tune totally brings me back to sept, driving around seattle a lot, looking for a place to park just before the Manics show. Did nothing but listen to them for two months before and after that show....and the whole 200-mile drive from portland to their show.
Not a stupid question. They do have many songs about Richie, but I'm pretty sure this one is about the famous painter, Willem de Kooning and also named after one of his paintings.
I agree it is a beautiful song beuatiful lyrics. I cant adequatley describe my love for the manics, i have lovd their music and in some way they have shaped who I have become. JDB is a genuine genius
I wasn't keen on the studio version of this song, but like a number of other Manics songs (The Everlasting; Motown Junk; Tsunami) the live performance really shines. Absolutely beautiful.

Wow, I didn't know they'd actually played this live. I saw them in 2002, they didn't play it then, and I never heard of a live version of it.

All my best wishes are just lies
Are just lies
Sun breaks and cloudbursts
The hardest of all words
The conflict of sin all kept within
