He's VERY under-rated, but alas so is RUSH when you consider the friggin Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tapped Madonna...and yet the world's finest Drummer (Bar None), the world's finest Bassist (Bar None) and this very under-rated guitarist are in Top 5 with the Beatles and Stones in terms of Gold and Platinum Records. I think Rush was hard rock until the early/mid 80s. They progressed (no pun intended) from hard rock to progressive as they reached their peak (Moving Pictures).

Regarding UpstairsMaid vs. caspersmiths: it appears that the band's lyrics escape the maid. It's ironic that Rush has often been panned due to their (Peart's) objectivist libertarian lyrics and that is probably the reason for being blacklisted from the Hall of Fame.

Yes I have seen that. The story is he got a bit too busy with his wife and his finger got jammed in the bedspring or something like that. And ya, he plays that show and the finger just looks horrible.

I saw them on the "Farewell to Kings" tour. He appeared to be a marionette onstage...as if he was being held up and executing his guitar playing while under the control of some unseen force; he was the definition of poise, grace, skill and beauty. It was a trip I will remember always

He's VERY under-rated, but alas so is RUSH when you consider the friggin Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tapped Madonna...and yet the world's finest Drummer (Bar None), the world's finest Bassist (Bar None) and this very under-rated guitarist are in Top 5 with the Beatles and Stones in terms of Gold and Platinum Records. Not to mention the integrity of Peart's lyrics. I also am push 60 and these guys are still my favorite band.

@burnsmay In my opinion Yes is the best progressive band ever.
I think Rush was hard rock until the early/mid 80s. They progressed (no pun intended) from hard rock to progressive as they reached their peak (Moving Pictures).

@burnsmay The RNR HOF is made up of very conceited idiots that think Madonna is deserving of HOF status, and other poor excuses of performers are.. Rush, Iron Maiden, and The Runaways deserve to be in just based on their contributions to music, the innovations, and how they changed the landscape. Even KISS is not even in (I'm not a fan, but still).

@torqueinc Im with everyone else, Neil Peart is ultimately my favourite percussionist and a technical genius, but it all comes down to skill, yeah hes got it but hes coming after a generation of jazz and blues where his endurance could be easily matched by Buddy Rich and others.

Regarding UpstairsMaid vs. caspersmiths: it appears that the band's lyrics escape the maid. It's ironic that Rush has often been panned due to their (Peart's) objectivist libertarian lyrics and that is probably the reason for being blacklisted from the Hall of Fame.
Regarding canadaguy: there are probably better guitar players in the technical sense, but, who cares?
Otherwise: completely agree with midge2112.

That's because talent took a back seat along time.........it's how much 'cheese' you can help a record company sell. If you can't help a pimple cream sponsor sell enough product, then you don't get played. The Doobie Bros. aren't in the R&R.H.O.F. but Madonna made it in didn't she....a fucking pop singer. The Hall of Fame is a joke. Hell..Kid Rock will be inducted before the Doobie Bros. will in this day and age.

Very good points. I would pay out the ASS to get a lesson from Alex Lifeson, and I dont even actually play guitar! (Bassist... Sorta) Im pretty sure if Geddy Lee was giving lessons they'd cost a fortune and I'd have no quams with dishing out whatever cash he was asking for. However in this case, Alex isnt asking for money. As u said, the vid co. is! So Like everyone in the above comments is thinking (And saying): Go Away, BlueTooth. Just go away.
