I do remember these commercials from years ago. It used to tick us Canadians off that Bea (American) was doing commercials for Shopper's Drug Mart (Canadian company) ... why not get a Canadian to do them? Bea didn't need the money or publicity, that is for sure.
And you may buy Gift cards at the store, pay for it, with the chance this Gift card is empty. At a scale from 1 to 10 customer service is a1 - or worst. Surprise your loved one with a empty Shoppers drug mart Gift card! A personel story.
@1joker88 True, but remember that commercial was a simple, quaint little sit-down-and-discuss-the-pizza commercial, not a fly-around-the-world-as-a-makeshift-superhero commercial.
I guess 'The Golden Girls' was big there too, so they had her do these commercials. She was from New York. If only the show was still on in Canada, but broadcast rules are strict on how many networks can be on air and how much foreign content the y can have.
@JohnSposato2 well golden girls was well liked in many countrys, theres a premium (i think)channel that still shows the golden girls in canada a couple times a day, oddly enough shoppers doesnt do tv ads anymore,
Once again, a Canadian store feels it has to use an American celebrity in its ads, because there's no Canadian celebrity who's famous enough. This is almost as irritating as Sprint Canada's use of Candice Bergen in its commercials.
You shouldn't feel that way. Bea Arthur is a riot, and I love her! Now if you want to talk irritating, it's Leeza Gibbon's commercials promoting a Toronto radio station, I think it was 97.3
The 97.3 EZ-Rock spot was produced by a Boston company called Waverly Motion Pictures. You see those same spots promo-ing radio stations of similar formats coast-to-coast in nearly both our countries. Of course, none are as good as the promo they did for WBZ which was original... and local.
Canadian drug stores are a bit different than US. You can't buy a pack of smokes in there, but you can get codine pills OTC, and very cheap. Terrific place to visit until the Loonie trumped the Greenback. Oy!
Depends on the province you live in. In Ontario, we cannot sell cigarettes in pharmacies. I believe that most provinces now have a cigarette-sale-ban in drug stores, as early as six or seven years ago, only ON, PQ, NS and NB had bans.
we all miss you Queen Bea! :) Love the WHOOPPEE part ha ha!

Well if you remember, Dorothy was not a very good actress in the pizza commercial she tried to do with her mother...

Is Bea Arthur Canadian?
And why is it that Shoppers Drug Mart no longer do commercials?

bea arthur is internationally famous - perhaps that's why she's asked to do things like this in countries other than her home?
