Hi there folks. Relatively new to this "electric" stuff, so, a wee question...
Nearer the end of this vid, there's a beautiful tone for a mellow blues kinda sound. Since I have a Gibson Studio and a Marshall MG 100HDFX, can anyone please tell me the settings on both these pieces of equipment to achieve that same tone? I reckon I've been through just about all I can think of... HELP! (lol)
Bought this amp today and OMG IT'S SOOO SICK. I play hardcore/easycore and this thing can get pretty loud not gonna lie.....definitely worth the money
thanks for posting that - i just bought V-30's 2 for a modded Fender - ignore the stupid negative comments by "Mr. Rockstar"......"knock-offs" what a Knucklehead !
dude needs to go to wgs's site, and see who uses these speakers......
I don't know if this demo was suppose to sound good or as terrrible is it really was. I have been looking at the Vetran 30 speakers for some time. I am tired of buying knock-off junk. This demo tells me to pay for the Celestions. I have tested both the Chinese made Celestions and the English made ones. YOU CANNOT TELL A DIFFERENCE. @sgilling I just payed 400 for my hdfx 100 half stack. Head and cab. I think you might have gotten ripped :S I'm not sure though, is it a hdfx100 for sure?
What's the story behind the "Red Tolex" head and cab? I know Marshall designates this finish as "Special" but I was just curious if there is any other difference between these and the black finished version? Why did they do a "special" in red tolex?
@DylansVideoWorld About 36.5 Inches, or just over three feet. It's a tiny bit smaller than some 4x12 half stacks. Lighter too, I have one and it's great for gigging because I carry my own junk. lol. I hate the JVM's weight.
I don't like those MG models, but this sounds WAY better with the WGS speakers!
I don't know how your house was built, but the stack should sound better against the wall or in a dead corner instead of in the middle of the room. We all gotta make good use of the space we have though.
How was this amp when it was all stock? when i played a MG series, it sounded like there was no balls to it, no bass at all when the bass knob was turned all the way up to 10
many poeple said the marshall Mg series sucks like hell,i cant agree with that ! the smaller MG´s like MG 15,30,50 are bad ! i played them all....BUT the MG halfstack MG 100 HDFX is a great Amp i got one a year ago ! great sound =) without tubes=) im thining of buying the original VIntage 30 or the Veteran 30 but i have to pay over 450.- (germany) for the speakers......alot
hey im looking at the same exact amp on ebay. same color n everything. do you recommend it at all. hows the tone n everything? does it crank up pretty loud? thnx.
At 3:01 he starts into something similar to Girl from Ipanema but with some wierd home made chord changes. I think it is supposed to be Girl from Ipanema.
Solid state amplifiers sound worse if they are cranked, better when they are set on a low volume. With tube amps you have to crank it to get the best sound out of it.
No dude it has a setting on it that lets you get more of a tube amp sound out of it. It's called "FDD" or Frequency Dependent Damping which gives you a thicker tube sound.
Buying the just the cab today then hopefully putting a Nitro head on it. (When I work up enough cash.) Any speaker reccomendations? I was told I should look into new speakers.
Ha! The Girl From Ipanema on a Marshall half stack - love it! Many put down these MG series solid state amps - I think they are a best kept secret! Very versatile, very usable. Just play!
orange tiny terror or marshall mg 100 hdfx ? i like the wolfmother sound and metallica sound example : wolfmother - white unicorn Metallica - welcome home or master of puppets
what is better for me ? sry i can i little bit englisch
love the colour of your amp man, i'm getting the same except in black, and awesome guitar skills! what song were you playing at the end with the jazzy sound?
Picked up my MG100HDFX and the 4 X 12 cab. best $350 I ever spent on an amp! Say what you want, but for the $ it sounds damn good. The guy with the extra cab already sold it so for now, it's just a half stack, but I'll keep looking.
Dcooper380 im a big fan haha been watching your vids for a while. Ive been playing for 15 years and have a Gibson Les paul faded , Jcm2000dsl50, Ampeg Reverebrocket r12r and but of course My Mg100hdfx half stack . its a back up to My tubes but really if you dial in the tones, its still a little thin. however its still a great backup amp as well as a practice amp! they are good collectors items, i have the white one haha nice playing buddy!
i've played with this amp loud and it sounds pretty good with effects at a somewhat decent volume but the louder you go, your tone gets worse and everything doesn't sound as good as when your at lower volumes. if i were you i would save my money and invest in a good quality tube amp. that's probably somewhere close to $700 -$800. but it doesn't have to be 100 watts. most places you play have a PA system which means you can put a mic up next to your amp so they can control the volume. GO TUBE!
The difference between tube amps and solid state amps is still there, but it's not NEARLY as different as it used to be. The technology has come along way in narrowing the tonal gaps in the two. The MG100 is a fantastic amp. And, with the use of a tube preamp like the Presonus tubepre, I dare you to tell the difference!
many people say it sounds like crap, i read a little bit about it on some guitar sites and the most of it said it was crap but is it that bad. It is very cheap. Anyone heard it, is it good?
I think the days of solid state being inferior to tubes are numbered. Just look at the new Marshall MG100HD, or the B52 LS100, or the Carvin SX300H. Tubes will continue to offer a slightly different feel and tonal palette, just like using one guitar instead of another guitar might, but I don't think solid state will be inferior anymore. Just different.
i am thinking of getting one of these exactly the same as his one for £400 do you think it is worth it? P.S the only reason i am thinking of not getting a dsl100 (a amp ive always wanted from childhood) is because my favorite guitar is also RED
would u recommend me buying this head for 400 bucks?
i live in mexico and its hard to get stuff around here and well i think the price is good, what do u say is this head worth it? ive heard some bad stuff about a fan but they allsay it takes about a min to stop , any comments
400 bucks sounds a little high. But if that is the best price you can find in your area then you should consider it. A lot of people don't like the MG Marshalls but I really love 'em. The fan does make a little noise for about a minute or so when you turn it on, but it's no big deal. Mine has done that for years and I've had no problems.
Whats the point of 2x12 and 4x 12's anyway? - just for more volume or is it for other reasons?
My 50 W amp is too loud and i wanna be able to turn up the volume for better tone - but it makes the windows rattle - so would it be worth losing my quadbox and going to a 2x12 or even a 1x12. ? Will that help a lot or is it not the right concept at all?
i considered tube combos around the price range, am im only a kid and cant be botherd with the hassel of a tube, and i really want a marshall half stack, if think the tone is awsome, the good thing about this amp is it sounds better than tubes at low volume which is perfect! thank marshall thank dcoop830
You can use a 4, 8, or 16 OHM cab with this amp. If you buy four 8 OHM Texas Heats you'll end up with an 8 OHM cab which will be perfect. By the way... I've tried Texas Heats before and I think they're GREAT! I'm sure you'll like 'em.
Its a good amp i would say. Guitars however i would go for fenders with maiden, the gibson range or the guitar in the vid for black sabbath and metallica and ESP guitars for COB man =) Hope it helped !
That guitar, especially w/ 57 classic pickups, is so versatile it can play any kind of music very well. Don't go for Fender for that kind of music. Most people will agree with that. However, the best way is to just head down to guitar center, pick out a few of your top choices, narrow down your choices by playing them unplugged and seeing which one has the best sound and fell, then plug em in and choose.
Yeah, that´s great playing :) cliffs of dover is hard stuff... myself i´m practising hard on Mr Crowley and Crazy Train the old originals with Randy Rhoads
dcooper830, which setup do you prefer? the mg head with your warehouse modded cab, or with the 1960 cab? Im looking either to upgrade my excisting mgcab or getting another cab:) Thank you; by the way, after reading your suggested settings ( OD/2 , bass 10, middle 2, treb 2 contour 0) I am now getting even better tone out of my head. I advice others to try the same setting, especially at loud volumes this setting really shines.
can somebady tell me how i will set up my mg100hdfx to sound like lets say metallica...or megadeth...can i do that...
prantja 4 months ago
@prantja I would highly suggest a distortion pedal, mg's arn't really known for metal. You can pull it off with a pedal though

would u recommend me buying this head for 400 bucks?
i live in mexico and its hard to get stuff around here and well i think the price is good, what do u say is this head worth it? ive heard some bad stuff about a fan but they allsay it takes about a min to stop , any comments
good playing btw :P
keep on rocking and thanks

Im Saving up for this amp, so cant wait to get it
i considered tube combos around the price range, am im only a kid and cant be botherd with the hassel of a tube, and i really want a marshall half stack, if think the tone is awsome, the good thing about this amp is it sounds better than tubes at low volume which is perfect! thank marshall thank dcoop830

i think you should stick with getting a tubed combo, like a fender. trust me, it may not be as pretty, but it sounds 10x better.

are these speakers kickass, or did i buy the wrong sepaker for my 66 bassman custom combo?
guns1rose 3 years ago
if you turn the volume up there will be not so much distortion like with a lower volume

im putting eminence texas heats in the cab. does this amp need 8 ohms?
Xplorer1147 3 years ago
You can use a 4, 8, or 16 OHM cab with this amp. If you buy four 8 OHM Texas Heats you'll end up with an 8 OHM cab which will be perfect. By the way... I've tried Texas Heats before and I think they're GREAT! I'm sure you'll like 'em.

Is this guitar good for iron maiden or black sabbath to children of bodom or metallica?
p4tr1ckn4v0 3 years ago
Its a good amp i would say. Guitars however i would go for fenders with maiden, the gibson range or the guitar in the vid for black sabbath and metallica and ESP guitars for COB man =) Hope it helped !
PhillHaggath 3 years ago
I got a schecter demon 6 with seymour blackouts would that get cob tone or distortion?
p4tr1ckn4v0 3 years ago
That guitar, especially w/ 57 classic pickups, is so versatile it can play any kind of music very well. Don't go for Fender for that kind of music. Most people will agree with that. However, the best way is to just head down to guitar center, pick out a few of your top choices, narrow down your choices by playing them unplugged and seeing which one has the best sound and fell, then plug em in and choose.

Warehouse is the name of the company that makes the speakers? I'll have to google 'em!
TheMadCoder 3 years ago
I traded my amp like this for a fender blues junior and the fender is way better
synodofdort 3 years ago
dcooper830, which setup do you prefer? the mg head with your warehouse modded cab, or with the 1960 cab? Im looking either to upgrade my excisting mgcab or getting another cab:) Thank you; by the way, after reading your suggested settings ( OD/2 , bass 10, middle 2, treb 2 contour 0) I am now getting even better tone out of my head. I advice others to try the same setting, especially at loud volumes this setting really shines.
