  • Is it full tang

  • it is forged with tamahagane?

  • Nope, just modern steel billets

  • is it just me or does the hamon look unreal? O_o it's too perfect, the waves should usually be completely different lengths, while this one has almost perfect lengths for each wave...

  • Thanks for pointing that out. I was thinking the same thing myself.

  • @AbsoluteZero98

Notice in the video description it doesn't say "differentially hardened"...that means it's either wire brush and will dissappear when polished or it's acid etched.

  • It seems to me that at 1:08 you can see they're not perfect at all... At least I think the swordsmith tried to make them all the same length, but they miss by milimeters. But that's my opinion :)

  • thanks

    nice video for masturbation )

  • "ventilyator", dont worry, there is help to get!!

  • Wow, now that's a butcher's knife! hahahaha. i personally don't like deadly weapons at home. probably better if you donate it to a museum - where lots of people would appreciate the artwork for generations to come. but that's my opinion.

  • people are the most dangerous not the weapon..

  • you say guns don't kill people people kill people, well i think the guns help because if you just stood there and yelled BANG you wouldn't kill very many people

  • well why waste my breath when i could just run over and strangle the life out of you?

  • The gun doesn't get and pull the trigger its self...Do you honestly think that taking everyones gun is gonna stop the real criminals from getting them?

  • All depends how the person wields the weapon. But yeah essentialy, humans are worse then animals.

  • @littlebeast7 People with weapons are even worse...

  • @arthmyx A woman driving a car on her cell phone is more dangerous than an sword, and an Asian teenage girl driving while on her phone is the most dangerous thing on earth.

  • @helicrashpro Lol PREACH IT!

Plus the Asian teenage girl is a distraction...I think I gotta put it on my insurance.

  • The Huanuo (Chinese) forge puts out some hit or miss stuff. the problem is they forge swords for a bunch of different companies (just google katana, you will see wich ones) and they are not the greatest quality. What makes matters worse is the 'furniture'. The handle on that thing is made of cheap wood forced onto the nakago, wrapped with shoe-lace that passes for ito and half the time the handle is cracked and busted inside. Take one apart and you will see bamboo slivers slide out.

  • I don't mind ordering one ... but i'm not from the States and I could get into alot of trouble ... but other than that I'm desparately trying to get one of those katanas

  • I heard that modern Japanese samurai sword was a copy cat of Ancient Tang's sword!?.

  • It is true that most modern day Katana are not even made in Japan anymore although there are still active forges in Japan. Just need to know where to look. Some even have websites and will create a customs sword at your request for a price. 400 USD minimum. And typically take no less than a month to make it for you. Any real Katana will take AT LEAST a month to make by hand and is yes it will most likely have the craftsmans mark on it somewhere.

  • Thanks for the input! I don't see any link, though. Anyway, where did you get your sword?

How do you feel about modern swords? I have a hanwei practical plus elite, a cheness kaze and a ryumon dragon and they all cut exceptionally well. What do you think about these kinds of swords?

  • A lot of ignorant comments here. Most modern japanese swords are made in China. This is nothing new. Hanwei, Cheness and Ryumon swords are all made in Chinese forges.

This sword has nice fittings and the steel has a visible hada, which means it is actually folded. The hamon looks fake, which means the steel was not differentially hardened, rather through hardened.

Most likely this sword is an excellent sword for tameshigiri, but it is impossible to be sure without actually using it.

  • I have been practising Kendo for years and have a passion for katanas. I can tell you this one is not a good one. Like many of the new "handmade" katanas you find on the market, you can see the carbon mixed with the iron is only located on one part of the sword, which makes it less resistant. Besides, all the great handmade katanas in Japan wear the signature of their creator on it, just like mine.

So I guess you are right about the origin of this one :D .

  • I'm not sure I agree with you. I don't think it's possible to see where the carbon is in the steel. If you can point me to some resources that would explain that, that would be great. I've always understood that the carbon is in the ore to begin with. Can you point me to a source which contradicts this?

Where did you get your sword? I can't find an actual Japanese made sword, period. They're all Chinese, American or European unless they're the heirloom type.

  • The carbon should be mostly on the surface of it to provide flexibility without losing its strengh. I am sorry I am french, I know a lot about japanese swords, but I don't have any english source. This is a link to a National Geographic reportage about handmade japanese swords. It is in french, but you can mute it and still understand a lot. Please focuse your attention on the steel you will see the difference.

  • can you tell me plesae where you got your sword? or, from whom?

    thanks.

  • Hey man...is kendo what is needed to learn on how to use a samurai sword?

Im interested in learning kendo. What do you learn from kendo??

  • you would want to learn iaido

  • Take up Iaido to learn the finer points of using the Katana, or maybe Kenjitsu. Take up Kendo to exlpore the functionality of the Katana.

  • no your wrong Kendo is a Japanese style of fencing and it doesn't specialize on proper use of katana instead it just show basic Katana use. Also, Kendo has only one style.

There is an art that specialize on Katana use. I forgot the exact name of it but it's here in Youtube. search it

  • well kendo is with wooden sticks like in the last samurai but boudo is the old art of the sword

  • MORON KENJUTSU =SWORD KENDO= SHINAI

  • Kendo means " the way of the sword " you tell us what u learn from kendo now....

  • It takes alot of practice, commitment and self discipline,Kendo is just a style, someone had to invent it.If you practice and do your own thing ,you may come up with your own style and have people seaking you out as a teacher in the years to come, good luck.

  • this is chinease sword

low quality, not beautiful, just fake

  • this katana has no soul

  • This katana is made in Korea but it is very well made, i have no problem with nationality if the product is good all is ok.

  • and koreans had their own version of a katana like sword, iirc their sword was broader than the katana

  • The swords are identical. The Korean and Japanese cultures have borrowed a lot from one another, and in the case of martial arts almost all korean martial arts are borrowed from Japanese ones.

  • you can always tell where a chav lives in the uk they have theese in there windows lol

  • whats with the alien music?

  • Nice oral music :>

  • I laughed when I heard it xD I had my volume AT MAX :o

  • ;DDD

  • hmm it seems to me alot of people think they know what they are talking about

  • I would have to say it is junk. The hamon is obviously wire wheel. Looks good, but not functional.

  • i agree. this is a wall hanger, nothign else.

  • May be. The functionality of the blade does not depend on the hamon. It depends on the amount of carbon in the blade, as far as I know.

  • Looks like stainless steel - machine sharpened...

and they should have shown the other side of the blade where the guard meets the blade. I bet there is a "made in China" stamp on it.

  • wat is die rot herrie man?! wel mooi zwaard...

  • nice sword; music sux

  • Comment removed

  • @tiloke hehehe hahahaha!

  • that music is goind to drive me crazy.

  • Hey, that's the new music of the future! A hit song! HA! I think it was supposed to be talking but it somehow got screwed up.

  • Looks like it's made in the west maybe?

    Nice though.

Music really wasn't nice though ...

  • It was music? I thought it was just a bunch of retarded noises.

  • nice music

  • kinda creepy music....or sounds...

  • im 16 and i have 2 katanas, ninja stars and 2 kendo katanas :o

  • so what? fuck you

  • omfg its japanese not china;/

  • Since many of you guys only know very little about Chinese history, you only know the past 50 years,I suggest that you should do some researches on ancient China and stop saying Chinese swords are bad.

  • ur just sad japan is better then you :P

  • vivalachina its not chinese its japanese u moron so get a life go japan!!! now!!!!

  • Japanese katana is just a copy of the Chinese Tang Tao.Maybe many of you don't know what is a Tang Tao,it is a kind of Chinese sabor made in Tang Dynasty.Don't tell me that Tang Tao is a cheap and bad sabor, because ancient Chinese people made good stuffs.

  • You likely mean a "Ti Tang Tao", which is a double edged broad sword, while the Katana is a single edged curved sword.

  • It might of been a copy to begin with, but the japanese did what they do best. They found an idea, and elevated it to near perfection.

    Katana > all swords

  • well the katana is a great weapon but it is foolish to say that it is better than all other swords. it is all in how they are used and what armor your opponent was wearing that makes any weapon more/less effective completely unarmored, the europian rapier is more than effective for its speed. with full plate on a katana is almost useless being a mostly slashing weapon. the katana is just a great weapon due to its quality and hyperbolic curve. it suited its use perfect.

  • Actually the damascus steel scimitars were near to perfection, do not get your "facts" from anime. Fool.

  • Hey, it was once a fact that the earth is flat...

Also, do you even lnow what a katana is? What about Jin tachi and No Dachi and the wakazashi all that fun stuff? They're pretty much the same; only minor differnces, you should be saying samurai sword.

  • Please, all those variations are crap compared to the katana. Although the wakizashi is great in very close combat.

  • no.

  • My facts are based upon the fact that a Japanese sword is composed of two different types of metal, it have a curve that adds greatly to the cutting power behind the blade, and also around the fact of how Japanese culture operated in that era as well; since everything the Japanese did was elevated to an art worth perfecting, I'm fairly confident in saying that a Katana is superior.

I didn't list wakizashi, tanto, tachi, daito, odachi, etc. simply because there's tons of them.

  • You don't know what you're talking about, Japanese swords aren't made of "two different types of metal" they're made of steel (iron and carbon) with anywhere from %0.25 to %1.20 carbon, the hamon is made by selectively hardening, but it's still steel.

  • Also, the sword in the video isn't of Japanese origin.

  • Is this the bugei wave katana? looks kind of similar.

  • these sword take at least a year to make the in the beginning when it said to sword was folded they actually to do that the have to fold it at least 100 times!! just to get that ultimate sharpness at least enough to cut a person in half..i want a real version of a samurai sword i just got a backward blade very cool though (its backside is the front side of blade) my swords blood red

  • No the new law is aimed at imitation /movie /fantasy swords as gangs are useing them to fight. genuine collectors and martial artists are exempt as far as i know. i own a £230 Rymon hand forged sword made from AISI 1060 High carbon steel, 58HRC on the edge and 45HRC on the spine, full signed tang and certificate of authenticity. ray skin and Japanese cotton on the handle with 2 steel handle ornaments. sharp. piano black saya, made in lonquan. this sword looks crap, fake hamon and copper fittings.

  • and allot of swords are made in the lonquan forge in china as they have good steel. some names to look for in sword makers are as follows : Paul Chen, Han Wei and Rymon. all from the lonquan forge in china. paul chen is the most know of the 3 but there all based in the same town (lonquan)search for them in wikipedia it has all sorts of info on the forge its quite interesting! and most importantly research before you consider buying any sword! and remember they are NOT toys or for immature kids!

  • its funny im 13 and i have 2 swords :)

  • wow. me too.

  • haha, £230. Try £1000 and we're talking.

  • haha, if you thought that sword looks like crap, then you should see the shit Tanto i bought for 15$ that has a blunt edge. it sucks. but man, i really want to buy a real, traditionally froged and everything. i guess your katana is really sweet.

  • nope but y need a licence and u have to be 21

  • u dont need a licence. im only 13 and i bought 2 swords.

  • I have a samurai sword over 500 years old and it is incredibly sharp.Never in the 35 years I have owned it has any one sharpened it.My Japanese doctor said the writing under the handle is to old for him to read and he is from Japan.Mine was a world war two souvenir brought back by some soldier.

  • yo, did he say it was written in kanji? if so you can look for a dictionary... being over five hundred years old it probably has names of testers on it... as in prisoners that had their lims cut off to test its sharpness...

  • "souvenir" huh? Sure

  • Chinese?BLADE??

  • If they only fold the carbon-steel twice, as I suspect, it must contain a high level of carbon (> 0.7%) so this sword blade must be very soft metal. Not meant for fighting/cutting.Unless, of course the % of carbon is controlled by chemically instead of the real japanese soulsmithing traditional way:the process of folding tamahagane 10 to 15 times (wich results in loss of up to 50% of the initial carbon-steel tamahagane mass). Thus, I would'nt call it a japanese samourai sword.

  • not good

  • damned noisy sound!!!

  • Yeah! Jeez...annoying as hell...

  • fuck !! it's sothing I must own

  • I would hate to be run through with that on a cold Japanese winter morning after having defied the shogunate by making forbidden pottery art objects and having just been reunited with the son I never new I had.

  • best comment on youtube, ever.

  • Well, It seem here are many comments talked on the weight of KATANA. Ordinal sized Katana weighs in general,900g - 1100g.

these weight is incidentally, quite similar to that of the baseball-bat.

The longest/largest Katana used in 11th. century I've ever seen in the museum weigh 1800g which seem very hard to handle by a hand.

  • Actually, some of the swords that existed in feudal times were of HUGE length, sometimes up to 11 feet in length, known as O-dachi, these blades were massive, and their purpose was mainly unknown, blades of such length are very hard to use and therefore would be more or less useless on the battlefield (dont believe me, go try using an 337cm sword (total length).)

  • Audio sounds like single celled organisms having sex.

  • lOl

  • cool

  • dude you know what that sounds like.now thats some hard core shit. does sound strange though

  • Do They Even Have Sex???

    LOL

  • lol

  • Beautiful hamon. Of what material is the tsuba made? It's unusual.

  • traditionally, iron, that particular tsuba? probably steel? Most likely painted black

  • i like my kikishio better. but its still a beutiful looking blade

  • Miyamoto Mushashi(Japanese Sword Saint) and Bokuden Tsukahara(Japanese Undefeated Swordsmen Of All Time),umm sori for not informing u all,Musashi lose one time b4.Those two swordsmen once said b4 a good katana blade can be judged by its artistic making, and which metal is from to make the blade and its famous user and history background(story which is about this katana) and a good name and quality and its balance and harmony to achieve a greater standard when fighting with enemies.

  • wow very nice ^,.,^. u truly know ur blades

  • ok wait wtf?

  • which one are you?

  • ohh so i get it, ur a total nerd.

  • Hmm the swords tsuba dosent look that good

but the quality seems pretty good

But i like My sword better =)

  • i wanna buy one

  • The sword is OK...the BG music(?) sucks.

  • there is something Wrong with the audio or something.

  • The BG-music was DAMN annoying. >__>

  • the tsuba isnt so great

  • the art is lost, blacksmith's cannot make the same Samuria sword as there ancestors made.

  • False! There are still Japanese sword smiths who's family have been forging for over 800 years. Japan no longer makes Sharp Swords but the are of the same quality. these newer swords go for about 16-30,000 dollars they have all the potential of being sharpened.

  • doesnt make sharp swords? are you crazy? You can buy swords from Japan all the time. There are over 250 active smiths licensed with the Japanese Swordsmith Association, the top 10 or 12 are known as Mukansa Level smiths who are considered to be the best smiths working at the time. They're only exceeded by the Ningen Kokuho, Living Legends, of which there are two, currently. All swords that leave Japan have to be registed with the Japanese Cultural Affairs Bureau.

  • case in point, Mukansa Level Smith, Yoshihara Yoshindo, who played a cameo in "The Last Samurai" as the village smith. While on set, he actually forged the sword that is given to Tom Cruise at the end of the movie.

  • Samurai sword only applies to a katana if it is owned by samurai. Wakizashi, the smaller second sword, was traditionally owned and worn ONLY by the samurai. Lots of Japanese warriors that weren't samurai had katana.

  • it depended on the time period. Throughtout history there were many bans placed on the carrying of weapons. It wasnt always certain who carried what length sword, what WAS known was the carrying of the Daisho was generally accepted as something ONLY the samurai wore. But this changed throughout time. During the Bakumatsu for instance, many people carried swords. As the Shogunate began to break apart after Perry's visit to Japan. Its peace keeping methods along the byways began to break down.

  • Well, the Nihontou, as its proper name is, was carried by many people and warriors throughout history. Samurai means "one who serves" strictly speaking is a description of their post. During Hideyoshi's time, he banned the peasentry from owning weapons in fear one would rise up and take the country from him. Later, in 1876 the Haitorei Edict was imposed which banned the wearing of swords altogether. So, while for the most part, wearing two swords meant you were bushi, it didnt ALWAYS mean that.

  • Nihonto (as far as I know there is no long 'O') is collectively any sword made in Japan. Nihon = Japan; To = sword. (maybe usage is for only traditional swords these days?) Wakizashi reference was regarding the daisho pairing.

My post could reflect this thought: Most people posting on here seem to think that in ancient Japan there were only samurai and ninja. 'Japanese' doesn't always equate to 'samurai' or 'ninja' people!

  • And on a wooden sword side note, it's not 'bokken', it's bokuto.

  • well, it can be refered to as both, strictly speaking, Bokuto, means "Wood Sword" as the Kanji used speak for themselves.

  • ni nen mae watashi wa nihonjin wo aimashita. kendoka deshita. Didn't understand when I asked her about 'bokken'. I explained it as wooden practice sword and she responded with "Ah, bokuto."

  • well they both mean essentially the same thing so, either one is appropriate, although the more common term IS bokken.

  • Well, typically, modern swords are refered to as "Shinken" or live swords, Generally historical swords fall under the period when they were made, Koto, Showato, Gendaito, etc.

But yeah, there were many different types of people, from the Ainu in Hokkaido, to the Court Nobles. Samurai were of noble birth, in fact you had to be born a samurai, you couldnt just become one, although you COULD be adopted into a Buke. There were many different life styles in Japan, Ronin, Watari Kachi, farmers etc.

  • Tō (刀) takes a long ō... - Bokken (木剣):wood saber - Bokutō (木刀):wood sword/saber. - Suburitō (素振り刀):a long heavy blade bokken - Shinai (竹刀):a bamboo sword - Iaitō (居合い刀):practice sword;unsharpened - Shinken (真剣):a real (sharpened) sabrer. - Katana (刀)/Nihontō (日本刀):katana/japanese sword - Wakizashi (脇差):short katana - Tantō (短刀):knife like katana - Daishō (大小):a set of 2 assorted swords : a long sword:daitō (大刀), and a short sword:shōtō (小刀). Usually, a katana (刀) and a wakizashi (脇差)
  • there is a pbs episode of NOVA, the science program, titled "Secrets of the Samurai Sword" and if anybody wants a basic education on this, it is provided. if anybody knows where there is a podcast, etc. of this show, please post it here, as hard to find it on the pbs network currently.

  • what the fuck is up with the sound that was probably the worst sounding shit i have ever heard......you are rude!

  • that kind of sword can cut your head of like if it was butter

  • if u can move faster then light it would cut then make u bleed lol

  • what's with the stupid sounds? That's really annoying

  • your sword may be a good blade but its a fake wire brush hamon no real clay hamon has ever looked like that

  • I dunno man, check out 1:11 looks an awful lot like its authentic..

did you happen to get this blade on ebay? I've seen it before.. I think

  • It is real actually. It is just a counter polishing method and the angle of the camera. I know it looks that way, but it really isn't. It just has to be polished a little more is all.

  • i can hear dead people

  • This one's not a katana, it's a Wushi Wu. The Wushi Wu is a secret term known only to the loyal legions of Lymar Provence in the south eastern region. My grandfather crafted this Wushi Wu in our basement. It could cut through any katana.

  • cool ;] are you japanese by any chance? konichua XD

  • OMFG wht is with ur sound its sooo annoying. Nice katana tho

  • its still samurai swords, katana just means long sword

  • it looks good

  • hmm....ive seen quite alot of katana's but it weighed sort of light...maybe its because is a copy?

  • dont be lealous~

  • best irritant geluid

  • How much would you expect to have to pay for a Real Modern Made Samurai Sword?

  • 3,560 ponds, about 4,230 dollars

    this sword is beautiful!

and it deserves sum respect and admiriation

    respect the great samurai's

  • you fool a fake katana is disgracefull!!!!!!!! it is the art in which they make the sword and commponents that make a real katana shark strong and beautiful, hand made in the traditional japanese way!!!!!

  • The real Japanese
