It is not too bad while your riding it. You smell like gas after you have been riding it. The noise is way worse than the smell. I thought about making an ehaust pipe for it with a little muffler.
I am selling this bike now for $350 on craigslist in the Denver CO area. Let me know if you want it. If there is a lot of competition I might give it to the highest bidder. Thanks.
nice idear me and my friend are saveing up for a kit, my friend has to buy it 1st because it might not fit in my frame so if it doesnt im gonna make somethink like this but on the back
@kataleni33 Yeah I could do that. I am finishing up my semester at the University of Colorado right now. So a bit bussy but look for a new one in the next couple weeks.
I mounted it to the front wheel to give me a two wheel drive bike. It allows me to still peddal. Which is really helpful when going up steep hills. I am going to one day mount a chain and sprockets to the front wheel. Then I will put a derailer up there too. That way I will be able to shift too.
With the motor at the front, the motor doesn't have to work as hard to move the bike. On the back wheel, the motor has to push the back wheel and the rest of the bike. But on the front wheel, the motor just pulls the bike along. People that have front wheel drive recumbent bikes with tell you that it's more efficient with the front wheel being powered. It's less work for the rider.
Just an idea... Why don't you remove the pedals, leave the three sprockets of the mountain bike gears on the one side and add a sprocket to the other side, then mount the motor inside the frame, and run a chain down from the motor to the new sprocket, thus powering the bike through the gearing system, giving you a much higher top speed. That's what I'm thinking about doing if I build one, I just thought I'd share the idea...
I thought your idea to mount the engine inside the frame etc is a good idea. If by any chance you do build a one then perhaps you could make a tutorial on you tube. Thanks Rred2
